One player does not make a team (unless you're Schisno). :)

I dont envy you. On one hand Peyton is an elite player, a top 3 player by any standard who deserves to get paid and on the other you are correct that 2 1sts is simply not enough to let go of him. I had Peyton at 18M last year and I never thought about cutting him because I knew something like this might happen. IMO you keep Peyton and try and fill in the pieces around him as best you can.

Yeah but if it is who I think it is, his limit was passed 7-8 mil ago.

I’ll say. This is out of control. Lots of overreaction and overestimation of Manning going forward.

It surely isn't, but it should be noted that he did pick the Colts as one of his top 5 selections. If I were in his position i don't know how I could have done anything different though. Perhaps sandbagging his trades/cuts? Don't clear the space until the very end. That way the $ wouldn't have gotten out of hand.

    Oh boo hoo.

Manning is an unrestricted free agent that had to be franchised.

No one is ruining your GM League season, it was all in good fun until you started acting like a big baby, and claiming that you would match any offer so that open up the can of worms of daring you to. I have never once thrown out any kind of name calling or implication of such. I'm just having fun and the one thing I don't do is bluff, if anyone remembers during the Jason Brown bid a couple seasons ago I bid until I got him, and people thought ten million was a lot.

At this point you're coming in with a piss poor attitude claiming I'm out here to try and ruing your season. I could win, or lose out on Manning and wouldn't care because I'm been having fun putting on my poker face. Really you have a lot of cap room, you could have made a plan to trade for another quarterback knowing that Peyton would be THE marquee name this year.

You don't have to match me, and there are worse things in the world then losing Manning for two first rounders.

The Steelers are losing Woodley for nothing because they transitioned him, it's a bigger crime to get nothing.

So buck up my little friend and realize the only one that can ruin a good time is yourself. So don't throw blame when you know that you never had to trade guys away, or even match for Peyton beyond a point.

I still love you and that's all that counts *kiss*

To add... if he knew he had the Tuesday 24 hour period to match the offer (thus clear whatever cap he needed to), schisno's offer would have been easier to match.

peyton is great but 37 or 42 mil/season is ridiculous take the 2 1st rd picks and build anew

Or he could have just accepted that Manning coudln't be retained and saved his franchise. No one forced him to franchise Manning, nor to match any offers. This is a game of technicalities. IRL, Nnamdi cant be tagged. In here he can. IRL Albert Haynesworth was an UFA in 09, in here he was not. Sometimes you lose a big fish because of a technicality. Sometimes is allows you to snag one, if you have the proper bait.

Why would you just accept losing a top 3 player for 2 mid-late firsts? Thats worse mismanagement then matching a 40M offer. We all know QB is the most important position and while Matt Flynn is a fine contingency plan he certainly isnt Peyton Manning. What I think i would do is match for Manning and see who is still QB needy and see who wants to bid on Flynn to fill some holes.

bottom line is 31 teams will not have peyton manning when this is done. he is the only one that can get compensated for that. its his choice.

why the hell you dragging me in this? you want to overpay have at it i wasnt committing ~ 10 mil on woodley, felt 7.3 was as high as i go. steelers lbs sure look great/elite w pitt, outside k green who else was great elsewhere?

2 1's would have been great if i had known some1 would bid 12 from the gate, would have franchised for the picks. last year never saw numbers this high. 42 mil on any qb when mkt is at tops 20 is ludicrous, so clearly our philosophies r diff, especially when i started 8-10 mil over the cap

If 53% of your salary cap is allocated to one player, you'll have to average ~$700k per player to stay under the cap and field a 53 man roster.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Adrian Peterson.

It could be done. I think I know how. Now that i think about it, I actually would have had fun with that challenge. But you would have had to come in to the GML season with a particular strategy in mind. Its probably too late for him to do what I am thinking

at this point I'd take all the cap space, sign some great players with the money, package the picks you get and grab ingram or one of the top qbs to develop.

$12 million for Lamarr Woodley? He's incredible, but I don't know if he's worth that much tbh.

I would have been better off not mentioning my Manning strategy at all. I talked myself out of contention. The opening bid was too much for me. $36 million is absurd, not to mention the 2 first rounders.

If I cant afford to top his offer, then how could I afford to trade for him? Are you going to renegotiate his salary after you sign him?

Another bid for manning. This reminds me of that scene from Star Wars where a dying Yoda says "there is another....jed...iiiiiii".
