Good stuff here from Marshall.

    http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thedailydolphin/2011/04/01/a-finally-healthy-brandon-marshall-says-hes-in-best-shape-since-college-vows-that-dolphins-will-win-in-2011/

People can rip on Brandon, but it's hard to doubt his passion for the game and desire to be the best.

I've been doing the exact same things he is doing, starting at about the same time as he did. I've added roughly 7 lbs of muscle in the past few weeks, and toned up by quite a bit. It's a good feeling, I know what he means. Hopefully by the time August rolls around I'll be in as good of shape as he is.

He's doing what every NFL football player should be doing, getting his body in optimum condition for the employer that pays him millions..much respect to him, and nothing to the others that are not.

Its great that he will finally be healthy and getting his body in the best shape possible. I don't think he was in terrible shape, But I am sure working out more will def help him even more.

He needs to do something. Last season was a huge disappointment.
I think he is making excuses here for his poor production.
I hope 2011 is very different for him because he was pretty average in 2010.

When you have a substandard QB with substandard playcalling and still break 1,000 yds my hat is off to you.

Poor QB play and even worse play calling... and yet he had the best season of any WR we've had in a long time...

Brandon Marshall was sold as a WR who just needed the ball and would make something happen after that. Some receivers need QB play. Marshall wasn't supposed to need it. /Devil's advocate

Marshall put up 86rec and 1,014 yards in about 13 & 1/2 games. Extrapolate that over a full season and you're looking at 100+ receptions for 1,200 yards. Marshall produced plenty w/o good QB play...

Imo, from what he was projected at before he wore our uniform, which was top 5 receiver, and solely looking how he played his position from all angles, I think he fell short of that ranking..too many dropped passes, a lack of burst that seemed to be missing for a guy in the top 5, and way too much horizontal *****footing..but, hes ours, and hes good, and big, and strong, and I dont think we've seen his best.

marshalls a beast. my only issue with the guy is his desire to get YAC is often the reason he gets hurt. I know what your thinking "At least hes not like Ginn and just whimpers out of bounds" but the truth is, Marshall should do that occasionally.

    Wheres the (diva) team destroyer?
Personaly the positive attitude and fact hes keeping in shape is a perfect start for a new season.

Backing Henne? Thats like getting frosting on the cake.
No matter if Henne starts or not, Marshall seem to be on the right page.

I care that Marshall is healthy. Why wouldn't you care if one of our best players who's been banged up is feeling really good physically?

what's most important is that he and the WRs spend some time with Henne this offseason, much like Sanchez did last year ... it was painful to see just how disjointed Marshall and Henne were last year. Just that alone would make a significant difference is offense performance over last year - regardless of the defenses focus on Brandon, lack or running game and our hodge-podge OL.

You obviously know very little about football. In Madden, you can juke your way into the endzone.....in professional football, however, not quite as easy.

So WR's don't get TD's after they catch the ball and run in the NFL? That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. It happens all the time.
If this is some lopsided attempt to give Marshall a pass? It didn't work on me.
2.8 YAC average is poor for a supposed top 5 WR like Marshall and there were something like 55 or 60 WR's that had more TD's than our star wideout.
With that kind of production we should have kept Ginn and our two second round picks. Ginn could catch the ball and run out of bounds for less than three yards every time which is basically what BM did last season.

This really has to be the nadir. Seriously? Do you understand what the word "production" actually means when you seem to not understand that in entails how much often Marshall got open than Ginn, how much more percentage of passes he caught, etc. and so on?

The only thing that you are bringing up is YAC and TDs... both of which are heavily dependent on the offensive scheme. You get YAC by being given the ball in the open field. By having routes designed to create space and allow you to take advantage of it. Honestly... how many times do you remember Marshall going down on the first tackle? It was rare. Marshall was constantly making the first defender miss and/or breaking tackles all season long. But yet you are harping on the YAC number? You really believe Marshall's ability to run after the catch was the problem?

As far as the TD's, it wasnt just Marshall. Our whole offense was pathetic. Plus, how often was Marshall targeted in the red zone? How many countless times did we get to the red zone only to try to throw the ball to someone else or run the ball and kick a FG? Marshall had SIX catches in the red zone. SIX. I wish I had numbers for how often he was targeted in the red zone, but that stat isnt available in the splits. But out of those measly 6 receptions in the red zone, 50% of them went for TDs. You think it might have been beneficial to our offense to target him more in the red zone?

Regardless, Marshall was criminally mis-used and underutilized last year... and yet he still was on pace for 100rec and 1,200 yards.

maybe that had something to do with the double and sometimes triple coverage on him all the time.

  35. CaribPhin

    CaribPhin Guest

Then why do people then only blame the QB for ball placement. Maybe the ball placement is affected by double coverage.

But of course ball placement is effected by the coverage?

  37. CaribPhin

    CaribPhin Guest

It is. Of course it is. It always is. When people want to bash Henne, they say Marshall didn't get YAC because of ball placement. When they want to defend Marshall, they say it was because of double and triple coverage. Not taking into account ball placement would be affected by double and triple coverage. Then, they go on to say we don't need any WR upgrades (i.e. speed) which would take away some of the double and triple coverages from Marshall they say are holding him back, but only when they're not bashing Henne.

Well, I'm not bashing Henne for ball placement, nor am I defending Marshall's YAC number with ball placement.

What I have said, is that Marshall didnt get the YAC b/c he wasnt put in positions where he could get the ball in space, and that goes on the OC. Marshall also lacked red zone targets (aka - low TDs), which may be on the OC and may be on the QB.

The crux here folks is Brandon Marshall is billed as a playmaker whether you want to blame Henne or the coverages he just didn't make big plays.
There are two things that prevent that. The lack of opportunities or the lack of focus and effort. He had plenty of opportunities so it is safe to say it was the latter.
More than once on third down Henne put the ball on Marshall's hands and he dropped it with a blown chance to extend the drive.
He is supposed to be super star quality but he just hasn't shown it in Miami.
