Thank you for proving the point that no center has been drafted as high as # 15 since the early 90's. BTW, that was Steve Everitt out of Michigan. There is a reason for that. Great teams don't build themselves with Centers taken in the first part of the 1st round. Scott Wells for the Packers was picked in Round 7. Patriots got Dan Koppen in round 5. Colts got Jeff Saturday as an undrafted free agent.
There is multiple sides to the story though, and you can't pick and choose like that. By that logic I could say we shouldn't draft a QB before the 6th because thats when Tom Brady went. Alex Mack has paved the way for Hillis to get on the cover of Madden, Nick Mangold helped the Jets get to the AFC Championship, Pouncey helped the Steelers get to the Super Bowl.
The Brady comparison doesn't work as there are numerous other top Qb's picked by great teams recently in the top part of round #1. Peyton Manning Matt Ryan Eli Manning There are no great teams that have selected a center at #15 or higher. Even Maurkice Pouncey, who most experts will tell you is significantly better than Mike, went at #18.
Interesting you mention Mack. Add in Joe Thomas and they have a reasonable semblance of our line. And yet they have been finishing with worse records still. QB is paramount.
I still think he'll end up as the left guard it just makes too much sense and it makes the line excellent.
this will depend on how large Incognito plays @ Center if he legitimately wins the position then he belongs there Pouncey always has the option of moving left (Puilling-Guard) having said that we need the best linesmen @ Center & LeftTackle on an elite offensive line an exceptionally athletic Center can pull too & Pouncey has plenty of experience doing exactly that... I think JohnJerry will come into his own this season as the team improves around him wouldn't rule out the acquisition of another offensive linesman during the current draft
