So they do plan on acquiring another QB. But, will it be by trade or via the draft?

I've never been a big Henne fan. I changed in 09 and thought he showed some nice promise but in 2010 I reverted back to skeptical. Knowing there was barely a run game and everything else, he, to me, did not improve enough in certain areas. He did try getting up inside the pocket a few times and that was nice to see but I thought that when he did go thru his progressions, he went way to fast, and had trouble with timing routes. Sure he puts the ball in the area to be caught but too many times we saw him throw behind or slightly behind his Wr, causing them to stop or slow their routes. Too many times we saw bullets coming at shorter routes. To me he threw way too many interceptions, and of course not all were his fault but seeing the same dumb int's as we saw thru college and in 09, it concerns me.

What makes me want to see more of Henne is the times when he gets into a groove and moves the team with near perfection. That kind of stuff makes a fan salavate. I also take into account that it could have been a mear slump by him, and also that his offensive coordinator was a total idiot in how he put things totally on Henne. People can tell me how he improved but I don't buy that completely. He's always been in or around a 60 percent passer, and his yards per is nothing to write home about but still it did improve. What I saw was a Qb that struggled against 2 and 3 deep zones. One that also struggled scoring Td's in the end zone.

So what I've said is that I want to see him compete for the starting job against some stiff competition next season. That, to me, is nothing but a good thing. If he wants the job, he has the potential to take it but he'll clearly have to work his butt off to get it. One thing I think he has going for him now that he really did not do much of before is he is now becoming a film room junkie. In case you ask, it was Chad Pennington who said he really did not spend enough time in there until right around the time when he got benched last season. So I'm not just throwing that out of thin air. It may just be the best way for him to get zone reads down and to see where he really needs to improve on things like where he needs to use more touch and so on. Then when he's on the field things will become more simple to him in his head. Slowing the game down.

So even though I may not be his biggest fan, I'm willing and want to see him win me over....

It's sad when the fact that our incumbent starter is going to compete for the starting job next season is actually considered news.

They can’t count on a trade scenario since there’s no CBA. The draft is the only legitimate option right now. The real question is the legitimacy of the competitor they acquire. Colin Kaepernick is not legitimate competition. Christian Ponder might be. Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert absolutely would be.

Thigpen is not on the roster. He did not sign his RFA tender.

I'd like to see us bring in Carson Palmer. Sure he hasn't played great lately. He's burned out with Cinci. A change of scenery would recharge this guy I believe. Let Henne compete with and perhaps continue to develop under Palmer. I know a lot of people have written Palmer off since his injury. Not me. I think he still has it. Of all the QBs - draft, free agents, available for trade - Palmer would be the safest bet, IMO.

Although Cinci is adamant about not trading him, what would you give up for him. With half of NFL teams looking for a QB, he would bring a #1 pick.

Here's an "off the wall" thought from a friend. Many are saying how much better QB's, in the draft, are than Henne. He asks how Henne would fare right now IF he were able to be drafted. Interesting question.

With the exception of Hasselbeck and maybe Mallett, that is very pathetic list. To think one of those guys might be our starting QB next makes me throw up a little in mouth.

One itsy bitsy problem...... Palmer is not available for a trade.
Mike Brown says he will NOT trade him :wink2:

He said one of the reasons is because he does not think he'd get any value out of trading Palmer. He's probably right but if someone offered value, I bet he'd do it...

Brown is a stubborn guy and not necessarily savvy when it comes to player personnel. I wouldn't be surprised to see him hold Palmer hostage out of principle.
Could be an artificial memory but didn't he do that very thing to Carl Pickens and Corey Dillon when they wanted out of Cincy.
I didn't really like the idea of Carson at first but it's growing on me. I still have concerns over his elbow but he would be great competition for Henne.
Interested to see where Brown crosses the line with his so called value.

  26. Ozzy

    Ozzy Premium Member Luxury Box

Absolutely agree but the value will most likely never be offered imo. Palmer is getting up there in age and has not lit the NFL on fire since he blew out his knee. He's solid and I would love to have him here but to give up even a second is too much and that won't cut it.

We don't have a second so that won't happen anyway:wink2:
Someone will more than likely offer something that the Bengals would be happy about value wise possibly but as you said it won't be us.

Going by the fact that Miami has no second, I pretty much meant no other team would either. A third maybe but I don't see a second and especially if teams needing Qb think one of the draftees might be a better choice.

Can't believe all the people that see Henne as even a viable option to consider as our starter.

Maybe I've been watching the wrong team last year. But what is still fresh in my mind is the ineptitude, inaccuracies, overthrows, locking on to a receiver, interceptions, fumbling the ball and a total lack of passion and consistency, damn he was better his rookie season .......

Sure he makes a play once and awhile and he's an ace under five yds , wait 3 yds.... and considering the competition that our crack staff has accumulated for him to compete with is still no reason to consider this potential 3rd string as our starter.

Another reason that points out Sparano just doesn't get it. He will eventually see the light but there will go another year down the drain..........Hey, I guess were pretty used to it by now..........

Nobody is trading for Carson Palmer. With a contract worth about 13 million a year for the next 4 years, its insane. Even if he settles for half that amount, its still insane. Palmer is nothing like he was when at USC. Brown does not care what you give him, he is not trading the guy. Brown has made it known a loooooong time ago, no NFL player will ever force him to do something he does not want to do. Palmer has 2 options. When the CBA is settled, put in his retirement papers for 2011 or report to camp. Which , if he chooses number 2 scenario, would screw the Benglas royaly. Most certainly they will pick a QB at number 4, then to have Palmer report to camp ? LOL, oh boy, thats a lot of money to spend.

If that happened then I can see Brown just plain out cutting Pallmer for the new kid. Maybe then Palmer would be available but again, this guy is not worth what some people are willing to spend on him. If we thought Henne moved like a snail this guy makes Henne look like an Olympic Sprinter.

Right now we have no choice but to include Henne. Without FA and us picking at the 15th spot, there is little chance to get a QB from anywhere to compete with him. I am sure this was not in the grand scheme of things but hey, this is what we were dealt for now and have to make the best of it. I along with others pray something clicks in Hennes head and he comes out of his fog or whatever and is the next Aaron Rodgers or Brady or so forth.

I think maybe you were watching another team.

Henne rarely fumbles and has above average accuracy. Those two things are easily proven.

Most of the other things you mentioned are very subjective so I won't comment other than to say I disagree.

So you think Henne has above average accuracy......I wasn't watching another team and I know what I saw no matter what statistics you conjure up to show. I've seen way to many over thrown balls to Open receivers to even debate the issue and thats not to mention open receivers that he never was aware of.
QB's do not fumble very often so Henne fumbles I am talking about are relevant to QB's and he had to many, which luckily several we recovered and didn't get a turn over.

I think bottom line your right........we just totally disagree.........

Don't you know? We have to trade for Kolb, Orton, and Palmer even though we can't trade for anyone because of the CBA. We have to re-sign Pennington, sign Donovan McNabb, Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Byron Leftwich, and Matt Hasselbeck even though we can't sign free agents because of the CBA. We have to draft Newton, Gabbert, Kaepernick, Ponder, Locker, Dalton AND McElroy even though we have only 2 picks in the first 100 and none of these guys are going to be ready to start their rookie season. Look at all these options we have man. I mean we're just overflowing with ways to replace Chad Henne. /sarcasm

People build these dream scenarios without considering the facts. But good luck getting them to realize that.

henne is pretty good at throwing the ball to his wide receiver who is under 20 yards. In fact I would put him at above average. he could use improvement in ball placement, however as a 1st year starter it is decent enough. He could use improvement on his touch passes. If his pass is a bullet it will most likely get where he wants to go, if it is a touch pass, less so.

Being a established Henne basher doesn't make me a established miracle worker. Just trying to emphasize the point and that god I hope Sparano is aware of, but Henne is terrible. Now thats not to say that he goes to OZ and gets more talent from the wizard and becomes an outstanding #1 QB for the Fins, But I'm established with the fact that I and many fans see clearly his inability. Wish it was different but it's not imo.

1 million dollar question What do we do, I don't really know, But I do know that we are not going anywhere with Henne. Henne I'm fimiliar with to make this call and honestly I'm not familiar with who and what talent level QB's will be available.
But I would say that is our ######1 concern and personally if the right player was available I'd give up the farm to get a good one ( Kolb is one name being tossed around, still young and showed talent from what I hear, havent really seen a lot of him, but he fits the picture I'd like of talent, experience, and young). Not a draft nik just a dolphin fan so I don't know about them and can't give an honest opinion. But I'm in the position as you catagorized as a established Henne Basher, that there are or will be several players who may not have a future with us but for a year possibly two would be head over heals of an upgrade over Henne and I'm just waiting and curious to see how Coach S. and Ireland remedy the situation and to what extent they even see the problem.......
wouldn't give up the farm for talented but end of career guys but willing to bring in a guy with talent and let him develope slowly....... hell were not going anywhere.

We are stuck between a rock and a hard place and it just might be time for Mr Ireland to do something beyond the ordinary to solve this tough dilemma they helped put us in and show us why he gets the big bucks...... But I realize what Im wishing for and really not counting on anything besides our Organization sticking with a new and exciting running game not like the last one lol, in which They think they can get away with Henne starting another year.....afraid it most likely another bummer year.
