With about 30 players, he said our name right after new orleans as one of few teams with such a high rate of participation...He also said that most teams are not close in this manner.

This is what I love to hear, this is why some might be underrating our team, and our coaches ability to demand respect..

Unofficial "Team" workouts (as in workouts organized by the players themselves).

Also said MIAMI may enter the Kolb sweepstakes.

I doubt this has any legs as Philly would want a 1st rounder, and I dont think we are THAT stupid. Atleast I dont think we are??

It's a no-lose for Ireland; if he does it and it doesn't work out, he was going to be out anyway for not acquiring a better QB than Henne; either way in this scenario: not his 1st round draft pick anyway. It would be the next administration's problem.

If he does it and Kolb turns into our franchise guy, no one will care what price he paid.

30 is seriously one of the highest in the league? What is the other 50+% doing?

I don't think our team had thirty (I've never seen anything saying we were that high at least). Atlanta and New Orleans are the only two I've read that have got close to 30 at any one time.

The other 50% are probably working out on their own (if at all) though. I'm not sure how many people we have under contract, but I'd assume guys who are looking at FA (whether UFA or RFA) aren't going to be working out with the rest of the guys.

Miami's had between 23 and 28 that's been reported, but it's not like the media is hanging around for every one of them. Especially since Jake Long made it one of the top rules that no one talks to the media at them.

Big Jake is the Luca Brasi of the Sparanophins.

FWIW, as long as they are not doing the usual power lifting I'm cool with it, I've felt for awhile that maybe fmr Strength Coach Thomas was overlooking the effect powerlifting to often can have on joints and tendons, there is a fine line between productive, and destructive work in that area.

The #1 thing with heavy deads, squats, etc, is don't do it too often. I remember reading about the great powerlifter Paul Brodeur. He could squat 1,000 lbs and he weighed 320 lbs. His squat routine was 1 set to failure once a week. I believe he kept his reps under 10, and adjusted his lifted weight accordingly.
The point being, when one is pushing the envelope on weight, doing squats, deads, cleans, etc, the worst thing you can do is, do the lifts too frequently. If you try doing high reps less weight as a fill in between your heavy squat, deadlift days, you are just cutting into your recovery time.

The latest report I just read has Schefter claiming that Kolb will very likely end up in NFC West, likely Arizona.
Then he goes on to make some stupid claim that the Cardinals will be back to the level they were when they had Kurt Warner.

With our luck Kolb would be the next Jamarcus Russell and our pick would be the # 1 pick, which Philly will take Andrew Luck with.

Very encouraging. The phins may be flying under the radar but our team unity is obvious. Some of the guys on the team have been playing together for 4+ years now.

From what I've heard, we were prepared to use our first this year for Christian Ponder. IMO, that is much more ******ed than giving a 1st for Kolb. Look what the Falcons gave for Coolio Jones. The Dolphins haven't used a first round pick on a quarterback since Dan Marino. I would hardly call them stupid for doing it now, considering it has been the single most contributing factor to the lack of success since Marino retired. The Packers spent a first round pick on a quarterback and won a Super Bowl with him before Favre even retired. Damn they were stupid.

Incase you missed it Gish, I didn't say using a 1st rounder on a QB is stupid.

I said using a 1st rounder on Kevin Kolb was stupid.

I'll bet u a pap that Ponder ends up being better than Kevin Kolb.

he is a matchup nightmare. he brings versatility. he is a rare specimen being able to carry the ball the way he does, while also having the build and skills to be a major weapon in the passing game. oh, and he is tough to bring down.

oh, and he has the attitude of a leader.

There isn't a problem using a first round pick on a quarterback. The question is what quarterback is worth a 1st round pick. Kolb not
We could give up a first round pick for orton worth it? not.
First round pick for Tom Brady, sure.
    So the generalization doesn't work

Actually it is a lose for Ireland.
If he gets canned from Miami his likelihood of getting another GM job will be based on all his choices.
Pissing away a 1st round pick for AJ Feely #2 will bite him on the ***. I wouldn't hire him if that is his last big move for his previous team.

I see what your saying, but I think it shows more respect for Jake Long. The Saints and Dolphins are the two teams with the highest participation right? The reports I have seen have the Saints practices being lead by Brees, and the Dolphins by Long. Brees is the epitome of a leader in the NFL, and Long getting a similar response from his teammates is incredible. Remember, they have no contact with Tony, so that’s all Jake. Otherwise, teams like the Patriots, or the Steelers would be leading. I doubt there are two more respected head coaches.

Strange how the guy who pissed away a #2 on Feely went on to so far have a fairly long career as GM in Minny.

As much as I don't want to see us give up a high draft pick for Kolb, he is not AJ Feeley #2, other than he is with Philly. Kolb has shown a lot more productivity throughout his college career and short stint in Philly than Feeley did in his college career and time in Philly before we traded for him. Kolb is also a better athlete than Feeley was/is.

If Feeley was worth a 2, highly debatable, in comparison Kolb would be worth a 1st, and someone will probably pay it for him but it won't be us.

Remember those stats mentioned a lot a couple of years ago, how no QB taken in the first 2 rounds, that had a 60% + completion pct and over 40 college starts, ever turned out to be a bust? If Kolb doesn't become a successful starter somewhere, he'll be the first such QB to break that trend.
