discuss... (please discuss, because i did not see the fight, and the review i read makes it sound as though Bones dominated Shogun before ending it in the third. i am curious how lopsided the fight was before the TKO.) also, did anybody else hear Dana White say on Spike's free prelims that Jones chased a mugger down in a NJ park for a mile, knocked him down with a leg kick and held him til the police got there, 2 HOURS before the fights started!
Jones destroyed him. He took shogun down at will, was NEVER in trouble standing or in Rua's guard, Bones completlet dominated every aspect of the fight. Shogun was gassed at the end of the 1st. He was constantly defending. Bones starts the fight with a flying knee, combo, spinning elbow and never let off the gas......pushing the pace relentlessly until the ultimate destruction in the third. I kid you not, before the fight they showed a stat that Shogun had never been knocked down in the UFC......well at the end of the fight, Bones was just laying into him, knee to the body, kick, punches, the ref steps in to stop the fight as Shogun crumbles to the ground TAPPING OUT DUE TO STRIKES.......so the ref stopped the fight, but had he not, shogun was literally to the breaking point of QUITTING due to utter domination. It was INSANE. I was going nuts. The guy is a monster and hes like 24 years old. Its insane. The other story besides the mugger incident is he will be fighting former training partner Reshad Evans for his first title defense....Reshad has since (so i read) left Greg Jacksons camp......it's going to be interesting. also, quick tidbit, Cro Cop is done with the UFC after losing to shaub via nasty knock out.
He's one of my favorite fighters. He absolutely destroyed Shogun. Loved it. Had the whole Wing House clapping haha.
Rashad Evans is probably the only guy I can think of that may beat Jones but I don't think he will either. Jones is 23, btw. Thank god Cro Cop is done.
Reshad said he still with Greg Jackson. Shogun was in no shape whatsoever. Period. Bones could of literally ran around in circles around Rua and kicking him in the ***. Utter domination.
Dunno how? Evans will be at a HUGE reach disadvantage. Jones has dominated better wrestlers than reshad (ryan bader and matt hamil). Jones has dominated better stand up fighters (rua)......IMO Evans gets destroyed
Since when? Reshad said as of last night hes completley done with Jackson. edit: http://www.5thround.com/71179/rasha...ackson-i-already-know-how-to-fight-jon-jones/
Evans has zero chance. Bones will push the pace, keep pressure on him, on the ground, standing up, and probably knock out a gassed Rashad by the third. At this moment I dont see a prospect of Jones losing for a long time. Unless spider desides after a few more title defense he wants a shot.
Silva doesn't want any part of Jones ground game. Jones stayed in Shugon's guard and absolutely brutalized him. Silva would have a punchers chance, and that's about it IMO.
Jon Jones story about his crime fighting incident, it's a really great story:
Eh Im not so sure of that. Rua had no cardio to speak of, completely gassed within 4 minutes. Silva has much better cardio and while both are bjj black belts fromt he nogiueras I am confident in saying Spiders is much more advanced than Ruas, especially from the bottom. As when you say a "punchers chance" I would much rather place a bet on Silvas "punchers chance" than anyone else in MMA.
this stuff about Silva having no cardio may be true, but it is his own fault. let's keep in mind that Jones just came off a fight with Bader, and really didn't have time for a full camp leading up to this, or to rest and repair the wear and tear of that fight the way a fighter normally does. which makes his destruction of Shogun all the more impressive. GSP vs Anderson Silva? don;t get me wrong i will watrch it, but now i REALLY want to see "Bones" vs Silva!
Jones didn't take any damage in the Bader fight. He rested a little bit (I think he took a week off), but the key was to make sure he didn't reach the point of over-training leading up to Rua. And then he takes no damage against Shogun. THAT'S impressive. Shogun didn't look to be in the greatest shape, but I think that big knee he took early did as much damage as any cardio issues. Jones fought a great fight. He was patient and varied his attack as usual. He was in danger only once in the fight, when he missed a strike and Shogun got his back. But Shogun dropped down instead of doing something with it. And Jones just shrugged that off. As of last night Rashad was re-iterating that he's done with Jackson. He said Jackson brought in Jones against his wishes and he doesn't have Rashad's best interests at heart. So I would assume Jackson will end up training Jones for that fight. And then I hope it's Anderson Silva. That's a much better, more 'fair' fight than GSP IMO.
The first spinning punch jones attempted was a stupid move and could have cost him a lot. He got real lucky shogun couldn't keep his back. Jones is a good fighter but yeah you can tell something was different about shogun. Shogun got lit up from the bell. I think overall shogun was stupid for letting jones dictate the fight from the get go, the pace, stand up, etc.
I think a large part of that was Jones' length. Shogun just couldn't reach him. Couldn't get inside. And Jones was peppering him with those long jabs and straight kicks to the knees when he'd even think about coming forward.
I think pace was definately something shogun should have slowed down. Especially if he's trying to find a way inside.
