Today is the Dolphins on their two a days (Jax the other) on their NFL combine / off-season preview. Not surprising, they totally trashed the Dolphins - especially bringing up the Coaching situation & QB as the catalysts for their dire prediction. They said they consider the Bills ahead of us at this point. I hate to say I agree with them. They stated the worst parts are a FO that doesn't believe in its coach (the Harbaugh business was brought up again), and then Henne being benched for Pennington, meaning that Sparano doesn't have faith in Henne. They predict we are in for a disasterous season.
I agree with them. I think we will be one of the worst teams next year. IMO we will have a top 5 Draft pick. I just don't see teams fearing henne and they will have more to throw at him. The people they hired are questionable at best. Two years ago, people were saying Henning and Lee were geniuses because of how our offense looked. Lee is responsible for the entire NFL implementing the "Wildcat". Insert henne and all of a sudden they were the worst in the NFL. It doesn't add up to me. Can henne take the next step? Who knows, but if he can't, we pick top 5 next year in my opinion.
I think the feeling is their offense really did good things when the inserted Fitz as QB. It was their Defense that was horrid. We fixed our D in one offseason and maybe they can too. They did just hire wanny and he is a great D Co-ord. He sucked as a head coach, but you have to admit he was a great defensive coordinator.
They beat us last time we played and they had a stronger second half of the season. They are also currently better than us at QB.
Buffalo has split with us for the last 2 seasons. Eh, their opinion, to me 2011 revolves around how well we fix the running game, everything works off of that for us.
Mike & Mike know nothing about the NFL. Golic played, so he understands football, but when it comes to grading players and teams, he's just as clueless as the other dolt. The average poster on this board knows more about the NFL than those guys. Even if you disagree with me, predicting the future is not their forte. From the Tuesday Morning QB: "Mike Greenberg and Mike Golic combined to go 30-37-5 on their "stone cold lead pipe locks," meaning when Mike and Mike were certain they were right, they were usually wrong." Link: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page...0215_tuesday_morning_quarterback&sportCat=nfl
Well what do you expect? Greenburg is a Jets fan and Golic was cut loose by the phins, so neither likes them to start with.
What the Dolphins need is for no one to offer Matt Hasselbeck an outright starting position. If that happens, bring him in to compete with Henne. Then draft a QB in round 1. That would give us 3 options at starting QB. May the best man win.
If 1 of these QB's start the season for us Mcnabb, Palmer, Pennington [if he can last}, Young, and we draft Mark Ingram, we'll compete.
Not true. They're both tied at the hip. Nobody was shaking in their boots when Pennington lead us to the playoffs. Mike and Mike are clowns as most of us know so there's no reason to listen to anything they have to say about football.
I hope to hell they're wrong, but what they say makes a lot of sense. As others have hinted at, this season bears a striking resemblance to the start of the 2004 season.
It's mind boggling how many different ways this season could go. Their scenario is definitely possible, whether they know football or not.
Golic doesn't like Miami , for some reason , I believe assoiated with his playing time here ...he has some issue. However he did select GB , before the season as the team he thought would win the SB , honestly Miami hasn't done a lot to inspire their fans , why would we expect a more positive one from others?
You might not agree with them, but I thought some decent points were made in this thread about similarities of pre 2004 season and pre 2011 season - http://www.thephins.com/forums/show...els-Between-2004-and-2011&highlight=parallels
Is that on the paid part of the site? I am not part of that. Could you please give me some highlights? I can see some similarities, however I see a lot of differences. For one the best player on the team is not going to retire. I am tossed up between calling that player Wake or Long. However neither are going to retire, I would bet my left testicle on that. David Boston is not nearly as good as Brandon Marshall, and Marshall is healthy. The Dolphins have a good left tackle. I do think Henne is a better passing quarterback than Fiedler and I think Thigpen in heads and shoulders better than AJ Feeley. The Dolphins are going to play the same exact defense and has a lot of youth on defense. The Dolphins also have Bess on offense.
I don not nor ever have listend to them. As a matter of fact, I don't listen to any sports broadcasts over the radio, never did, never will. Each host has his own agenda and 90% of the time the stuff that spews from their mouths is purely each ones opinon. Like fans, once one of them barfs out an opinion, the other bottome feeder radio hosts pick up on it then put their own malicious thoughts to it. Too much good music these days to waste time listening to radio jocks.
Even if this was true, I don't understand how ESPN would allow this. It wouldn't be fair to Dolphins fans to consistently hear the team be defamed by a guy who likes the Jets and a guy who used to play for them. Next you'll tell me ESPN hates the Dolphins. But how would that make sense?
Sorry for the late response. Yeah, it was in club. Sorry I didn't notice. Basically talks about how it's a do or die year for both coaches. I know that's debatable. Also talks about how in both years we are going in with unproven QBs, etc. There were some other things. Some were speculation. Like what if we were to trade for Kevin Kolb? That would be eerie. And although Ricky is not longer the MVP he was back then, he is likely leaving us again this year. I hate to be negative, but I'm just worried about this season (if it happens). Hell I was worried about this last season and at the time it didn't look like I had much to be worried about. With the uncertainty around Henne, new offensive coordinator and Sparano there is just so much that could go wrong this year. I really hope that everything just clicks and I end up being dead wrong though.
It is a little eerie, however Kolb is a 2nd round pick who has had some success, while AJ was a low round pick who had much smaller success. Also if Ricky leaves he is being let go and right now the offense and success of the team is not nearly as dependent. I do think there are reasons to be negative, however I do not see a season where Miami picks in the top 5 next season. Unless they just have a bunch of horrible injuries. One major difference between 2004 and 2011 is the fact that the defense. The defense is young and hungry. It is going to be coached exactly the same. Mike Nolan is not going to pull a Dom Capers and switch the defense to something completely different. I would also take Marshall, Bess and Hartline over Chambers, Booker and Thompson? any day. They are also not getting rid of one of their best defesive players like they did in 2004. Heck looking it up, John St. Clair and Damian McIntosh were the tackles. An injured Vernon Carey is better than both of them. An uninjured Nate Garner is better than both of them. if the team stays relatively healthy there is no way they are a 4-12 team. Even if henne doesn't improve.
I'm assuming sarcasm and don't think ESPN has a bias against the Dolphins as a whole; but if I'm on a talk show (as a Dolphin fan) I'm not going to be going on and on about how great the Jets and Patriots are, nor would I spend a lot of time talking up a company that had fired me in the past. I don't really care one way or the other what they say, but I certainly don't expect that pair to ever be overly complimentary to the Dolphin franchise.
