Today's picks: No real rumors, I think we have the 14th pick on day #3 so we will not have to wait as long as we have been waiting for a selection.
I suspect they will at least half try to keep Ronnie B as a hedge to DThomas as they know what they have in him and his contract demand should not be onerous.
I wouldn't be against trading future picks for another couple picks this year... Maybe next year's 3rd + this year's 7th for a mid 4th and mid 5th. I would do that if we waited til around the 10th pick and still have guys like DJ Williams, Jacquizz Rodgers, Taiwan Jones, Edmund Gates, Virgil Green, Sam Acho, etc...available. That way we would go with something like DJ Williams + Gates and try to get a speed back in the 5th. 4a- DJ Williams 4b- Edmund Gates or Aldrick Robinson 5- Dion Lewis I would be ecstatic.
Well consider: DJ Williams would play maybe 200 snaps, maybe, and is not a blocker, imho we pass Gates? What about Marlon Moore and Rob Wallace? Lewis in the 5th? That is a touch high as all he is, a Rb, limits his value, if he could handle kickoffs and punts his value would grow. How about: -Chris Carter, we need a pure passrusher -Andre Smith, Te with great tools and a mashing blocker -Kyle Bolling G, we are paper thin at LG -D'rrel Scott, Mario Fannin, Deleone Carter, all 3 running backs have home run speed. -Nate Irving ILB could replace Crowder
DJ Williams would see a ton of time on the field. He's a guy that has improved tremendously in blocking over the past couple of seasons and we would run more 2 TE sets, given that we would actually have 2 TEs on the field that have the ability to run routes and catch a ball. He is also a guy that can be split out wide in some formations. He brings us talent and new looks on offense. Wallace and Moore are awful. No other way of putting it. I've seen some videos of Gates and he seems to be a perfect fit as a #4 receiver. Then, we can either bring in another receiver in FA or let Moore/Wallace compete for a job. Remember how terrible our offense was when Hartline and Marshall were out? I think one week our activated receivers were: Bess, Wallace, Moore, Pruitt or something. He will also provide us with legit deep threat ability. Dion Lewis' stock is only low because of how thick and deep this RB class is. He can play. In 2009, when he really carried the load, he had 325 carries, with a 5.5 AVG, and 17 TD. Plus, he's a guy that can catch passes out of the backfield. I wouldn't mind reaching for him in the 5th. I like Chris Carter, but you talked about DJ Williams only getting 200 snaps. How many do you think Carter would get? He would be behind Wake, Misi, and Ike. I don't like Boling or Smith. I like those RBs and if we don't address one in the 4th (or 5th) then I hope we grab one of them in the 7th.
Pads, agree that we want another SOLB, but doubt we pick one in RD 4 ... will be more like McCoy last year in RD 6/7 ... there isn't one with any real 'speed' left to take. IF we did go this route in RD 4, it'd be for a guy like Elmore or Romeus -- big, strong SOLB ... have to believe RD 4 will be WR/S/RB .... since our guys are still on the board with Gates, Robinson, Moore at WR - Sands at S - Helu at RB ... then there is also Thomas at TE (but i think we'll roll the dice to RD 6 with him) ....
Paid for, fast, learned the NFL game in 2010 a rook Wr starts over at -0-. That is why I hope people are not holding their breath for more Wr's, they kept Anthony Armstrong for 2yrs, gave up on him and he averaged a whopping 19.8 ypc in 2010, do you really think that went unnoticed down in Davie?
My mistake. Another? We don't have one as it is, the #3 te is a undersized tackle, we do not have one. Moore had the longest reception for a TD among Dolphins Wr last yr and he is paid for.
Pads, regarding WRs ... believe it or not - i am most keen on seeing a healthy Foster on the field this year (i wanted him in the mid-rounds in '09) .... we also added Carter (an unknown arena dude) -- but most of all, if Pruitt is ever going to do anything - this year is it ....... what we do need potentially from the draft is the returner ... which is where we 'seemed' to focus on our WR workouts for mid to late round WRs.
I think if DJ Williams falls to around the 125 range, we have to make a move. I am very surprised he hasn't gone yet, with all the other TEs that have gone already. We need him or Virgil Green imo.
Thomas was just taken by Denver. I really think we need to make a move up to get DJ Williams or Virgil Green. edit: I think Carolina is going with DJ right here.
Virgil Green still available. I don't really see many teams needing a TE ahead of us, except for the Bills, Panthers, and maybe Seahawks. I'd like to trade up to the 167 spot with the Bengals, while keeping our 179th. That way, we could try to go Virgil Green + a COP back (Noel, Locke, Grigsby, Fannin)
