What's up everyone, I was just on si.com and came across a small piece talking about the return of Plaxico. Drew Rosenhaus says he is working out and running 5 days a week and is in great shape. Then again, he is in prison and there is really nothing else for him to do so I am not surprised by Drew's comments.

Considering Drew's connections to the Phins and the fact that we could use a tall, speedy receiver with good hands (provided he still has "it"), would you like to see him in aqua and orange next season? I for one would certainly take a look at him and find out if he could still play at a high level. Perhaps a little prison time has humbled him as well.

    Here is the link:

I'm a proponent of bringing everyone in for a look and sorting them out here, as opposed to passing ignorant, preemptive judgments.

    So yeah, bring him in.

If he can show us that he's in shape and if he displays better character, then sure. Sign him for a year or two.

If he doesn't check out, then I'm sure he'll find a job elsewhere.

If he's better then the last receiver on our depth chart, sign him up. If he would like to come here.

A humbled Plaxico Burress...hmmm...he wont cost any draft picks, and should be cheap as hell...I would bring him in for a look, and see how bad he wants to be a miami dolphin.

Well, I have -0- problem with Plaxico Burress and think he should never have been locked up for injuring himself, that said I fully expect him to land on the NY Jets to replace Braylon Edwards but we should sniff around a bit, the problem is his release date and the lockout are ill timed, he will not be freed until after the rosters are frozen into place.

Don't have much of an issue with Plax, except that we have a better 'Plax' on the roster in Marshal...

I'm all about giving everyone a second chance.

I was willing to give Ricky Williams a second chance
I was willing to give Michael Vick a second chance
I'd be willing to give Plaxico Burress a second chance

All I would say though would be give him a one year contract...a modest salary with the incentive for a contract extension with MASSIVE bonus/pay provided he performs to expectations of the coaching staff and strict adherence to conduct standards.

Padre, I know how you feel about Plaxico, but c'mon man...a multi-millionaire...carrying a loaded weapon in his sweatpants...not knowing how to use it...showing off...claiming it was for personal protection?

C'mon man. if it were Beyonce carrying a loaded Glock in her thong...claming it was for personal protection, you'd be asking the same thing I did with Plaxico...where in the hell was her bodyguard(s)?

Plaxico was rightfully locked up...if for no other reason than being stupid in a no stupid zone.

What bothers me about Burress receiving 2 yrs and some change is that was based on what MIGHT have happened, not what DID happen, no one should be punished more harshly based on something that never happened.

The typical firearms possession case in NYC would land the violator a 1 yr sentence with maybe 8 months served, when Bloomberg singled him out to me it circumvented any chance he had to be treated just like anyone else.

I personally don't think he SHOULD have been treated like anyone else. By proxy of who he is, he's a role model and to be illegally carrying a firearm in a public venue...and discharging said firearm...even if the dumbass shot only himself, yea you DO need to send a message...

THIS is what happens if you do something this stupid.

I'm just thankful his name...his celebrity...the fact he was the hero in the Super Bowl against the Patriots didn't get him off.

Plax was railroaded and it's as simple as that. The DA even said as much. I'm not saying he should not have had to pay a fine, maybe do some firearm awareness public service announcements, etc etc...but 2 years? Rapists and murderers sometimes get less time. I feel bad for the guy. He was screwed by a DA trying to make a name for himself.

He is going to have to come back from a long long layoff , that isn't a given.

There are concerns but certainly not opposed to giving him the opportunity.

He may want a better situation , wr wise for the team he signs with , ideally he isn't the "type" of wr that would help the mix the best. He certainly produced even when he could barely practise , and of course he is no where near football shape and the 2 years could have drained a lot from him physically.

Bottom line , is I would pursue him provided we feel he is approaching this the correct way , and I don't see that he won't.

I think he'll be a great WR again, just think we'd be better of getting a younger and faster WR. We need a true deep threat, someone who can break down secondary's

    Gotcha.

Well, he did break the law, but it was a victimless crime. He had no intentions of hurting anyone. I don't remember ever hearing anything about him getting in trouble before this either. One can argue that it's a bad idea to hang out in places where you think you need a pistol, but hey, if everyone served 2 years for making bad decisions the streets would be empty. Not only that, more and more places, especially if you're known to have money, are getting dangerous. You can's be a hermit. AND...he had a CWP permit for Flrorida, so it's not like he's just running around carrying weapons. I have my CWP too. If the pistol I carried discharged and I shot myself I wouldn't serve one hour, much less 2 years.

I, for one, hope he comes out and plays lights out for 3-4 or more years. His treatment was borderline criminal.

This. No need for Burress, since Marshall is the same type of receiver, only better.

But if he signs, I won’t complain.

I understand the fact that some think we have a similar player in Marshall who is better, but I still think he should be better than Wallace and Moore and if proves he actually is in a workout with the team then I say sign him. Imagine Marshall and Plaxico on the other side in the redzone. That should help us eliminate a couple 3-point fist pumps throughout the year. Not to mention, eliminating the fade route to Hartline which I never really understood.

if the price is right there is no reason not to give the guy a shot
might provide an inspiration beyond his obvious & significant talent
on several levels to a team in need of redemption. he's a winner

I know he'd be a heck of a lot more expensive but I'd much rather go after Santonio Holmes. He is the speed in need

Ozzy, I wouldn't mind going after both if they were to be available. We know that the Jets probably won't be able to sign both Edwards and Holmes, but we just don't know how that situation is going to play out at this time. If the opportunity were to present itself, I would sign Plaxico on the cheap for a year or two if he is capable at competing at this level still and I would go after Holmes as my speed guy.

Ross has given Ireland the green light to spend money in FA in order to improve the team so I wouldn't imagine signing these two guys would be unfathomable. The question is will FA come before or after the draft. If it comes after the draft then I don't see it happening because I believe they will try to add playmakers to the offense as soon as possible.

interesting idea. with a green light you go after both, if available & depending on the draft
    having said that
the WR Corp is strong & there are many holes in the offense to fill

They still have to stay within a cap whenever they reach a CBA agreement but going after both Holmes and Burress does not make a ton of sense with Marshall on the roster, and the running game is much more dire need of fixing.

Well, for what it's worth the speculation up here in Jet land is that if they could only keep one receiver, it would be Holmes. Tannenbaum really wants to sign both Holmes and Edwards, and he is one of the most creative cap managers in the business, so I wouldn't put it past him.

Well the way I see it, NYC's total ban on firearms ownership is Unconstitutional.

Add in, his only victim was himself, this wasn't Jayson Williams, drunk, accidentally killing his limo driver, this was a guy whose only victim was himself, who was mistreated for political gain and spectacle by the NYC penal system.

Things like any other inmate would have been eligible for work release last yr, but because he was P Burress..no work release for him.

His release from NYC and the lockout come at a bad time for him, he can make the rounds and work out, but he cannot be signed by anyone.

Williams is a good example, he plead guilty to killing someone and was sentenced to 5 yrs in prison, but was parole eligible in 18 months, or less time than Buress will have served.

    Ozzy,
Well I seems like too many stars would have to line up in order for us to add both Plax and Holmes to the roster. However, if it were to happen we could still add Ingram and possible Derrick Locke in the draft. We would then be looking at a competition between Ingram, Hillard, Sheets, and Locke to fill three RB positions on the roster.

All we would have left to worry about would be TE and interior OL with the rest of the draft.

Yeah, it's a shame that signing anyone will take place after the draft. Otherwise they could see the picture unfolding in front of them instead of behind....

He was carrying a firearm in a nightclub where booze is the primary
money maker. It's against the law and a bad idea. Thank GOD he just
    shot himself.

Carrying in an establishment that obtains 51% or more of it's income in TX
is a crime, even for a CCW Permit holder. I'm about as close to a RTKaBA
