I can't see Mallett lasting to our 3rd round pick unless everyone knows something about his supposed character issues I don't, and that's certainly possible. I don't like Kolb at all, or Kaepernick for that matter. I think Henne is a lost cause at this point. This staff has ruined him because they can't develop QB's worth a damn. They turned him into a QB afraid to go deep. Afraid to make a mistake. He won't bounce back from that imo. Only option I'd be happy with is Carson Palmer.
Reaching? For the best lineman in the draft? Again I ask: Where have we succeeded in drafting interior linemen late? Pouncey is a great pick. Do I wish we could have traded down and picked up a 2nd? Sure I do. But if you're pissed because we didn't draft a QB then wait and see, you'll be glad we didn't. Pouncey was the right choice. I guarantee a pro bowl player. Can you say that with certainty about any of the QBs? Not me. Again, I would have preferred we traded down. I'm sure we tried. Didn't happen. We took the best lineman in the draft, filled a big need, and improved our interior line immensely. No running back can run behind a slow, plodding crap interior line. And NO QB can play when pressure is coming straight into his face. It was the right choice. Any pick outside of Pouncey or Ingram at that point would have been a reach or a player where we already were strong: IE; defensive line.
We just didn't have the ammo to trade up...I'd have taken a little less to trade down and get more picks. I wonder what NO gave up to get Ingram.
I agree that if Pouncey lives up to the hype surrounding him then he was a good pick for us. What bothers me is the amount of money and high draft picks we already have invested in our O-Line and we are still building. IMO that is troublesome but irregardless it still needs to be done. You do not ignore a problem simply because you do not want to admit you have one. I agree with you that an improved O-Line will improve the rest of the offense with it.
Pouncey probably will be a pro-bowler. Doesn't change the fact that INTERIOR lineman is terrible value at 15. I never said anything about late round OL, I said there's always very good guards at the end of the 1st, and in the 2nd and even 3rd rounds of every draft. Interior lineman, much like safeties, and now RB's just aren't good value top 15 unless it's a can't miss, future hall of fame type prospect. You just don't take guards this high unless you know they're the next Steve Hutchinson, and Pouncey isn't.
I like the pick and this instantly puts our OL back in solid form. It's not the flashiest pick but the correct one at #15 considering our needs. Mallet was a reach at #15 and for whatever reason we didn't or couldn't trade down and pick up a 2nd rd pick. They obviously want to give Henne all the help he needs to succeed, this time with no excuses. If we sign Ronnie Brown back and maybe draft a RB in the 3-4th rd we will have all the tools necessary for Henne to move forward positively.....or fail once again. Imo there shouldn't be any more problems with the production of our OL now. That said Henne has no more excuses
So we passed up on Ingram :/ I got a terrible feeling that it was a terrible decision, I believe this guy will play with a chip on his shoulder. Same frame and build as emmitt smith and hes now in the HoF just saying. Not knocking our pick as we definately need to solidify the line but i think Mark Ingram might be the gem in the draft, maybe.
Awesome, we'll probably draft him instead of getting a Speedy WR/TE. Or maybe another mediocre player from a Florida school.
Muhammad Wilkerson is good. It's amazing that at the beginning of the offseason Da'Quan Bowers was #1 on most big boards and mock drafts and he will probably fall to 2nd round...to the Patriots who probably wanted him at #28 yet traded out, got more picks, and still get their guy.
I thought Bill Parcells left? It's great that we might have fixed the O-Line [don't count your chickens before they hatch], but I can't trust Henne after his epic 2nd half collapses the past two seasons when the playoffs were on the line. We'll see.
Who's the first mediocre player from a Florida school? I'm not a fan of the Pouncey pick, but it's because it wasn't good value, and we still need playmakers, it's not because Pouncey is a mediocre player. In fact, he's a very good player, and will probably make numerous pro bowls as a guard in his career. I do agree with your premise though. We need playmakers. However, there's some very good speedy playmakers at TE in the draft like DJ Williams, Virgil Green, and Julius Thomas who can be had later in the draft as well as plenty of speedy playmaker WR's. This is also one of the deepest RB drafts in awhile. I'm pissed we don't have a 2nd rounder, but it is what it is. Now, if we pass on RB's and WR's and don't draft one of the 3 TE's I've mentioned, I will be as pissed as I've ever been at this team.
You'd think people would learn by now, the safe/conservatism is just as much Sparano/Ireland as it was Parcells and Henning.
Yeah I desperately wanted Ingram as well, though if the line is solid it makes for an easier job no matter who carries the ball. Feel sorry for my Panther fan friends, Falcons added Julio Jones and Saints got a pretty special RB with Ingram.
So trading for Brandon Marshall was safe and conservative? Giving up a big contract to Dansby was safe and conservative?
How Jake Locker went as high as he did is unbelievable. His accuracy is terrible. His decision making is terrible. His mechanics aren't very good. And he isn't the smartest guy either. Aren't all of those things required to be a good QB prospect? Seriously, I don't get it. He's athletic... That's about it.
Well I'm happy we went with Pouncey. Seems like Mallett would have been a bigger reach, but seems like Jake Locker was the Dolphins first choice at QB which I hope is wrong.
I could care less about the Pats. Nate Solder? Who gives a damn. Dolphins got a really good LG. I doubt they draft a QB early so let's see if they can get a good RB in the third and perhaps a TE in the 4th. Maybe they even go with two RBs.
Yes, signing a proven pro-bowl caliber 3-4 ILB without any off-field or injury concerns to play in a 3-4 as a ILB is safe. Marshall on the other hand, no, that wasn't safe. Everything else about this regime has been safe. Drafts. Offensive gameplans. Safe, and conservative. One trade doesn't change the fact this is a safe/conservative regime, and to their detriment might I add.
Why? Because they traded down instead of up? Why is that automatically safe? Because they chose corners instead of qbs? Oh but thats right they spent high draft picks on two qbs. One of which left everyone saying wtf, but thats not "daring". pffffft
How is this a bad pick? He can play and START at either G or C. Incognito, Long, Pouncey is not a bad nuclues of the OL at all. I wouldnt rule out us moving around on day 2.
we also picked at # 15 and don't have the luxury of using first round draft picks to develop a future Oline, too.
Is it possible they land a combo of say Ryan Williams and Shane Vereen tomorrow. Or perhaps Helu Jr. and Vereen?
I think you'll see someone better than that slip. There are a good seven RBs worth that third round spot.
IMO the next 3 RB's for us are Ryan Williams, LeShoure, and Daniel Thomas. I'm not sure the first 2 make it to us. Taiwan Jones was in Rick Gosselin's top 100, so he's a possibility in the 3rd. We had him in for 2 days.
Value is relative. If you can pick up a day one starter at a position of need, you pull the trigger because that's real value. All other ideas of draft value are essentially based on fairy tales.
Well there's a good chance these backs can beat out Lex Hilliard so the 3rd and 4th rounder being RBs would more or less be guys you should MAKE SURE to draft in fantasy leagues, especially running behind a good offensive line.
