The Lions started Free Agency with a bang. Early this morning the Lions agreed to a deal with Franchised player Nnamdi Asomugha. He is considered by many to be one of the best corners in the NFL and one of the few pure man to man shut down corners around. The Lions are hoping that with the pressure they create from their defensive line that having a star like Asomugha will lead to more sacks and hopefully more turnovers. The Lions General Manager had this to say about the signing:

The Lions also welcome back defensive end Cliff Avril.

Last year really seemed to be a turning point for Avril with 8.5 sacks. At the age of 24, the hope is that he will continue to improve as a pass rush specialist and become the double digit sack threat this defense can use.

Adding both Asomugha and Avril to a defense that already has: Rookie of the Year Ndamukong Suh, star safety Louis Delmas, productive veterans in Kyle Vanden Bosch and Corey Williams, and improving linebacker DeAndre Levy. Needless to say this D will be the backbone of the Detroit Lions for years to come.

BTW, all of our players are required to put their arms in the air whenever they make a big play.
