Someone familiar with Plaxico Burress’ thinking believes he prefers to avoid New York, to play in a warmer climate, and that his preference is to live near his offseason home in Miami. The person also says Burress knows he’d be better off far from the clutches of the New York media that remember every sordid detail of his Giants career. His past, were he to play elsewhere, is a short story. In New York, it would become a season-long theme. — NY Daily News http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...after_getting_out_of_prison_makes_no_sen.html
maybe you're right, but if the price is right it wouldn't hurt to have him on board: Plaxico Burress Free agent/Wide receiver Personal information Date of birth: August 12, 1977 (1977-08-12) (age 33) Place of birth: Norfolk, Virginia Height: 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) Weight: 232 lb (105 kg) Career information College: Michigan State NFL Draft: 2000 / Round: 1 / Pick: 8 Debuted in 2000 for the Pittsburgh Steelers Career history * Pittsburgh Steelers (2000–2004) * New York Giants (2005–2008) Roster status: Active Career highlights and awards * 2× All-Big Ten (1998–1999) * Super Bowl champion (XLII) * Capital One Bowl MVP * Citrus Bowl MVP Career NFL statistics as of Week 17, 2008 Receptions 505 Receiving yards 7,845 Receiving TDs 55 Stats at NFL.com the guy is a winner, he knows how to win on the football field & he's already a hero in Miami. certainly wouldn't hurt to have a look.
Who's progress? Brian Hartline? Vick was supposed to be a progression stopper to. Cause they had that young kid Colb who was going to be a star. EDIT: Then again, he's 34. If being in prison saved his body some years though, like being suspended did with Ricky, I say bring him in.
I think we've seen just about as much from him as we're going to. 700-800 yard receiver in a good year. James Jones level receiver. Maybe have a few great years like Berrian. But nothing special.
fair enough..I could go either way...The reason why iam somewhat interested is because last year I thought there was a chance we would go after him considering the coughlin connection to parcells, and the need, this was before The Marshall trade...Also I was a huge fan of his when he was coming out, thought he wasted years of his talent getting caught up with outside things and just plain out of control ego.. Iam really not about adding Vets to take the places of young vets..but I cannot help but be intrigued by the thought of Bob Sanders and Plax as additions...especially Sanders...theres a gamble I would take...
I think its more of a question do you want Burress over Moore or Wallace, I doubt Hartline will go anywhere. I have no issues what-so-ever with bringing him onto the team.
Moore and Wallace are still young and showed allot of green on the field last year. Can you imagine moving Burress to #2 and putting Bess into the slot ? Then you can bring in Hartline time to time to relieve. The only issue who will throw them the ball ?
That is all we will ever see out of him as long as Chad Henne is our QB. He should be a Pro Bowl alternate if he gets 800 yards in a Henne-run offense.
I like Hartline, Bess, and Marshall as much as anyone but if youre telling me I can add a legit redzone threat who runs the fade and hard slant as well as anyone then tell me where I sign. Those are the two primary redzone routes you see run by receivers and Burress beats his man continuously on them. He will only make them better just as he did for Steve Smith of the Giants. His teammates liked him in NY, he just did a stupid thing and the only one he actually harmed was himself.
Not to derail the thread, but it matters little at this point if we don't have the right man pulling the trigger. Does not good if the ball isn't being delivered accurately and on time (or at all). If Plax weren't 34 and missing two seasons, I'd be all over it. He's huge yet has always been able to get down the field. He didn't practice at all during that 2007 season due injuries.....and dominated. I think our receiver situation is actually pretty good. We could use the added dimension of speed there (all of the skill positions for that matter), but we're quite solid IMO.
He was given no slack for a stupid mistake. He has the experience to be good if he still has the speed. Can he still run at full pace for four quarters after shooting his legs and being in prison for 2 years?
Can you confidently say we don't have the right man to pull the trigger? And if we don't, that we won't get them?
Maybe so, but he was also made example of by a regime of politicians sick of athletes being seen above everyone else. That makes his actions no less wrong but its why he ended up in jail where others before him did not
dont lie Sick, you know you want the Jarmarcus Russell to Plaxico Burress connection to come to south beach..
Oh yeah! Id be estatic! We'd be on our way to the superbowl for sure. FTR, i wouldnt mind Plax.....but jamarcus?! Thats ridiculous. So tired of signing other teams garbage, especially teams that are WORSE than us.
How exactly do we know that for a fact? Because Michael Vick came back? Nothing personal against Plaxico, but I have my doubts on a 34 year old receiver who has been in jail for the past couple of years, and I don't care how in shape he's supposed to be. I'd rather take a chance on James Jones and his questionable hands. At least his elevator is seemingly going in the right direction.
.......and I'm not laughing with you. lol. So what you're saying is he should be getting 1000+ yards in any other offense....... that he's a Reggie Wayne type receiver and Henne is holding him back? Please.
Apparently our front office feels the same way. As indicated by the lack of a player named Michael Vick on our roster.
