There are a number of posters here who know more than I do when it comes to the draft. I watch a lot of College ball, do a fair amount of research on picks, and have had some success in being right. Still, I know that pales in comparison to some here. My question is how and why draft picks float up, and drop down, at this point of the deal? No one has played anymore games, the little the combine had to offer is history, as well as the Pro Days where everyone does well. The needs of teams were the same they were at the end of the last season. No team has signed any FA's because there is no FA, and teams have been looking at potential draft picks for over a year. So, what is the reason for players moving up and down the boards at this point in time? I just don't get it.
Draft analysts, like Mayock, etc. have said 90% of their work was done before the above, and that there could be a slight change mostly based on interviews. Everything is done but mock draft will continue to change. The only thing I can think of is keeping fans clicking in.
IMO Mocks primarily change due to the fact that the "experts" are receiving more information (or misinformation.) I may be wrong but teams likely have an idea of who they will be looking at and likely even have their "big boards" 95% finalized by this time of year. Barring of course some type of catastrophic disaster on a certain prospect part, whether it be injury, character concerns or an interview blow up. Differing amounts of this information leaking for the 32 teams, all effects value within mock drafts. Plus the ability for mock experts to look at more tape of players, as well as what is rumored, all alter their perception. The mock world is a primarily copycat business, it can normally be traced back to one person with a new thought/information that gets the ideas snowballing.
Because of the ever used smoke screens and people are always trying to figure a few teams needs when there are a few possible BPA's available at that pick.
