You're just making things up now. They could have drafted Mallet if they thought QB was a bigger problem then oline. The pick reveals that the front office and coaching staff thought the bigger problem last year was the oline. You can disagree with their assessment but you can no longer disagree that that was their conclusion
Was it the smart and safe pick — probably. But I am tired of the "safe" pick. Jake Long was the "safe" pick. Atlanta took the "risk". Now Atlanta is loaded with talent and rolling the dice to go to the Super Bowl. The safe pick gets the Fins exactly where we are today — mediocre. 7-9, 8-8, 9-7, somewhere in there. Good enough to keep you interested, but not good enough to compete with New England or the Jets, and possibly soon to be passed by the Bills. The owner wanted a high powered offense - Pouncey wont help that. Ireland said they wanted to get faster - Pouncey wont help that. I really feel like Ireland / Sparano are drafting players for Gruden or Cowher to be coaching in 2012.
That's not entirely true. Rumors were that both Ponder and *gulp* Locker were on the Dolphins board ahead of Pouncey. Mallett was never in play for them.
Also the two Qbs i believe this FO wants (Dalton or Kaepernick) are still out there...[/QUOTE] come on now....do you really....really believe they will still be there when we pick in the middle of the 3rd. round?????
The FO does not value QB's in a QB driven league. Our starting QB was benched twice last season, that is the plan they are going with. Yipee!
trading into the 2nd and giving up our 1st next year would be a big mistake, reek of trying to save their jobs by mortgaging the future of the franchise, and really piss me off.
of course if the pick turned out to be the franchise qb for the next 12 years i'd reconsider my stance,,,,ha, ha!!
you can trade up into the 2nd with next years 2nd and maybe a 4th or 5th. doesnt necessarily have to be a first. Im not for trading up, im just sayng it can be done.
And which of the QBs in this year's draft is the next peyton manning? I don't think drafting the next kyle orton is more important then drafting a pro bowl guard
Just for the record, Boomer, Con and alen in the draft chat yesterday all confirmed that our prime targets were Locker and Ponder. We were NOT targeting Mallett or Dalton with that pick to begin with. So no, its just not something I am pulling out of thin air.
God help us all if that is the mindset. If this is true then hats off to you Minnesota and Tennessee for the cack block. They diverted our path to disaster.
That's just absolutely false. Why would the front office draft a 2nd round guy at 15 just because we have needs there. That exactly the types of moves that sink franchises. They got a top 20 player at a position of need. A bigger need of QB could simply not be addressed there at 15.. do not over think that
If they thought enough of Mallet they would never have taken the chance to let him slip. Teams just don't do that unless they really feel a guy may slip. Look at Henne, he was also ranked higher than they were they picked him and did Miami move a muscle to take him, nope.
I told you guys harbaugh would go to SF. I told you that the Dolphins would not take a QB.. I don't know..I guess I'm just a ****ing mystic.
confirmed? all i know is i have predicted two of the first rounders we drafted in the last four years. i had us taking pouncey and vontae. had sergio kindle last year, instead we went odrick and then misi, and bill parcellls personally admitted that adamprez was right and he was wrong about matt ryan.
