They couldn't give the poor bastard the joy while he was still alive? They've known for months he was sick again.

He's probably the most beloved Dolphin there ever was....... he WAS the Miami Dolphins. He's belonged up there for over a decade..

They should have waited to do it at the 1st game. Another mistake by this FO. Instead of a few thousand it would have been 10's of thousands celebrating his life, and it might have possibly made ESPN's halftime showing the whole country how much we loved Jim. What was the rush to do it now ?

Lots of criticism for a very good move by this team.

Nobody loved the Miami Dolphins more than Jim Mandich. And nobody loved Jim Mandich more than the MIAMI DOLPHINS!

Despite what may take place on the field or in the offseason, this has always been a first class organization. I can tell you that firsthand. First Freaking Class. They honor and incorporate their alumni like few other teams do.

IMO we shouldn't be looking for fault in something done purely out of LOVE, RESPECT and ADMIRATION. Nobody has been disrespected. I'm not going to debate the merits of life vs posthumous. But at least now there is no pity involved. We all loved the man. How could you have not felt that emotion if this honor was bestowed while he was sick? Jim would have hated that. And might have even felt it was because he was sick.

Don't worry, This won't be the last time we honor Mad Dog. It's not an either/or proposition. This was the ultimate display of appreciation the team can give. They've immortalized him. I think this was the PERFECT time to do it. This event was solely to celebrate the man's life. Perfect cherry on top.

The Dolphins have already begun showing the world what Jim meant to us by having Sam Madison speak about him at the podium before announcing our pick in the second round. Sam made the pick in his honor. It was on NFLN and I assume it was on ESPN as well.

You know, it's really gonna hit me when I tune into the radio broadcast of the first preseason game. I think it will be emotional for everybody involved.

In fact, I make a move to have the "fist pumps" button replaced with an "Alllrrigghhttt Miiiiammmi ! " button on this forum ??

Muck I'm not that upset about it, but if they don't do something during the season (and that 1st game should be the one) I will think this FO once again has fumbled the ball.

I feel so blessed to be able to meet him and be involved with his care when I was rotating at Sylvester at UM, even though it wasn't the best of circumstances. He is such a nice guy. He put on an amazing fight against a type of cancer that the survival rate is <5% (less than 6 months duration). I have to say that when I first read that he passed away, it hit me much harder than it expected.

You're jumping the gun to continue sticking knives into the organization because you're mad at them.

This is cleary a classy move by the Dolphins, and I'm willing to bet that this is only the beginning....

Mandich supports Chad Henne; he's a traitor; there's no way he should be inducted in the ring of honor. blahhhh.

I hope Mandich is right about Henne.

DD, while there are some who hope Henne becomes good, there are some who actively hope for his failure. I just can't get behind that. There's irrationality on both sides, I agree. But hopeless negativity always supersedes hopeless optimism in contempt.

I do not agree with any of the suck for Luck crowd. Plus, even if Henne does not improve, I do not think he was bad enough last season to send this team to 1-15.

In the context of Jim Mandich's induction to the Ring of Honor, I don't give a flying **** about Henne and it's too bad that moronic news article on the Mad Dog's "dying declaration" about Henne gets to share the headline.

This team needs to regain its soul. It needs to regain its self-respect, its dignity—and its good, human common sense.

If Shula were in charge you can bet the team wouldn't have waited until Mandich died to induct him to the Ring of Honor; especially not since everyone has known about Mandich's fight with cancer for a year or so, and especially since they knew he was sick again for months now.

How Jim Mandich would have swollen with pride to stand and accept this great honor from the team to which he devoted his adult professional life; what joy it would have given him while he was alive.

Which, as we know was until just last week.

This Dolphins administration had all the time necessary to make this happen during Mandich's time with us on this mortal coil. They didn't.

Shame on them; and I sincerely look forward to a time when this organization can stop acting like some unholy combination black bag government agency/faceless, heartless corporate "entity" and be the team that it once was, the one I grew up with: a team which belonged to the fans; a team with a real, honest human face.

A team that thinks of things—important things—and acts before it's too late.
