Recall the Browns game? Tipped passes were a weak point all yr, in fact I think he led the nfl in tipped passes. No, it is about Young being a better Qb than Henne, warts and all, if he is then pay the money.
I can't see any team trading or putting in a waiver claim for him if he does get waived instead of out-right released. Not for the amount of money they'll be on the hook for. It wasn't just Jeff Fisher that wanted him gone in Tennessee, and Young's reputation has taken a major hit in league circles. Some team (even Miami) might have interest, but at a reduced cost and with a contract that would make it easier to part with him if he can't clean up his act.
Their GM, Mike Reinfeldt, confirmed at a press conference on Friday that he intends to trade or release Young. And the team took down a large picture of him that was hanging outside LP field.
So I'm home now and having had the time to mull this, I still stand next to me **** NO! Jeff Fisher is probably one of the best "player coaches" out there... who else comes to mind? Really. Nashville & the Tennessee market are also relatively small compared to others, especially Miami. So what have you? A guy who threatened to kill himself, a guy who was the last one in and first one out and a guy who literally ran out on his team--all with an easygoing coach and virtually no spotlight. You guys want to throw that kind of person into the 7th largest metro area in the country with the extreme uncertainty of this franchise? Random question to those who were nodding their head reading that last bit; are you the kind of person who likes fire? I want to win football games, not the top story on TMZ.
I really do not want to trade for a QB. Teams don't give away Franchise QB's. Unless there is a huge Problem. Look at Players we traded for, Ricky Williams and Brandon Marshall. Not exactly issue free. If you want a quality Franchise QB you gotta draft one. Kolb is the only possibility becuase he would be the starter if not for the Dog Murderer.
You mean the game where we had Bess, Moore, and Wallace at WR, and as usual, no running game? The game where we refused to cover the TE, where Carroll dropped his chance to "win" the game and the Browns caught their's? Yeah, that game was all Henne's fault. You've gone from Orton, to Palmer, now to Young, all of whom have huge salaries, none of whom are demonstrably better than Chad Henne. Bash Henne all you want, but he's a TON better at playing QB than you are at analyzing QB play or making personnel decisions. The Titans have nothing at QB outside of Young, and yet they are itching to get rid of him. Common sense should tell you that if Tennessee doesn't want their 27yr old, 2 time Pro Bowl QB, who's coming off of his best statistical season, then something must be terribly wrong. Anti-Henne Bias 1 Common Sense 0
You asked, it is what happened. I'd still happily take Orton, Palmer or Young, two straight yrs of more int's than Td's will do that for me. And you missed Thigpen. Your "anti Henne" bias is rather dismissive of the fact the boy collapsed down the stretch and probably should be either traded, or made the #2 Qb imho.
Orton and Palmer are clearly better than Henne in every facet of the game, not sure how anyone can dispute that with a straight face. And Young has the potential to run circles around all three, but you know how "potential" goes. All are worth the risk if we have no other options outside of Henne.
I like the way you can dumb down an entire football game or series of football games down into one sentence and place the blame for the ultimate team game's results on one player. It speaks volumes about your ability to understand the nuances of the game, IMHO.
I don't know about trading for him what with his salary owed. I wouldn't put a big investment in him, and I would much rather draft Gabbert or Newton than go after Young, but he is an upgrade from Henne no question imo, and if he hits the open market we should certainly at least try to obtain him. However, I won't be sad if he makes his way to Minny to take them out of the running for an early QB, though it opens the door for the Titans to now draft one.
No, just no. I have defended Vince Young on more than occasion. But his antics last season were inexcusable.
Enough to know I would take either in a heartbeat. And that speaks volumes about Henne. I'm sure that would be the opinion of the majority if not the entire league.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo please no!
pick him up as a free agent let him start all 16 then we can draft andrew luck with the number one pick next year
We shouldn't sign Vince Young, so we can draft him next time he enters the draft. But under no circumstance will I sign Vince Young.
Just don't see a reason to try and fill holes in a tube with defective patch. You're running out of material I see....
Because objectively, Vince Young is currently a far better Qb than Henne. That does not mean that maybe Henne can turn it around, atm though, it is no contest.
Steve McNair had heart, desire and a will to win no matter what physical pain he was in. I knew Steve McNair...Steve McNair was a friend of mine...Vince Young, you're no Steve McNair
Well, idk man, as Young was a knucklehead off of the field, but his blowups with Fisher were over being pulled from games, the last one for not being allowed back into out game against the Titans due to tearing some thumb ligaments. Young strikes as the type of guy who loves the game, but is not willing to do the off the field work to improve his performance.
So, why do you think that's going to change if Young comes here to work with an inferior coaching staff? I'm willing to give you that AT-THIS-POINT in time VY is a better QB than Henne, but it's by a MUCH smaller margin that you are espousing. You switch these 2 QBs this year and I can easily see VY throwing more INTs than TDs with our swiss cheese Oline and lack of RBs.
I voted for "no, to expensive" but the answer is really, "no, he still cant read defenses, dont want him for free without trading for him, and I cant stand running QB's that are not accurate". And yes that is all true.
but only 13-14 against teams finishing a season .500 or better. Pick your stats just right and you can make any player look great.
if there is no draft pick involved & the price is very reasonable, it should be a consideration I would prefer Matt Leinart who has an upside & would not cost us a pick or outrageous salary. looks like we could find the RB & Offensive Line we need in this draft. we're not going to the SuperBowl in 2011 without Divine Intervention. I say fix what can be fixed. don't see an obvious answer @ QB in 2011 & we're stuck with Sparano for next season. lets make the best of it w/o screwing things up even more looking for what is not there
Usually you get what you pay for. Think about it, if the guy is available for a 5th rounder......what does that say? He's not an elite talent at the Qb position, he has all kinds of accuracy, delivery, leadership, poise, awareness problems, etc, etc, etc. And this is after what 5 years in the league? Lets not forget he was a step away from a mental institution in Tennessee as well, not just a meltdown but a full blown mental breakdown that almost sent the guy to a rubber room. Sorry but he's not worth even worrying about because no one will ever win with him, I'd rather take a step back and spend high draft picks on a legit Qb talent than win 7 games with a proven loser/quitter like Young every year just to be in the same position 3 years from now when we figure out that Young was exactly what everyone thought he was.

Way I see it, as long as we have Henne why not take the shot on Young?
How in the hell was our O-line "Swiss Cheese" when most agree Chad Henne had ALL DAY to throw the ball all season long???
Hell even if we pretend it is a swiss cheese line, wouldn't the mobile Vince make way more sense than Chad "the Statue" Henne? I don't know, I get he has personal issues, I get that he probably is never going to be elite. I don't want to pay him his current salary, and I would not pick him up with the goal of being "the future." But for a year or two over Henne? Hell yes, leagues better in comparison. If we aren't impressed with this years draftees, or we don't feel we will be in position to take a premium talent, then Young makes more sense than Henne and imo it's not really that close.
Well, the way I see it is we can trade for him "if" he is willing to rework his contract, if he plays well this yr, if at all, we can then give him the Vick Franchise tag treatment, or tender him, that way we maximize upside save the #15 overall and have legitimate options at Qb other than Chad Henne and "some dude".
