Well that seems odd, the green light to spend on FA's but not on a Qb?

    So true!

There was no mention anywhere in this piece that they weren't given the green light to spend on a QB either. Nothing like stirring the pot for another thread about the QB.

even though it's been said, I'm sure they have the green light to spend the money on a good QB, but that rules out Vince Young

    "Green light to spend"

    And

"Green light to throw money in the trash"
    are two different things.

Interesting, which QB would you spend money on? The only one worth while is Hasselbeck at this point.

I believe it's going to be a tough sell to the FA's. We have a lame duck coach and his staff seem to be a joke. I think players who are chasing money may land here, but only if a real contender is too far behind in cash.

Like the guy but (there is always a but) I would be hesitant to spend big money on a guy that has his injury history. Could be grove all over again.

I honestly think this means guys like DeAngelo Williams, Michael Bush, Logan Mankins, maybe even a vet like Hasselbeck if he shakes loose. Obviously not all of them, but some.
The defense is playoff worthy, we just need to have the personnel to execute the ground game and probably a more cagey vet at QB.

nobody wants to throw in with a loser, but never underestimate greed
even with a lame duck coach, the team is not a total waste
a good draft & free agency could make Miami very attractive
to both most potential players & DolFans alike in 2011
if everything went our way & Brian Daboll turned out to be a Nolan

well, hope is the very last thing to die

    Matt Hasselbeck, QB Seattle
    Logan Mankins, OL NE
    DeAngelo Williams, RB Carolina
would brighten things up around here fast & open the draft completely

Padre, you're a valued member of the forums and you have a great knowledge. And I and many others respect you for that. And don't take this the wrong way, but I'm losing a lot of respect for you this off-season. You've been one of the worst to turn everything into a Henne/Ross/Sparano/Ireland whomever bashing thread. And now, posting stuff like this, it's just grasping at straws. You're intentionally trying to twist the words of the article into something it didn't say to try to prove a point. You're better than that.

I argue with Pads everyday..... but you're out of line. Regardless of what you may suspect, he's just trying to stir up debate, which he does. And he does it more than anyone and it doesn't cost you a dime.

Now you on the other hand rarely post about football..... you prance around like you're some kind of team spirit police and a quasi mod...... berating posters and rarely talking about football. For all your self righteous BS, all you really do is go after posters and ***** about the quality of this forum and it's members...... it's gone beyond annoying. Maybe you should worry more about improving the quality of your own posts first. Because you are boring the **** out of us with your constant *****ing...

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that posts like "Chad Henne sucks cause I said so." And "Tony Sparano sucks cause he's 25-23 in 3 years" were what we considered talking football now. I thought we were better than that. And I damn sure though we were better than posting articles and trying to reword it to prove a point that the article didn't even begin to touch on. You want to say I don't talk football? There are at least 5 topics on the front page that I created about football. I'm trying to give people something to talk about that's not about how x player/person sucks or about how this franchise is doomed. But I guess that's not what grabs people attention around here. What you call team spirit police and quasi mod I call trying to clean up the garbage of the forums. Do you really want to spend the next 8 months reading this low quality bull****? All these he said/she said back and forths between the so-called apologists and so-called realists. I know that the basis of any good message board is debate, but this borders on immaturity. Even in my post to Padre I wasn't berating him, I respect the guy and he's better than this thread, or at least the mess he tried to stir up in it and that's all that I was pointing out. Your the one who decided to make a personal attack on me. And that's fine because I deserve it to a certain extent and I can take it. But maybe you're right, maybe I should leave this place because it's quickly deteriorating into just another finhell. Can you sit there and realistically tell me that you're okay with that?

Not really Bro, the issue with VY has been that 12 million he is due in 2011, at least among fans who don't want him in Miami.

As for Henne, I gave him the last 5 games of 2010 to show me something, aside from playing Caretaker Qb in the jets win as Brandon Fields went crazy, he only looked good in the Lions game, and even then.

And I'm a fan and booster of Sparano and Ross and Ireland, with Henne unless there are drastic changes in him and the offense I think Sparano and Irish are fooling themselves as I've never, not once, seen a Qb discover their guts 3yrs into being a starting Qb.

Maybe he is the exception to the rule, I hope he is, but still I really do believe we have to bring in a Qb who is better than Henne as after two yrs and two late season collapses I no longer really trust him to be the Starting Qb for the Miami Dolphins.

If you are basing your evaluation on the last 5 games of the season I think you need to expand your sample size. People seem to forget that Marshall, Henne and Long were all hurt, Carey, Berger and Hartline were out, Ricky had given up and Ronnie was playing to not get hurt. Not to mention the fact that our offense was completely stagnant. On more than one occasion we heard that opposing defenses were able to call out our plays just by seeing how we lined up. It would be damn near impossible to succeed in that situation for any QB.

I don't disagree that we need to address the QB situation, but I do disagree that Chad Henne is as bad as he is portrayed on this forum. You say you've never seen a QB discover their guts in their 3rd year as a starter, I say he discovered his guts last year and was neutered this year. QBs don't magically forget how to play from one year to the other either. I get it that people are upset. We've seen head coach and QB after head coach and QB fail in Miami. But we've also seen our fair share of players flounder in our system and go on to have great careers elsewhere. The problem lies in a failure to identify the strengths of our own players and build around it. And that's not just been a Sparano problem. You can't fit a square peg into a round hole and you can't turn Chad Henne into Chad Pennington.

    Oh really?

You told him you were "losing respect" for him...... like that actually matters.... and it's not your job to clean up the forum and...... you're annoying. He was only trying to add content when there isn't much to talk about. He's too nice of a guy to say anything but I'm not..... so I'm telling you that you're out of line. If you don't like a post or thread don't bother with it because you don't speak for all of us. No one has appointed you ambassador that I know of.... See, to me that is the test for a Qb, time and using what they have to work with, Henne wasn't making Wallace or Moore any better, he needs the frontline guys to even be an adequate Qb, once they were off of the table Henne was a fish out of water right when the team needed him the most.

That said, I stick to my position that Henne in a 3 wr offense and a no huddle scheme can be an effective Qb, that is why I have not completely tossed him overboard, however this is a show me business if they do install that style of offense and he flops, to me that is the final nail in his career box in Miami.

Eh, all we can do is wait and see, I am on board with acquiring a proven, young veteran Qb no matter the cost to replace Henne, if that does not happen then Henne will have one more yr to show he is a starting caliber NFL Qb.

When Vinny Testaverde was in Tampa Bay, and yr after yr they would use high picks on offensive players, a phrase developed:

"He is running out of excuses"

To me that is Chad Henne in a sentence.

I completely agree with you on all points, but I just have to ask, how many QBs out there really make everyone around them better? Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Phillip Rivers, and Aaron Rodgers are the only ones I would name. That's 5 QBs out of 32 in the league. Even guys like Matt Ryan, Ben Roethlisberger, and Mike Vick don't fit that description. It's rare to find a great talent at QB in the NFL. And I guess what really gets on my nerves is the naivety of some people who think that you can just go out and pick up an all-world QB off the streets. Do we need one? Yes. But so does 31 other teams. Buffalo is still trying to replace Jim Kelly. Denver is still trying to replace Elway. San Fran is still trying to replace Montana/Young. It's my personal opinion that you have to work with what you have. Chad Henne is an above average QB who has not been used correctly in his 2 years as a starter. I think that an offense built to suit the strengths of our personnel coupled with a strong ground game and sound defense will get us to the playoffs. I know for a fact though that the constant shuffling of coaches and quarterbacks will keep us out of the playoffs.

I disagree that Ryan and Roethlisburger don't make people better.

And oddly enough, the QBs you listed are the ones that are in the playoffs every year winning super bowls. Our mission is to find that QB, not pretend Henne can lead us to the promised land like we have pretended the last 50 QBs since Marino as well. It's many peoples personal opinion that we need to find a goddam QB, bottom line, or we will continue to suck for years to come.

Ryan most certainly doesn't make everyone around him better. He profits from having Michael Turner, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez, and Michael Jenkins, not to mention a solid stable O-Line. I would take everyone of their offensive players over any offensive player we have in Miami. Roethlisberger is the same way, he's propped up by a great offensive line, solid running game and spectacular defense. The fact that the Steelers were 3-1 without Roethlisberger at the start of the season should tell you something about that team. Ben is great at extending the play and making plays that other QBs cant, but he's not a guy who makes everyone around him better.

And you're absolutely right that the QBs I named are the ones in the playoffs every year. That was sort of the point I was making. I've said twice on this page of this thread alone that we need to address the QB situation, that makes three times. But at the end of the day it's better to create a plan to win with what you have than to sit here and lament what you don't have and give up because of it, don't you agree?
