I know this has been talked about, but I forget what really went down and the overall opinion of the board.

I just heard him say on the radio that the miami dolphins turned him down..

I guess that was a parcells move..

how does that make ya'll feel?

Parcells never would've hired a guy like him. Too much personality. Only the Tuna is allowed to have personality

Pissed off, to be honest. Rex is a cool dude, and by the way, one hell of a HC. The only negative about him is his current occupational status.

Parcells recommended Ryan to other teams and has said how high he thought of Rex and how much of a football guy Ryan was.

Parcells was just in love with his butterball OL coach from Dallas who gets off on playing small ball and kicking FG's...This was an obvious mistake by Bill.

But the guy can coach. But I'm still glad we don't have him.

Not hold up a minute, Rexxy DID inherit a solid corps at 4 of the 5 key positions, LT/CB/RB/Wr and C from Mangini add in they do not mind trading future picks for current players and they have made 2 runs, but how long can they not develop players and have an Oline that has only lost 1 starter to injuries in the last 3 yrs?

Averages say that will catch up to them, Sparano had to start from scratch, there was no Ferguson at LT when he got here.

i don't know .... what i can say is i think we'll find out a lot about Fat Tony and his ability to coach this year. No Parcells threats or mandates, no antiquated OC ... so it's all him. No excuses ... so bring it Fat Man ... show us what you can do as a coach. Bring double digit wins or go home ....

Why the hate about our coach, wtf did he ever do to deserve that..The dude cares about our team, hes proud to rock the aqua, and he loves his players....The man out of respect for the guy that hired him, slept with a dead fish for a year, was willing to take the hit and not call him out..

I respect our coach, I think what he stands for and how he communicates with his players, he's gonna come out on top in the long run..and poop on ya'll that hate on him.

Oh just stop with the excuses........ Parcells sent them the better coach, period.

Ryan will be around for awhile, whereas your boy the fist pumper is more than likely in his final season as a NFL head coach.

I love the fins too, maybe I should be their head coach.

But seriously there are legitimate reasons to doubt Tony Sparano. It's sad that the counter to that is basically 'haters gonna hate.' Give us legitimate reasons why you believe he can coach offense to an even average NFL level. You know outside of him martyring himself and his career for Dan Henning and Bill Parcells. Tell us why the team quit on him at the end of last season. There's more too it than being passionate and likeable. You need ability. It's not like we're going to be angry if he succeeds. I'll be happy as hell. But I'm not going to sit here right now and lie about what we've seen from him so far. He's got some work to do. It's not impossible. People can get better at things.

If you guys are being honest with yourselves you would realize that the only reason we hate Rex Ryan is the football team he coaches. I hate him too. But he's a much better coach than Tony Sparano, IMHO, and if he were our head coach I'd probably be thrilled by his antics. Just being honest.

Parcells wanted a puppet coach he could puppeteer with a hand up his ***, and that's what we're left with. I hope Tony Sparano can become his own man and learn how to coach in today's NFL and not the 1985 NFL where Parcells style would thrive.

If he did all the same stupid **** he does in NY in MIA, it'd really hurt my appreciation for the team.

He's a much better coach than Sparano, but I'm not nearly as embaressed w/Sparano (which says a lot).

I can't root for a clown like Rex.

those were just things I noted why we shouldn't be calling him stupid disrespectful names, if you dont think he can coach than ok, but ''fat tony'' butterball'' etc, I dont think he deserves that..

He's got 1 year to show if he can get thru more adversity than Ive seen a coach have to get thru in a while...you wanna talk about pressure, if he happens to unite this team and gets them playing their best, than from what this guy has been thru, people are gonna have to respect that..I think he's handled himself well thru all the mess..

    I LoLd.

But anyone who says they don't want a coach who has taken his team - with an inconsistent QB - to the AFC Championship in back-to-back years is just kidding themselves. I have no doubt that if Rex coached for any team besides the Jets he'd be well-liked by Dolphin fans. If he was our head coach instead of Tony he'd be beloved.

He's the type of coach that guys go out and kill themselves for. You can see that in the Jets play (especially defensively) when the game is on the line.

I'd take him as our coach in a heartbeat. We're just jealous that we're stuck with Sparano. (Who, incidentally, isn't a bad coach in his own right ... it was just a couple years ago he was in the running for Coach of the Year).

Not true AT ALL. I LOVE the Dolphins, and I love supporting their players and coaches. That said I wouldn't root for Mike Vick if he were on our team, or TO, or Rex Ryan as a HC.

Personally I think Rex Ryan is an overrated coach. He gambles and has landed on his feet a lot, but as other are pointing out, he's been mortgaging his future when he goes all in. He buys players rather than builds them up. He can't keep a team together the way he's currently operating, and he'll have a REALLY hard time building it back up. I'm fine with him being on the JETS. Short sighted people coaching our division rivals is a good thing. This is the same reason I didn't want Cam Newton. For all his potential and success I think he's a dick. I think he feels entitled to have success, and that he won the championship because a crooked system couldn't look past the dollars signs. He's as slimy as his HC Chizik, and I certainly don't want to have to root for the guy if he was a phin. Best he just stays away IMO.

Now, back on to Rex Ryan as a person....I don't like the guy. I don't like guys who run their mouths off and can't back it up (Crowder). He hasn't earned **** in this league yet he walks around like he's a legend. He's boastful, doesn't give his opponents the credit they deserve, and is an all out ***. I think he's full of ****, and if he were our coach I'd be embarrassed and holding my tongue until we changed regimes again.

I hate Bellicheat but I respect the hell out of him and I could rap with him as a person if he were to have coached the Dolphins. But not Rexy..that guys a ***** and deserves every ounce of failure that's coming his way.

For all his faults I still like Sparano. I sometimes wonder if he's smart enough to lead this team to the promised land, but he's a stand up guy. He gets up early, shuts his mouth, puts his head down, and grinds away. He doesn't act like he's entitled to it, and seems to value ever day as our HC. He's a guy that I can FULLY support as long as he's our head coach. I may disagree with some of his philosophies, but as a person he's easy to root for. I too think he has a shot of turning the corner this year....the ball bounces our way a few times last year and we're in the playoff's. The ball bounced Rex's way every play last year and he still fell short of the super bowl.

Honestly I'd take Sparano any day.

Disagree like crazy. I don't like Rex and WOULD take Sparano over him. Honestly I'm not jealous of the Jets, not one bit. I honestly wouldn't WANT to be the Jets. Winning isn't everything. I'd rather lose with class than win as a jackass. There's compromise's I'd be willing to make to see a guy on my team, but Rex Ryan is WAAAAY to far across that line for my taste.

You know I have a couple friends who are jets fans that are starting to tire of Rex a little bit. His clock management is pretty awful. All of the great players on his team are vets, he hasn't brought in good young talent yet. He does create a lot of unneeded attention in the media and that gets old eventually. Getting to back-to-back AFC championship games is fantastic but some of the jets fans i know are starting to think they hit their peak. Rex Ryan might find himself in the category of the Bills, Eagles, and Chargers teams that got very close but never got it.

My only argument against Ryan is that it's easy to be a coach when everything's going well. Part of that is because of his coaching, i know, but honestly the Jets have been one of the luckiest teams i've ever seen under the man.

-The Broncos DB commiting PI on a hopeless 4th and forever throw in the last drive to give the jets another chance.
-Beating Jason Allen silly as a dolphin, then somehow hes matched up again Braylon again as a Texan a couple weeks later right at the end of the game to lose it for Houston as well. Ridiculous.
    - Eric Mangini giving one last gift to NY by trading CLE out of their pick so NY could get sanchez for next to nothing.
-Fire sale trade value for santonio holmes, one of the best wr's in the league.

Honestly, when the Jets failed to stop Roethlisberger on that last drive in the playoffs, Ryan looked absolutely shocked because it was the first time something miraculous didn't come along to win the game for the Jets. I can't tell you how good of a coach Ryan is, i haven't had to see him adapt to something not going to plan yet.

Tony isn't fat anymore. He lost a lot of weight before last season. Didn't you see the difference? Some announcers were talking about how he lost weight the old fashioned way. He worked out and dieted. Rex lost weight the lazy man's way. Lap band surgery. If you couldn't see the marked difference between the 2010 Tony and the pre-2010 Tony, you were not really paying attention.

Yea, I remember reading SF had $20-25 mil less to spend in FA bc of that signing. I'm not sure how that works or if it was absolutely true either.
