I don't see how that Under Armour quote can be used to say, in any way whatsoever, that Cam Newton is "mouthy". Unless you have an agenda, which I find many people do.

Nothing you said here whatsoever pertains in any way to a criticism of his answer to the question about his Under Armour endorsement. At all. You've completely changed the question around to try and make your criticisms look better. You went from criticizing his Under Armour answer based on his not having won any NFL games, which I showed clearly to be faulty reasoning, to now some completely different and nonsensical argument. I agree with your statemenet that there are legitimate reasons for some people not to like him. But you've not outlined one yet. I say calm down, take a few breaths, fashion a logical argument that actually makes sense, then come back to the table. Ranting in nonsensical ways doesn't really accomplish anything but make you look desperate to criticize the guy for any reason at all.

Ok CK.If so many people care only about College, and the NFL means nothing, why do you spend 3/4 of you life projecting College players to the NFL. Seems more than relevant to me. That aside, many have pointed out the small sample size to look at his game, the spread offense which afforded him many an easy throw, and the fact he hasnt taken a snap from under centre. Im not high on Cam Newton's game to begin with, Cam Newton the person aside. If you want to further any discussion regarding Cam Newton, you can show a little bit of respect. I realize this time of year you like to puff your chest out even a little further, but that crap aint going to fly here.

Again, you are arguing something COMPLETELY unrelated and irrelevant. Try again.

Yeah, statements like that really inspire me to treat your arguments with respect.

First off CK, where have I made Newtons comment into some huge issue? I realize its not that big of a deal, but for me it turns me off. Thats my right. I see a guy who to me could end up being a little too full of himself and a little too arrogant for my tastes. I dont care about his Heisman. I dont care about his undefeated season. I care about how he's going to translate into the NFL. I see things in his game that would scare me off early. Simple as that.

Cam Newton as a person, well I dont know him any better than you do. But when a kid is already giving off little signs here or there that he thinks alot of himself. pretty sure 50 million bucks, endorsements and fame isnt going to ground him. In the end maybe Im completely wrong about the guy and he turns into a humble, superstar NFL QB. Hes not my cup of tea, which is my right. Just because someone disagrees with you doesnt make them non sensical.

    1989 .

I think right around this time of year , the combine if I recall correctly , NYG are set to interview Deion Sanders .

Prime time walks in , after perfunctory hellos , he asks the Giants what spot they are picking , the Giants reply 18 , Neon Deion chortles , 18? hell I'll be long gone by then and leaves the interview.

    Hurt his career I suppose...

He never saw an opportunity to self promote he didn't take advantage of .... he also has a bust being made for him , just saying.

That's fine if you're turned off by the statements. But if you're criticizing the statements based on "how can you be an icon if you've not won any NFL games" then I'm going to tell you, that is an error in logic. That logic assumes that college football doesn't matter when it comes to being a sports icon. It does. Cam Newton is a college football icon. He has HUGE number of fans because of his college football exploits, complete with little kids looking up to him, and the biggest endorsement deal ever given to a college player that just finished up his college career. He's a Heisman Trophy winner. He was asked a question pertaining to how he views himself or his goals with his Under Armour deal. He gave the correct answer. That's really all there is to it.

He thinks a lot of himself because he IS a lot. He's accomplished RARE things. If he never played a down of NFL ball, not even one, just pulled himself out of the Draft today and said I'm going to be something else...he's still a sports icon. He's still a college football icon, a college football legend. From here on for a hundred years he will be on lists of the greatest college football players to ever play the game. I know people three times his age, that aren't Auburn fans, that maintained forever that Jim Plunkett was the best college football player they ever saw...and have now changed their minds and think Cam Newton is. Thinking highly of himself doesn't mean he's not grounded. I've yet to see indications that he's not grounded, and I've seen plenty of indications that he is.

Problem is, despite this taste people have for the silent type that just keeps his head down, nobody has EVER shown me, in any meaningful way whatsoever, that being that type of personality is conducive to being a better football player, or to playing winning football. Deion Sanders was one of the best to ever play the game. As was Michael Irvin, and Cris Carter. Hell, even Jerry Rice talked, people don't remember that. Today in his interviews, Gabe Carimi just called himself THE best tackle in the class, and when asked why he said "I don't know where to start..." But I *know* that some of the people that are going to criticize Cam Newton for being "full of himself" are going to be fans of Gabe Carimi as a tackle, and not talk about him being full of himself.

But people don't have an appetite for when a black player says those things and that's the truth.

Anybody have a link to the fact that was in response to the under armor deal? Just curious and couldn't find it anywhere. Also, if that quote was taken out of context then it's poor journalism on King's part.

Not sure what race has to do with anything, or at least in my opinion of Cam Newton. Self indulged white athletes turn me off as well. Peyton Manning has carved out a decent career being modest and workmanlike despite his elite talent. just sayin.

Insinuating that everyone who doesn't like what Newton said is a racist is truly unnecessary. You make a fine argument without it.

I dont think I have an agenda...However I do spend a lot of hours, as do you, studying players that we may have interest in, from the limited info we do have, seeing that we are not privy to all things, and their context's, I would say that this kids mouth and actions over a course of time, warrants some concern...If we happen to select him, I will do everything possible to overcome my instinct that tells me hes a moron, because I do admit that he just might be a good kid, that just isnt that smart.

I have not said his words and mouth would keep him from being a great player.

I truthfully don't feel that's a fair statement to those of us who aren't sold on Cam. I don't think there are many of us who are against Cam for the sake of having an agenda. To sum us up in that way is disingenuous. Most of us who aren't on his wagon aren't there b/c he hasn't proven to us for one reason or another that we need hop aboard it. Nothing more, nothing less. It's simple sales. The product looks nice, but until I'm sold on it, I'm not buyin it...... and IMO he still has some more selling to do (hopefully w/o actually "trying" to sell us). At least that's my take. Anyone who has an "agenda" isn't welcome in my wagon. Not to mention, agendas work both ways. Just sayin.

Not to mention, being a great kid doesn't mean that he'll be a great decision maker when things get even tougher. He won't be able to cheat his way through the NFL when the mental aspects of the game kick in, and I don't mean that as a snide remark; rather it's just a generalized statement b/c none of us know how he'll handle the NFL. Just as I cant forecast that he won't be able to handle it, no one else can say for certain that he will handle it.

The one thing that I don't view as highly debatable, however, is that he poses more of a risk in the mental & decision making aspects of the game than many past top prospects......... and Cam's past actions & words can be blamed for that.

He might never "cheat" again, but what if the problem lay in his decision making rather than the individual acts of cheating. Some people just make poor, impulsive decisions that get them into trouble. Brains can be wired that way. Just b/c he might recognize that cheating is wrong and shouldn't do it again, that doesn't mean he'll make the proper decision in all other aspects of his life. If he's a kid with impulse control problems that lead to some poor decisions (IE: cheating, tons of tickets, or having the wrong words come out of his mouth), then I'm not sure I want to pay him millions to be the face of a team, let alone the QB of it. The kid has a history of making bad decisions..... and that's a serious red flag in my book.

Another red flag is having a team of people around him who are, in essence, trying to prepare him to not fail.

As you can see Todd, Cam isn't the only one who cheats. Students all across UF, and other major universities are cheating every year. What's worse than Cam cheating however is that these kids may be CEO's, doctors, or lawyers and have a more influential role in the world than Cam will as a football player. While I don't condone what Cam did, it gets extremely blown out of proportion because he is an athlete and celebrity.

Other than being black, and athletic quarterbacks with big arms they aren't the same. Cam has never had a problem with his weight like Jamarcus did, remember he had to lose 9 pounds before the combine to get back to his playing weight. Also Cam's work ethic is unquestionable, something that can't be said about Jamarcus.

I'm not trying to insult anyone. To me an "agenda" with respect to taking a statement and making a conclusion based on the statement just means that you've already got your mind made up and because you have your mind made up, and you've established your position, you see the new piece of evidence through that lens. DJ has made it clear many times before Cam said anything about being an icon or an entertainer, that Cam Newton is a "moron" (an absurd statement if you ask me). He's made that clear. Naturally, he takes any new piece of evidence, regardless of whether it's inconsequential or not, and sees it through that rose colored lens. It's no more or less than any of us do.

As I said originally, those statements don't move ANYONE'S needle. If you had feelings about Cam Newton one way, you're going to read the statement and feel that way. If you had feelings about Cam Newton the other way, you're going to read that statement and feel the other way.

In the mean time it's hilarious that absolutely nobody cares about Gabe Carimi's boasts or Jake Locker's admission that he's still thinking about baseball, with both statements being AT LEAST as bad as Newton's.

I don't care what the other people are doing. As you yourself can see if you look it up, not EVERYONE graduates from UF who attends the college, so you should probably check into the correlation between cheaters and those who end up dropping out or not amounting to much <b/c you cant just assume that the cheaters go on to become successful individuals>.

It wasn't 1 time. It was 3 times...... and if you read my post, it wasn't the cheating that I'm as concerned with; it's his decision making.

Who said no one cares? I don't mind a strong display of confidence, but Carimi should shut the f*** up and prove himself on the field rather than with his mouth....... and Locker should be looked at as potentially the next Pat White. The only reason Locker is thinking about baseball is b/c he's beginning to doubt himself in football. I don't want a guy like that on my team, and I wouldn't throw anything higher than a 4th at him.

Many of us have reservations about Cam Newtons game though CK. Do you honestly think a comment about being an icon is how most intelligent people would evaluate a draft prospect? For me its the small sample size, the spread offense which allowed many a bubble screen, and taking snaps under centre. Hes supremely talented, but IMO hes also a risk at this point in time to draft high. As said above, I think Locker is beginning to know hes dropping, and also if there is a lockout perhaps baseball is an option. I dont know the context of the question or answer. I have a problem with any college guy spouting off before accomplishing anything in the NFL, black or white.

Just because no one in the media has yet to take issue with Carimi's or Locker's comments doesnt mean no one cares. You or I arent in contact with every NFL team and what they really think about prospects. To speak for everyone else is somewhat pointless.

College is at least as important and big to a great many people as the NFL is. The man is an icon at Auburn and in the college ranks. He's not the first, not the last.

Remains to be seen how he will be at the NFL level, but if he expresses the desire to be an NFL icon then to me he expressing the desire to work hard and overcome adversity, just as he done all through his career to this point.

I realize College Football is important to many. I love College ball too. My point has been the same all along, which is his College accomplishments now mean nothing moving forward into the NFL. Thats all my point has ever been. Personally I think the term "icon" is getting tossed around far too liberally to begin with when talking about athletes.

Even Charlie Ward is still an icon for what he did in college.

At the school I went to, one of my teachers eventually quit because she got in trouble for trying to flunk some students who obviously cheated on some tests.

Also in college there are a lot of classes that a student has to take that has NOTHING to do with their work. Cheating is rampant in those classes.

    Anybody remember hearing about this?

So this concludes my social commentary about cheating in institutions. This is a rampant problem among all of society, because people are beginning to see it as acceptable. Now are all students who cheat bad people? I wouldn't say so, some probably are. Others are young and make bad decisions in the heat of the moment, and some succomb to the pressures to succeed and do whatever it takes. Do I give Cam Newton a pass for cheating because everyone does it? No, but I don't condemn him either.

Thats right, I have made it clear, you know why?, because anyone who thinks their skillset is a blessing from god IS... A.... MORON....IMO.... I say that because I have an opinion, thats right, an opinion, an opinion based on watching every once of film, interview, and article thats out there, because thats what I do....... and your agenda seems to be about protecting your projection...I myself refuse to fall for the measurables, and the athleticism, without taking into account whats upstairs, and how I...ME..Interpret it..

Just to let you in on a little something if you havent been out of the film room lately..His character is in question by PROFESSIONAL SCOUTS, the same scouts that have much more access than you and I do, the same scouts that you and myself have admiration for.

    One from an NFL scout..

Cam Newton is a big time athlete, hes more smooth and fluid than explosive, His mechanics are all off..Hes more of a thrower than a passer..Hes got that flashy smile and that look in his eye and he's way to scripted...I dont like it..He's too fake..

    ''Suspect character and maturity..''

I could go on and on...and I will until he shows a level of humility that I...KEY WORD THERE, ''I'' respect...

CK, i have tremendous respect for your eye, your work ethic, and overall flair for the game you love, but you are not the only sir that has talent in their eyes, and their intuition..People see and perceive things differently, sometimes better than you, and sometimes better than me..

I have said before about Newton, he comes across as contrived, Iam also on the record in saying that if he fell to us at 15 I would embrace him, and be excited about the skillset, and maybe over time we would get some glimpses of humility, and some understanding that when you say something like your skill is blessed, that you are hurting others who are severely less fortunate...If you do not have the intelligence to figure that out than imo, you need to get checked...and maybe his father needs to get checked to..
