Despite a flurry of rumors and even inaccurate media reports, the Dolphins in fact did not trade Jason Taylor on Saturday. The Dolphins didn't even field calls for Taylor, according to general manager Jeff Ireland. This much is not rumor: Despite vice president of football operations Bill Parcells saying that the only way Taylor doesn't play for Miami this year is if he retires, the Dolphins are indeed open to trading Taylor. Ireland spent part of last week calling other NFL teams to gauge interest in Taylor. And managing partner Wayne Huizenga told Palm Beach radio station ESPN 760 he would be open to trading Taylor. http://www.miamiherald.com/1279/story/511248.html
That kind of bums me out. We could really use a couple of extra draft picks, but I guess its too late for that now. At least we still have an elite defensive player... as long as he doesnt retire on us.
NFL execs: Dolphins shopping Taylor A day after signing Michigan's Jake Long, the Dolphins have turned their attention to acquiring another first-round pick, according to two NFL executives. And it appears they are shopping star defensive end Jason Taylor to do it. The goal is to corral another player at the top of their draft board, one the organization fears might not be around when they select again at No. 32, which is the first pick of the second round. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/football/pro/dolphins/sfl-flspdoltaylor24sbapr24,0,4078579.story
phillip merling said he fashioned his game on jason taylor so maybe keeping jason to help work with merling wont be a bad thing but if he wants to be traded trading him to a contender for picks next year wouldnt be bad also
The fact is that at 34, he just doesn't have the trade value that we as fans anticipate. He's much more valuable to us than what we could even dream of getting in trade for him. Now that the draft is over, in respect to a trade for JT, the possibility of a player trade could develop. Especially after a few of the minicamps when they get to really see what Merling and Langford bring to the table, coupled with the other DE and LBs on the team...
He's never actually said he wanted to be traded. It's perfectly within the realm of possibility that he might not have a problem playing in Miami this season.
I for one hope he stays. If he wants to play here, he should. I'll only believe he wants to go when he says it himself. If he does go, I wish him all the best. He's been a great player and public figure for the team. He's always told it like it is, so I hope that's what he'll do soon, so we'll know what is really going to happen with him.
