Mallet has been considered the most "ready to start" QB in this draft. It would still be a gamble, but in the third round, why not? What is the point of going 7-9 again? Too many wins to draft a blue chip player and it would show this team to be consistently below average -not getting better, not getting much worse. Bad, but not horrible? Is that what we want?
And with Mallett on board, for many, many more years to come. What ****ing idiots in our FO. Astonishing. It's like they're doing it on purpose. Maybe Sparano getting back at Ross lol... Has to be for this terrible draft strategy.
My dream right now is to make 2 more trades... 1. Trade down in the 4th and pick up a 5th 2. Trade back up (5th + future 5th for a late 4th) Then with our remaining picks go: 4a- DJ Williams, Virgil Green, or Julius Thomas (BPA) 4b- Robert Sands, Chimdi Chekwa, or Shareece Wright (whoever is available, if they are) 6th- Dion Lewis, Noel Devine, Derrick Locke, or Mario Fannin 7th- OL Depth 7th- STer
Seems to me that Ireland and Sparano are staying their original course of how they want to build this team. They are going to build up the line and pound the rock and Henne will throw it just enough to try to keep defenses honest. They are commited to building a run first team. It even explains the Dabol hire. For better or worse that is what we have to look forward too this season.
It appears we are set to make a serious run at Luck...Pffft! Daniel Thomas, my God, he reminds me of Jimmie Johnson (the RB). This regime cannot get fired fast enough.
Like I stated earlier in my POST! They are a laughing stock of the FRONT OFFICE =Rick 1966;1474127]We traded all that for Daniel freaking Thomas? Sounds like a waste of picks to me.[/QUOTE]
No. We traded up for another Ronnie Brown who runs more upright (will get killed) and runs with the ball loose (as if fumbles weren't enough of a problem). We gave up almost half our draft for this turd, who would have been there in the 3rd round, when it looked like we were poised to take Mallett and get ourselves a QB. But nooooooooooooo...the front office had to step on their d*^ks once again and sell the farm for a wildcat running back, again in the 2nd round. Sure, Pat White wasn't a RB...but he was brought in for the wildcat. Here I thought we were moving past the wildcat. Remember the roundtable where Ross said we were going to open up this offense and we were going to bring back the days of Marino. Since then we still have Henne at QB and we have brought in yet another running back to work in a gimmick offense. Kill me now.
The only thing positive I can think to say of Daniel THomas is that he reminds me of Eddie George, but without the big play ability.
I swear..... we have fans who have no idea who Daniel Thomas is but are complaining just to complain b/c that's what we like to do. <sigh>
All it means is Ronnie aint coming back either. Still plenty of smaller, big play backs on the board. Nothing this regime does anymore surprises me. Im used to being underwhelmed by them.
Thomas was a definate possibility in RD3 with Ridley ... i think they got vervous as the RB started going in RD 2. Don't like losing the RD 5 pick ... but snagging a RB is no surprise ... guess that leaves the RD 4 pick for a TE/WR .... wonder if Nolan is even around in the 'war' room .....
Honestly, I'm more upset with who we took than what we gave in the trade. The trade is of no significance. Just think of it as giving a 2nd, 3rd, 6th,and 7th for Marshall instead of 2 2nds. Same difference. The only thing that matters to me is who we have on our team. I don't think Daniel Thomas add the explosiveness or speed that this team needs. He will be a solid player most likely, so I'll hold my breath hoping for Bilal Powell in the later rounds.
So we took a guy who reminds of you of one of the top 20 rushers in NFL history? Not bad. Does Mike Pouncey remind you of anyone? B/c he should. Hint: he plays for the Steelers. Pro Bowler as a rookie.
Looks like Matt Forte. Mallet sure wouldve looked awesome at the end of the 2nd. In the meantime, Kendall Hunter is dropping like a stone and will end up having a Steve Slaton type impact early in his career if he gets the opportunity.
Todd...would you give up 3 draft picks for a player you know nothing about? We are not mad a bout the selection. If we had taken him in the 3rd round, ok. The fact is we moved up into the 2nd round to take a player, with Mallett still on the board, that is nothing more than what we already had in Ronnie Brown. We are not progressing as an offense, we are looking to put players in that can play Wildcat. Yeah...get real excited about that. I will let that simmer in your brain for a while. So we mortgage almost half our draft on this guy, that we know nothing about, but yet we are supposed to be happy with the pick. So instead of betting the farm to move up in the first to get Gabbert. Or instead of trading down to stockpile and build our base, we bet the farm on a guy who has only played RB for 2 seasons...a guy who has fumble issues...and a guy to play in our gimmick offense. Wonderful.
Mallet was hired to sit the bench for the next 3-4 years, which I believe he's qualified to do. If he'd gone to a team that was actually going to put him on the field, you might have a point.
GM, Pouncey is nowhere near as good as his brother in Pitt. First thing that jumps out at me when you watch Thomas is how upright he runs. Hes going to be banged up alot in the NFL if that continues. Im really not a fan of backs that are 6'2, way too much target. I much prefer a guy whos 5'10 and is nothing but knees and shoulders when you go to hit him. I see a bit of Eddie George / Larry Johnson when I watch him run. If the plan is too find a smaller, big play back Im fine with it. J Rogers please.
I am not even mad about Mallet still being on the board. In fact I winced when I saw the trade come in with Washington (who I though was going to take Mallet) because I was worried we were going to draft Mallet. With the state of our offense, I saw drafting Mallet as a lateral move instead of an upgrade. It didn't make sense for us to take him in my opinion.
I truly appreciate every single time you post here. Your opinion means a lot. Coming from the background you have being a jets fan, I am sure that the rest of the people her appreciate your opinion on every post you make as much as I do. I want to personally thank you for your input.
Yeah, because if he thinks it's a bad decision, it's just because he didn't UNDERSTAND it. Jesus, could you get any more condescending?
