Would you give up 6 wins to be the Patriots?

While the FO may not have drafted the position we wanted, they actually HAVE drafted fairly well the past few years and we now have all the necessary pieces to surround a young QB.

We are the OPPOSITE of most bad teams that get a #1 pick and the QB comes in with no help. We've built a VERY good supporting cast; good young defense, #1WR, All-Pro LT, probably Pro Bowl type Center, potentially a pretty good RB. Those are the exact things a young QB needs.

Next year the team that gets the #1 pick will probably have 2-4 wins. The Dolphins, at best, will have 9 wins (more likely 7/8). Most people can't stand the thought of not playing to win. I'm not talking about throwing games per se. More, playing young guys and when top players have injuries we let them sit and fully heal.

How much are you going to really enjoy those extra 6 wins? The difference between 2 wins and 8 is the difference between Henne and Luck. Remember what we have to support Luck; our defense, Marshall, Long, Pouncey and next years picks, we would be set to compete for actual championships for the next decade and a half.

I would be DISGUSTED if this team tanked the season for a shot at Luck. they should go out there and compete as hard as they can each and every play.

That being said, I don't see us going anywhere with Henne or Sparano for that matter. If we lose, we lose (and honestly, we most likely will lose a lot unfortunately). But they shouldn't intentionally lose.

I'd rather not get the feeling of knowing you're gonna lose before the game begins. That was my feeling during the saban-cam years. And it sucked. f that.

I respect that opinion; It's based on a strong belief in the purity of sport.

I tend to see things more jaded as pure dollars/cents. I think long term Ross would make more money and the franchise would have more support by choosing to not fully compete this year, sad but true.

First of all if I wanted to be a Pats fan I surely wouldn't be typing this as we speak. So no won't give up anything!

As for laying down to be in a position to draft Andrew Luck is not an option! Now having said that, keeping the 2011 schedule and this offensive coaching staff in mind, I see no reason to believe that we won't have a great chance to win the Luck Lottery!

While you believe we will be in the 7-9 win range my thoughts on that are that we will, in fact, be lucky to win 4 games this season. And IMVHO we will start that run with 2 home losses, to the Pats and the Texans (our unbeaten foe).

BTW I do not say this lightly or with glee, only with great sadness!

It's a pipe dream...This team is too loaded with young talent and Henne should be markedly better IMO.

But football fans have short attention spans and a poor 2011 showing could slide him down a smidge (or Killer could plant something on him).

you're giving opposing offenses too much credit, and our very respectable defense too little.

We're going to be in every game we play and with this draft our offense should be better.

Also, what do you mean "keeping this offensive coaching staff in mind" its a new staff...

You're over valuing Luck. Hes a great prospect...right now...but this is college football we're talking about. A year ago Jake Locker was a consensus #1 prospect then he went back to school can lost millions falling. Brian Brohm went from guaranteed first round to late 2nd by coming back another year. Matt Leinart did the same thing.

I would NEVER go back for my senior year if i was a QB in this day and age. I don't think there has been a case where the QB didn't end up hurting his stock.

Matt Barkeley and Landry Jones could both push Luck more than most people are letting on because Luck is the bigger name right now. Throughout next season, especially if Stanford starts to suck without their HC anymore, Lucks name could disappear.

I can't disagree with you on that... but they can't just go out there and lose intentionally. If it came to light we were doing that, there is no way I could ever root for this team ever again.

The Patriots actually have not drafted that well as of late. They did draft really well between 2000-2005 when they were winning SB's, but during the past five years or so I believe they have just 11 starters out of the 50 players they have drafted...and look at who they have lost through trades or retirement.....Bruschi, Vrabel, Seymour, Law, Harrison, Vinatieri....all key pieces to their SB teams. Brady and Wilfork along with some lineman are about all that is left. Many of their recent picks have been total busts. The media always gushes over how the Pats always get multiple picks....but look at how many guys they have passed over like Clay Matthews by trading down. Instead of getting a top blue chip pick, they trade down for two average players, or set aside picks for future years. The Pats have had more success than the Phins in drafting players, but the last couple years they have lost in the first round of the playoffs.

If you start intentionally losing games I think it could create a credibility gap and possibly some leadership issues between the coaching staff and the players. That could last well into the next season.

Of course this is really early to discuss it we haven't even play a preseason game yet. So lets just hope this isn't an issue because we are in the playoffs :)

I feel the exact same way. I would rather have only 2 wins and get the #1 pick rather than get 7 wins, another average crappy year, and get the #15 pick again. Going nowhere.

It's not tanking if you just play your young guys and use this season to experiment. Basically, use all 16 games as a Pre-season game. If any guys get hurt, immediately send them to rest and don't ask them to come back at all. No rush. Play all young guys, etc....

Tell Chad Henne to let it fly. Don't worry about INT's or anything. Try to be the best QB you can be, no pressure on you Chad! Just let it fly and try to improve. Win or lose, it doesn't matter and we can truly see what Chad can do.

hopefully we lose, then we get the #1 pick QB, and go on to have 15 years of championship contention and hopefully some Super Bowl rings.

You can't say you wouldn't want that. Some of you have no idea what it means to sacrifice for the future.

I've been thinking the same thoughts. Christ as a fan we've been beaten down with rebuilding going on 10 years now and with a shot to get a franchise QB in next years draft makes it beyond exceptable to continue the rebuilding process...whats one more year especially considering this team is may have just reach mediocre. Lets not forget that the opponents also were in the draft and likely aren't getting weaker.

    Bonus in our favor

Sparano, IMO piss poor evaluator and unable to prepare properly for games and make game time adjustments when needed. He's old school and stuck in it as he himself admits, and he's still trying to fix the OL, special teams was a disaster all year (2 years) and how about having some level of a two minute drill which we never had through out the season......Coach S. = very nice guy very inadequate HC

Henne: still in the picture to be considered as a starter in my book is ridiculous. The guys accuracy, overthrows, interceptions, lack of reads, comfort in the pocket, seeming to play with little to no emotion, beyond terrible. The guy needs 3 promotions to be a 3rd stringer.
I don't know what it is but it seems as if the longer time went on the more people began to forget just how bad he was. And I must be honest that I had thought after his first playing season that he was our guy.

I'd love and could live with another crappy year of rebuilding to get a shot at from what I heard more than one very good QB in next years draft......reality were not going anywhere this year........

If we don't blow the bank for a Vet QB that will be extremely telling ....but I can't see this staff not doing everything in their power to get one due to the fact that their Jobs are on the line...I hope they don't and we again become a team to reckon with and be proud...................Go Fins

You could probably put Sam Bradford in there too but really it SHOULD have hurt his draft status. How he managed to go #1 after a shoulder injury in his senior season is still nothing short of amazing.

This thread was made in April/May.

Nice to read some of the replies in here.

Like it or not, this is happening. Dolphins are one of the worst teams in football and will be in contention to draft Andrew Luck.
