http://www.kffl.com/gnews.php?id=695254-dolphins-not-expected-to-re-sign-richie-incognito http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3291/player?r=1 If this is true I would be very disappointed. Incognito is a multi-talented OL player that has matured nicely from his fighting / penalty days and could do nothing but help us. In fact this report is so nuts that if it didn't come from Adam Caplan at Fox Sports I wouldn't believe it. But hey, there hasn't been a damn thing this team has done so far with the yearly rebuilding of the offensive line that has made any sense to date - why start now? If they let this guy go I would stand in awe of how stupid Sporano (an offensive line guru) really is. Another year, another offensive line . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Lets hope that this report is just bull s____.
Saw that report last night and did not think it was to early to make predictions one way or another Cap's thinking was "the Oline struggled so they won't try to sign him" which may or may not be true in Rotten..err...Nice Richie Incognito's case. What I really do not want is retaining Joe Berger at Center, that would be a colossal mistake.
I just made the Gholston thread, so I don't want to make another "let's sign...!" so I'll just put it here. http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4678319/position-series-guardcenter He'd certainly be worth a look.
Absolutely! With troubles at center and Vernon Carey getting old and slow why would we consider ridding ourselves of a very talented guy like this one? This makes zero sense to me.
BS, they just reported a few weeks ago there were ongoing negotiations with him and Soliai. Makes no sense to give up a guy that was ranked 17th among guards in the NFL and keep an underperfroming center. a RG that is questionable, a RT that is limping and Garner who knows what the foot will do ? No, its a slow time and no movement from anywhere means a lot of poo being thrown on the wall by the press and see what sticks. Another thought is right now many teams are offering squat to the players to re-sign and both the playes and the agents are not taking the bait. I have heard nothing from no where or any other team that has signed any of its players outside of a punter and some so so guys. Like I said, its slooooooooow news. Even the NFL Channel bloows. I am sick of SOUND FX and WHO WAS THE BEST LH QB and blah blah blah. Not saying the parties will agree on terms but tell ya what, we let Incognito walk, he will be on a roster as soon as FA starts somewhere and will start.
Could Davis' issues be due to him being 33 (in 2011) and weighing 370+ pounds? Typically players need to get a little lighter as they age. I think it'd be wise for us to keep Incognito around at center.
Bingo !!!!!!!!!!! add to that, Leonard Davis is probably looking for silly type money to stay if he is a FA, not sure but he is not worth a bundle of dough. AZ Cardinals found out why the Jets cut Faneca real fast this past season.
I think we'll see both Soliai and Incognito wearing our uniforms next year regardless of what Fox says. That being said I think Fox news has slid into the rubbish pile with reports like this.
I don't understand this at all. It's pretty obvious what happened with Jake Grove and Justin Smiley and why the line needed to be revamped. Incognito was a pretty solid fill-in player, but that's about it. He was a good stone to turn over and see if they could turn into something better, but he frankly wasn't all that good. Having a bad interior of the line doesn't mean you need to hold on to the least mediocre performing player you have there with a death grip.
Berger played very well there in 2009. If they have a pretty good idea why it is he didn't continue to play that was in '10 and how they can fix it, they most certainly can retain him. I'm kind of curious what the "highlight" clips they are showing of some of these players on the network broadcast of home games that we've got this idea that Joe Berger was horrendous and Richie Incognito was an adequate center.
The sooner a mistake is corrected the quicker it ceases being a mistake. When Richie I played Center at the end of the yr the running game really improved, after a season of watching R+R getting stuffed at the LOS that was a delightful diversion...
OL re-vamp? Outside of a revolving door of talent what did the new OL do for us over the old OL? They wouldn't know talent if they saw it and Richie is a solid talent. If they want to re-vamp something they should address the QB and RB situation and stop the endless fiddling where it doesn't belong.
Any reports like this at this time of year need to be taken with a grain of salt, what with the misdirection games Ireland likes to play, and especially if FA comes after the draft this year. Richie didn't shine at guard, but looked pretty good at center in limited action. He does need a lot of work at the shotgun snap. But he's got the right physical makeup for a center and should really be given the chance to win that job.
He played Center in a single game. The old OL cannot line up and play anymore. I don't know how this can be more clear- They had to get rid of Justin Smiley and Jake Grove because they were physically breaking down. The injuries they suffered in the 2009 season ended Jake Grove's career, and will likely end Justin Smiley's as well. When we traded Smiley to the Jaguars he reportedly couldn't raise his arm above his shoulder, and his lack of strength makes him a liability. The Jaguars benched him fairly early last season for the guy he was supposed to replace. They didn't cut Jake Grove and Justin Smiley because they didn't perform well when they were healthy. It wasn't perfectionism, or churning the roster, or anything like that. Keeping those two players would have meant a worse offensive line than we had. A stellar recipe for failure. They didn't do well with this round of linemen, but avoiding it would simply be negligence.
Yeah, I hear Will Allen is a goner too... http://www.kffl.com/gnews.php?id=692769-dolphins-expected-to-release-will-allen
Take it for what it's worth. He doesn't even report that this information came from sources inside the organization. It just says he's not expected to be re-signed by the team because he didn't play at a high level. That could very well just be his own conclusion, especially since it has been reported in the past that they have talked with Incognito's agent about re-signing him.
Its combine week. Is it not unusual something like this surfaces right before it ? As I said, during combine week every GM and every player agent is in attendance. While it is not to go on ( wink wink ). Outside of looking at the players at the combine, the main ingredient going on in restaurants and lounges is seeing what team is interested in you client and what they are offering for his services. There would not be a better time for any GM or team that is negotiating with a player and cannot agree on a price to let out certain information TO BE RELIABLE that they were not going to sign said player. The LEAST it would do is make the agent work harder in other teams that were interested in said player. Omar Kelly is Omar but he reported in January that the team may not be interested in keeping Allen. Like I said, its Omar but still, a local guy that does have ties to the daily opeation of the team. This guy Caplan is taking a stab in the dark or like I said, a plan set into effect by a team that cannot come to $$$$$$ terms with a player they really want to resign. Casting a shadow is an old way of doing things and believe me, Ireland and Sparano would do whatever it takes to keep their jobs.
I never thought it'd be possible to potentially see our line worse off than 08 after an Oline Head Coach took over the team. If Carey doesn't heal & Richie walks, then that's exactly what could happen unless the draft or FA changes things.
Incognito has versatility & is scrappy, Berger is a disaster, need a starting left guard & center with pro-bowl potential from this draft. the longer I watch Sparano operate the more I think they guy is an idiot.
Well it all depends if Incognito wants big time money. If he does you have to let him walk, he is average at best.
Miami wanted two year deal, Incognito's agent wanted one year deal, thats what held up the works for a few days. You look at both sides here. Team wanted him on the cheap for two years. His agent would go for one year. Incognito proved himself. RG in OTAs, then moved to LG in camp, Moved to center when we ran out of centers, Played well, Pay the guy and keep him here.
2009 Offensive production http://www.nfl.com/teams/miamidolphins/statistics?season=2009&team=MIA&seasonType= 2010 Offensive Production http://www.nfl.com/teams/miamidolphins/statistics?season=2010&team=MIA&seasonType= Kinda looking like our OL got worse instead of better. It was a great revamp wasn't it? If they did the exact opposite of what they are thinking we'd be in the super bowl.
If we can sign him for cheap, another $1 million deal, then I wouldn’t mind letting Incognito compete at center. We’re not exactly drowning in draft picks this year, so filling OL needs adequately will be tough.
Yes, thank you. I don't think anyone is the slightest confused about the line performing worse in 2010 than it did in 2009. Do you have any alternate theories about why neither Jake Grove nor Justin Smiley are playing right now? Do you have an explanation that in any way accounts for their decline and loss of jobs? Do you have a list of offensive linemen in free agency who were remarkably better options than who the Dolphins replaced them with?(I'm not holding my breath, btw)
There is only one stat that matters, 2009 team record 7-9 2010 team record 7-9 There is a 231 yard difference in Total yards between the 2 years. Hardly a difference that counts. Henne did NOTHING to make defenses even respect him, a little. They knew a less then 10 yard pass was coming and we knew it. Carey and Long were not dinged the way they were and the interior Oline subs were a lot better then Proctor and McQuistan, that was the difference. Add in Ricky and Ronnie are no longer featured backs and the entire league figured out this Wildcat bs, us or no other team ran it to success this year.
Badly, at that. I understand wanting to keep him around as depth at the guard position... but any more than that? No way.
Get busy getting better, or get busy staying the same. Keeping Richie Incognito would have been more of the same. Miami's OL needs a makeover, they weren't near athletic enough in 2010. This is like when it was obvious that Miami's LB unit was too slow in 2009 and so they gave the unit a makeover and really upgraded speed all the way around by bringing in 4.6 guys like Karlos Dansby and Tim Dobbins, elevating Cameron Wake, and drafting Koa Misi to take Jason Taylor's spot. That was a wholesale athleticism upgrade. I think Miami would like to do that with the OL as well.
This is why I would have fired Sparano no matter what. If you can't either coach, or pick a good OL when you are the expert, then basically you can't excel in this league doing what you do best, let alone the rest. Imagine if we drafted Matt Ice instead of Jake Long ? He would be running for his life, and we would be calling him a bust.
He's had a boring fantasy football show on Sirius NFL radio for 3 years or more. I wondered who the heck he was when the show first came on radio. Footballinjuries.com was his claim to fame. He and his co-host had some information here and there but for the most part they were just well versed in local media of all 32 teams. I have no doubt that over time they have networked their way further up the food chain. Here is his bio at the now merged website.... http://www.fantasyguru.com/StaffBlog/adam-caplan/
Our O-line needs improvements but I do not view replcing incognito as an urgent need aslong as his agent is not over pricing his value. We have enough holes to fill as is, we should not be creating more if we do not have too. I would like to see us get a good center and move ritchie back to being a guard.
