Does it strike anyone else as odd that in the United States, we socialize the debt of sports and privatize the profits?
This just doesn't look good for us... I wish we could get the money privately... Mike Dee must be pullin his hair out trying to figure out how hes gonna transform the neutral site stadium his team plays in.. I cant think of a good analogy, but putting 250 million into ''no life stadium'' is like putting a diamond necklace on snookie.
Yeah, strange that we will pay billions for sports stadiums, but refuse to provide decent & affordable health care for those that can least afford to pay for it. Its a country with screwed up priorities......
Its a game for the Billionaires......With Jerry Jones leading the way , who can build the most fancy stadium? They should Tell Mr Ross that you can have the money only AFTER you win a Superbowl.
I think that's irrelevant. This is about the team making more money. They want to add seats and move some closer, which will help with the noise, sure, but the real purpose is to sell them for more money. Same thing with the roof. It will be easier, in theory, to sell the place out if people don't have to worry about being baked in the sun or getting soaked by a downpour.
After the *****ing and moaning about the cold weather in Dallas this week from just about everyone, Ross should tell the NFL to go F themselves.
Iam fine with them making money, as long as part of these improvements came because Mike Dee recognizes ''no life stadium'' is hurting the performance of his athletes.
Agree 100%. Also, I am a season ticket holder since the OB and I don't care about the roof. If the team wants a roof so badly they should build it with their own money.
I heard on the radio today that if the Dolphins spring for the money themselves, the revenue they'll make from hosting one Super Bowl will pay for itself and then some. I think they're doing their due diligence here though, because the hotels and other businesses do benefit from an SB.
76 | 63° F Partly Cloudy That's the forecast for Sunday and pretty much all week....... regardless of how fancy a stadium is, let ANY city try and top that or the leisure activities available at this time of year. We offer a hell of a lot more than just the 3 hours spent at the game. For them to take the SB away from Miami is just stupid on their part
This. Also...what does a stadium in a ghetto nearly 30 miles away have to do with Miami Beach? Broward County should be getting hit up for money, not Miami, and certainly not Miami Beach. Broward...you know, the county within walking distance of the stadium. Build a stadium IN MIAMI. Let Ft. Lauderdale/Broward/Palm Beach get their own damn team if they have to have one "nearby." The area was awarded a pro franchise in 1965, when Miami was the only thing happening south of Atlanta. MIAMI got the team because of MIAMI. Maybe the ****ing Jaguars will relocate to Lockhart stadium.
I think the stadium is on the outskirts of Broward, just outside Miami. And this is because Wayne hated the city of Miami and wanted to stick it to them by putting it in Miami Gardens. I've said this before, but it's really a perfect spot for the stadium. Not that many people actually live in Miami, so driving all the way down there would be a killer. Ever been to a Heat game at the AAA? Good God. I'm glad Wayne put the stadium where he did.
Hopefully you're not up on the situation because if your on the Marlins side, your one of a few. They did not show them all of their books and lied about nearly everything to get the stadium deal done.
No....they say that's what it is for, but the real target is getting some of the acts that visit the Panthers stadium in Sawgrass and AAA in downtown Miami. They are losing 81 dates with the Marlins leaving, so they need to make up that revenue somewhere.
Are people so young they don't even remember or have not heard of Joe Robbie ? HE built the stadium in 1987 after failing to get the City of Miami to rebuild the Orange Bowl. The stadium opened in 1987 and Wayne didn't even buy a piece of the team until 1990. He then became sole owner of the team & stadium in 1992 or 1993.
Because that'll clearly be a winning decision for the fans and the team, as the Marlins will shortly demonstrate.
I am up on ALL the details, including a very scrutinized look at those finances that was done on Larry's www.marlinsbaseball.com with people that are often, if not all the time critical of the Marlins. Even those people, when shown the books, and a look at BOTH SIDES OF THE LEDGER, came to the conclusion that the Marlins didn't bamboozle the City or County, hence why NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY THEM, since that information came out months ago. No lawsuits or anything by the city or county, no stoppages because of non-payment on their part or anything. Much of the public are sheep, that believe anything that the Herald (who are very anti-Marlins) says or much of the news media in south Fla (who again are mostly NY or Chicago people who hate the Marlins for their own reasons - I guess its the ring they won on Yankees & Cubs backs in 2003 huh ?) and who never showed a full & in-depth review of the Marlins finances on BOTH SIDES OF THE LEDGER ! If you didn't know, the Marlins ownership has actually LOST money since they have owned the Marlins. They also assumed a $ 61 million debt incurred by the previous ownership. Did you know these facts ?
Those are not facts Jake! I'm a Marlins fan but Loria and company are crooks. As is MLB as a whole. From the way Loria got the Marlins to the way only one owner would have ever been accepted in Boston. It just so happened to be the then Marlins owner. Even though they had a bid that was nearly 200,000 dollars more... I'm just glad they're leaving Joe Robbie Stadium. Why do you think MLB ordered the Marlins to increase payroll? Because they were putting almost 34 million dollars a year from revenue sharing into their pockets. Then crying that they lost money. Not to mention another 45 to 60 million a season that was rumored from other deals such as TV.
God you are so uneducated. On gamedays the profits are split this way--- Ticket Sales-Marlins Operating expenses (employees, lights)- Marlins Concessions- Stephen Ross Parking Fee- Stephen Ross Merchandise Sales- Stephen Ross Hot Dogs/Beer venders- Stephen Ross Luxory Box Sales-Stephen Ross Off Duty police security- Marlins There is no profit in that stadium for the marlins. Only TV Revenue, Revenue Sharing and Ticket Sales. They have to fund their part of the new stadium, as well as the player payroll, draft bonuses, spring training site, employees (FO), and Amatuer Development in the Carribbean. Not to mention scouts and their AAA, AA, and A affiliates. Where is the money going to come from if it doesnt come from revenue sharing and marketing? Wayne Screwed the Marlins when he signed the contract with himself giving way to that horrible lease then sold to john henry who thought he could get a stgadium. It took 10 years, and we finally got something to be proud of. No sports team should have to move a home series because of a U2 Concert, but because stephen ross owns the stadium and the marlins are just renters, he told them to GTFO. THATS the truth. Look it up.
Yes, plus---as a fellow southridge alum I know we never learned anything . Uneducated was a poor word, I guess ignorant was it---but Ms. Andrews never taught me that word for some reason. I guess I'd throw it around or something.
LOL, well, I hope Mrs Andrews was a reading teacher because I clearly said nothing about them making any type of money from the stadium. I said they made a ton of money from revenue sharing which is paid to them by the other owners. That's a fact and thats why they were forced by major league baseball to spend more on their payroll. Plus they have a decent TV deal. What year did you go to the Ridge?
