You mean that one drive in Tenn after he almost threw that INT? Or the Bears game? Or that one TD in the Pats game? I can charge a turd with as much electricity as I want but that energy did nothing to change it from being a turd.
IMO it was a horribly over rated QB class so regardless of whether the coaching staff could develop a QB, one shouldn't have been taken.
Giving Henne some new blood and support might go a long way......Remember Henning GONE. Development begins.
all i want is no excuses next year Henne isn't young anymore, he has plenty of weapons, solid offensive line, and an overhaul of offensive coaching if we don't it done, no excuses i think Henne will show the dramatic improvement we all hoped for last season
That's great and all, but faced with the choice of watching a lumbering turd on ludes, or a turd who at least entertains me, I'll choose the latter. Henne offers little (if anything) more than Thigpen does, if we're being honest about it.
If the new OC can maybe prop Henne up in a corner of the locker room before the game and pour some Jolt cola and no-doz down his throat, then we've got a chance.
I don't mind personally. This was an awful, and I mean awful QB class. Would of loved Ryan Mallett, but that's the only QB I wanted other than Newton, who was a pipe dream.
uhhhhh........ why can they not be one in the same? just sayin. why would you want to watch turds in the first place? I finish my coffee around 9. You should stop by around 9:30. I'm only kidding. make it 9:15
Not on the Dolphins roster any longer. He will not be resigned, or it would have been done before the lockout. Where will Branstatter be in all of this ? Is he even worth a look ?
I would seriously consider giving Tarvaris Jackson a look in FA. He's still fairly young, has a great arm, has produced on the NFL level and even though he had two poor games this year the Vikings were in shambles. He's also an inexpensive QB for obvious reasons. Jackson the last time we saw him in a full year was a 90+ rating QB. I think the West Coast offense was never really what the guy should have been running in the first place. I think in something more akin to what Daboll will run this year Jackson would have an advantage over Henne. Not saying he'll be much but he's got more of a chance of ever being competition for Henne than Thigpen does.
I was pissed that no QB was taken at first. When the Fins traded up. I was sure it was for Mallett, not Thomas. But after calming down a bit, I figure that lots of those QB pics were reaches. Hell, I would not be shocked if this class ultimately compares to 1993, with only 1 of the QB's being decent (McNabb) the rest being busts. Everyone kept saying the same thing "there is no true franchise QB in this class". Instead of reaching, overpaying, and possibly being in the same boat three years down the line, the Fins opted to get players that will improve the entire ball club, and make the team better. Now they can go out and get a FA QB, Maybe Hasselback, possibly a QB that was once highly regarded, but did not work out - Brady Quinn or Matt Leinart, and possibly sign a rookie Free Agent that was not drafted - Pat Devlin, Josh Portis or Jeff Van Camp. (If I were a betting man I would say Brady Quinn and Jeff Van Camp are on the Fins radar.) It makes sense that they decided to not reach and see if they can improve the entire team around Henne and give him one last shot to be the man. If the Fins go 10-6 or better with Henne at the helm, you wont hear anymore rumblings of a need at QB. I still cannot say that I am happy that QB was neglected, but overall I understand what the FO & the staff were attempting to do with the draft, I think the ball club has improved and I like the possibilities they opened up with the players they drafted.
alex smith, jamarcus russel, matt leinart, vince young, david carr, carson palmer, matt hasselbeck on the cheap any would be worth a shot @ taking to make the miami stable more competitive somewhere out there is another QB awaiting a second chance and Henne too! competition is the elixir of success. let them compete.
I would have been happy with drafting Mallett. The fact we didn't doesn't bother me much, because I always knew there was a possibility his off field issues were a deal breaker. Also, the fact that 7 QBs were drafted in the first two rounds has a significant affect on the FA market. Considering we have one QB under contract, we obviously have to sign someone. If I had to wager, I would say Vince Young or Carson Palmer.
If Thigpen is better, why isn't he starting? Israeli conspiracy? How entertaining was that Bears game btw?
Time will tell I guess. It looks like Henne will get another shot under center unless we bring in a vet and he gets smoked by him in camp. I think as of right now Henne is still thier guy. What puzzles me is not taking a QB in the draft though. Are we going to resign thigpen and a vet or are we going to go into the season with only two QB's on our roster? I think they should of taken Mallet even though we need RB's too. QB is more impoortant and signing Mallet at the bottom of the 2nd or top of the 3rd meant we would sign him at a reasonable cost. Maybe he pans out and maybe he does not but what harm was there in adding him to our roster other then passing on the RB. I think when you evaluate things from a risk/ reward type perspective you have to say they blew it. They are drafting to make immeadiate improvements but going into a season with only 2 QB's does not seem like a smart idea. I hope they at least resign thigpen.
we didn't have a 2nd rounder and traded up (sacrificed our 5th) to move up for a much needed RB, so we had to make all of our picks count..... meaning-- they needed to be guys who could contribute rather than watching from the sideline. A 4th, 6th, or 7th round QB won't even be seeing special teams play, which makes it even worse b/c we need help there, too. You can basically assume that our "drafted" QB is Tom Brandstater if he's on the roster come camp....... and we'll find a vet who can step in without undergoing costly developmental woes which could jeopardize our season. I think Ireland & Fasano are serious about being competitive this year, and IMO they have every right to believe so. We were a few key offensive additions away, and they nailed those in the draft better than I could've dreamed up. There's no scenario where I thought we'd be sitting at rounds 4 & 6 with Gates & Clay still on the board after taking the best interior Olineman & the most versatile RB in the draft. And we still have FA left to add another serious contributor.
i agree, w the qb class n the cumulative issues on O last yr ? existed as why pass game was bad. this yr henne has to compete for it n other issues addressed, no excuses, no b*tching, get it done or get out of the way
This regime has hitched their job security to Chad Henne. The good thing about that is, with their jobs on the line, you can be reasonably sure they felt he gives them the best chance to win. The bad thing will be if they avoided a guy who might have been better in the long run only because Henne knows the offense better and only gives them a better chance in the near future. If Dalton, Kaepernick (sp?), or Mallet go on to have success in the NFL, moreso than Henne we will just have to add them to QBs we've thumbed our nose at while floundering in mediocrity in a passing league. And if this regime gives up any of next year's draft picks higher than a 3rd rounder to bring in one of these vets, I'll be pretty pissed off. None of them are long term answers at the position, IMO.
I believe Kaepernick is going to be a great QB, the endorsement from Harbaugh only makes me feel worse that we didn't get him..so I always think its a bad move when you have a chance to get someone great and you don't.
Ignored is a strong word. Mostly because it wasn't ignored. Miami had two quarterbacks at the top of their draft. Also quarterbacks after the early second rounders, only one that might be worth it was Ryan Mallett and he was only worth a third
