Team on the Rise: Buffalo Bills Machiavelli took over the Bills with the bulk of free agency already concluded, but somehow managed to build some of the best trenches in the GML anyway. Team Built for Now: Philadelphia Eagles A QB at the height of his game, fantasy football receivers, and a reloaded defense. They either win it all immediately or fade away. Free Agent Steal of the Year: Vernon Carey, $1,100,000, San Francisco 49ers How the hell did this happen? Carey is worth four times this amount. Draft Steal of the Year: Cameron Heyward at 2.43, Pittsburgh Steelers How the hell did this happen? (Deja vu!) Heyward is a top 20 talent, and he falls all the way to 43? Ridiculous. Trade of the Year: Pittsburgh Steelers send Ben Roethlisberger, Troy Polamalu, and Mike Wallace to the Atlanta Falcons for Matt Ryan, Sam Baker, Dunta Robinson, and 4.123 It’s not every day a team dismantles its dynasty for a bunch of downgrades. Atlanta completely fleeced Pittsburgh. Best in Trades: UCFinfan86 (Atlanta Falcons) Yes, the above trade was so lopsided that UCF landed on the top of my best in trades list. Best in Free Agency: GridIronKing34 (Denver Broncos) Addressed needs, stayed within budget, and landed several of my favorite players (including Barrett Ruud). Well done. Best in Draft: Vengeful Odin (Kansas City Chiefs) Value, value, and more value. We should all draft as well as Odin did this year. Feud of the Year: Skeet84 (Baltimore Ravens) vs multiple GMs "How to Troll Free Agency... For Dummies". Skeet constantly coming into last-second conflict over specific players was hilarious. To a point. Most Improved GM: ineligible High-Powered Offense: Tennessee Titans This offense will break every meaningful regular-season offensive record. And then lose in the first round of the playoffs. Tough as Nails Defense: San Francisco 49ers Strong DL. Incredible LBs. Deep as hell DBs. The west coast version of the Steel Curtain. Best RB Tandem: LeSean McCoy, Mike Tolbert (Miami Dolphins) Two strong runners who complement each other. I can’t think of a better one-two punch in the GML… that I’m allowed to nominate, anyway. Best WR Unit: Philadelphia Eagles Against these guys, a 20 yard cushion constitutes press coverage. Best OL Unit: Philadelphia Eagles Five young guys playing their best positions for 10 years. Best DL Unit: Buffalo Bills You can’t run on this line, period. And you’ll have a hell of a time passing against them when Dareus and Sheard piledrive your quarterback each and every third down. Best LB Unit: New York Jets Mark Herzlich? Next to Pace and Scott? That’s just not fair. Best DB Unit: Kansas City Chiefs To a quarterback, throwing against this unit is like sticking your arm into a meat grinder.
Team On The Rise - Arizona Cardinals Team Built For Now - New York Jets Free Agent Steal of the Year - Justin Smith, New England Patriots Draft Steal of the Year - Cincinnati Bengals - Corey Liuget Trade of the Year - Eagles send: DE Trent Cole - $2,900,000, FB Owen Schmitt - $480,000, DT Mike Patterson - $1,400,000 Cardinals send: DE Calais Campbell - $555,000 2nd round pick (#46) Best in Trades - Cleveland Browns Best in Free Agency - San Francisco 49ers Best in Draft - Philadelphia Eagles Fued of the Year - GIK vs People who didn't like GIK's rules and actions as commish Most Improved GM (rookie GMs not eligible) - N/A High Powered Offense Award (best offense) - New York Giants Tough as Nails Defense Award (best defense) - New York Jets Best RB Tandem - New England Patriots Best WR Unit - Baltimore Ravens Best O-Line Unit - New York Giants Best D-Line Unit - Arizona Cardinals Best LB Unit - Pittsburgh Steelers Best Secondary Unit - Cleveland Browns
Team On The Rise- Carolina Panthers: I like the direction the team is going, Im certain they wont be picking #1 overall again next season. Team Built For Now- New England Patriots: If I had to lay money on who would win it all right now? Its the Pats, the offense is ridiculously ready to dominate, and the defense has a good mixture of veteran and young high level players. Free Agent Steal of the Year- The biggest steal imo was a guy who didnt post his roster who will remain nameless, NY Giants LB Thomas Davis $1M, I wanted T.D but then got sidetracked and Boik was able to land a player I was willing to pay about 4x as much for. Draft Steal of the Year- Cleveland Browns Christian Ponder , not just because he went higher in the real draft but because I think he is a very good player and the future franchise QB for the Browns. Trade of the Year- IMO it has to be the 3 team trade between Baltimore, SF, Oak. San Francisco Receive: Lamarr Houston DL $405,000.00 1.19(From Baltimore) 3.81 (From Oakland) 7.215(From Baltimore) Baltimore Receive: Rolando McClain LB $1,050,000.00 Tyvon Branch DB $555,000.00 1.28(From Oakland) 1.31(From Oakland) 2.48(From Oakland) Oakland Receive: Dennis Pitta, TE, $405,000 Paul Kruger, DE, $480,000 Ed Reed, FS, $6,500,000 1.7(From San Francisco) 2.46 (From Baltimore) Best in Trades- EAGLES: This guy has some odd ability to hypnotize people into giving them their young pro bowl players...he just abuses his felow GM's myself included. Best in Free Agency- NY Giants: Not only did he steal Thomas Davis, he also sneakingly stole one of the best young CB's in the league in Stanford Routt. In a year when CB was coveted he somehow managed to get this gem for cheap. He also picked up guys like Harvey Dahl, D'Qwell Jackson and Pat Williams all for bargain prices imo. Best in Draft- Baltimore Ravens: He traded down a couple of times to get more picks, and imo got outstanding value with almost all of his selections, his first 5 picks were incredible. Fued of the Year- Gish vs. PSG vs. Schisno in "Manning Bowl" nothing was as entertaining imo was the jockeying and roster depleting for one Peyton Manning. Most Improved GM (rookie GMs not eligible)- Boik: Boik did an ok job with the Colts last season, but really he stepped his game up with the Giants this season. He went from a rookie suffering from some growing pains to one of the best teams in the league imo. High Powered Offense Award (best offense)-Tennesee Titans: Easy. Manning, Hillis, Marshall, Britt, Clark, Welker? C'mon now. Tough as Nails Defense Award (best defense)- I have skipped this one because its the toughest imo, you could find holes in any and make a case for the best core in any...New England: Love his DL and imo has strong depth at various positions, back line of defense has 2 very good young players. Best RB Tandem- Denver Broncos: MJD and Ronnie Brown, MJD is a HORSE and the defense wont get a break with a fresh Ronnie spelling him. Best WR Unit- Atlanta Falcons: As if Mike Wallace and Miles Austin were not enough to worry about you have Desean Jackson in the slot! LOL. Best O-Line Unit- Eagles: Philly not only has the best OL now, but imo will for the next 10 seasons, a great job imo. Best D-Line Unit- New England: Not only does he have very good starters his backups can come in and dominate you also. Best LB Unit- Baltimore: Top to bottom that LB core is as solid as I found, Mclain next to Ray is amazing. Best Secondary Unit- Eagles: I almost didnt pick them because of Aaron Williams starting at SS but the combo of Tramon Williams and Joe Haden is SO good I cant deny them this award, a CLOSE runner up was NE.
Some of my noms have already been mentioned so I'm only nominating teams that haven't been nominated yet. •Team On The Rise: Miami Dolphins •Team Built For Now: Steelers •Free Agent Steal of the Year: Titans Flozel Adams 300k (many teams didn't list theirs) •Draft Steal of the Year: (this was tough I had a few I liked a lot) Falcons Marvin Austin 3.71 •Trade of the Year: (might add one later) •Best in Trades: Patriots •Best in Free Agency: (again, not everyone posted theirs) Steelers •Best in Draft: Bengals •Fued of the Year: No idea •Most Improved GM: Have to think about this one •High Powered Offense Award: Patriots •Tough as Nails Defense Award: Dolphins •Best RB Tandem: Cheifs- Jamaal Charles, Mikel LeShoure, Daniel Thomas, Owen Marecic •Best WR Unit: Patriots- Fitz, Jennings, Hester, Gronkowski •Best O-Line Unit: 49ers •Best D-Line Unit: (I honestly think I'm not allowed to vote for the best one so I'll pick...) Team On The Rise- Cleveland Browns. They have a lot of veterans, but they have a lot of young talent as well. I think it is the perfect mix for a team on the rise. Team Built For Now- Atlanta Falcons. That offense is crazy. Defense is pretty good as well. Free Agent Steal of the Year- Le'Ron McClain, Ravens. Isn't this guy 2 years removed from a 900 yard, 4.0 avg, 10 TD season? Take Ray Rice out of the Ravens offense and he would have continued to do that. IMO, he is worth more around $3mil, rather than $300k. Draft Steal of the Year- Aldrick Robinson, Chargers. Took him at the end of the 7th with a comp pick, and he went 178th in real life. That's like a +50. Plus, I had Robinson valued in the late 4th-early 5th. Trade of the Year- 3 way deal with Baltimore, San Fran, and Oakland.. I believe it was the only 3 way deal and I love 3 ways. Best in Trades- Philadelphia Eagles. Always moving players, always in trade talks. I liked what he did with his trades and he built a nasty team with them. Best in Free Agency- New York Giants. Got a boatload of talented players and didn't overpay any of them. Best in Draft- Green Bay Packers. 1. Patrick Peterson: A+ 54. Randall Cobb: B+ 64. Greg Little: A+ 83. Nate Irving: B 146. Noel Devine: A- 160. Joe Lefeged: C+ 192. Cheta Ozougwu: C+ solid *** draft Fued of the Year: GISH vs everyone. Lol'd the entire time. Most Improved GM (rookie GMs not eligible)- idk, I'm a rookie, so I don't know who did what before. High Powered Offense Award (best offense)- Tennessee Titans. This doesn't need a writeup. Tough as Nails Defense Award (best defense)- Miami Dolphins. That defense can grind. Best RB Tandem- Kansas City Chiefs. I feel like it's overkill, but damn that RB group is sick. Best WR Unit- Atlanta Falcons. All 5 guys would start on my team, behind Boldin. Best O-Line Unit-New York Jets. Take an already great OL and add Daryn Colledge. Not bad. Best D-Line Unit- New England Patriots. Had to pick a 3-4, because I love 3-4 defenses too much. Watt-Wilfork-Smith. It's going to be hard to run against that group and the Pats' LB corps are going to get a sick pass rush off of them. Best LB Unit- San Fransisco 49ers. It may be an experimental LB corps with all those 4-3 DEs converting to OLB, but damn that could be a nasty pass rush. Seems like something I would do. I like it. Best Secondary Unit- Dolphins. If I played the Dolphins, I would literally throw the ball 10% of the time.
Just a heads up, and Griddles can correct me if I'm wrong, but these are just nominations. So if a team has already been nominated you don't have to do it again. The voting portion will come later if I'm not mistaken.
This is correct sir, some of us have our favs now but ya never know what or who you may have overlooked until the actual voting.
Team on the Rise: Kansas City Chiefs Team Built for Now: Philadelphia Eagles Free Agent Steal of the Year: Vernon Carey, 49ers Draft Steal of the Year: Jake Locker, Vikings Trade of the Year: Best in Trades: Philadelphia Eagles Best in Free Agency: too tough to call Best in Draft: Kansas City Chiefs Feud of the Year: were there any i wasnt involved in? Most Improved GM: i dunno High-Powered Offense: Philadelphia Eagles Tough as Nails Defense: Miami Dolphins Best RB Tandem: Panthers, Denagelo Williams / Darren Sproles Best WR Unit: New England Patriots Best OL Unit: Philadelphia Eagles Best DL Unit: Buffalo Bills Best LB Unit: Kansas City Chiefs Best DB Unit: Miami Dolphins
yeah, if GIK can update his first post to include who has already been nominated, I'll know not to nominate them again. Seems like there is a bunch more categories this year, not sure if that's a good or bad thing at this point
* Team On The Rise - Denver Broncos (GIK) - Not loving their QB but the rest of the team looks much better then it did prior to the GM League. The defense and ground game in particular look infinitely better. * Team Built For Now - Atlanta Falcons (UCFinatic86) - Really went and addressed all the concerns of his team and built a pretty darn good team. They actually upgraded at QB, found more pass rushers, and man can that offense put up points with those weapons. * Free Agent Steal of the Year - JMHPhin (Pittsburgh steelers) - Michael Jenkins Wr 300,000 - Great job getting a starting wr for cheap. * Draft Steal of the Year - Delone Carter 5-138 by Cincinnati (Skull Destroyer) - This kid should be a future 1000 yard rusher. * Trade of the Year - I gave serious consideration to one or two others but its got to be the three team deal between SF-Oakland-Baltimore: San Francisco Receive: Lamarr Houston DL $405,000.00 1.19(From Baltimore) 3.81 (From Oakland) 7.215(From Baltimore) Baltimore Receive: Rolando McClain LB $1,050,000.00 Tyvon Branch DB $555,000.00 1.28(From Oakland) 1.31(From Oakland) 2.48(From Oakland) Oakland Receive: Dennis Pitta, TE, $405,000 Paul Kruger, DE, $480,000 Ed Reed, FS, $6,500,000 1.7(From San Francisco) 2.46 (From Baltimore) * Best in Trades - Alen (SF 49ers) - No one worked the trad chart better to maximize his picks and then he pulled off Spikes for a 5th and 6th, Jerry Hughes for 92, a 4th for Greg Hardy, a late 2nd for Asante Samuel...the list just goes on and on. * Best in Free Agency - Arizona (Sports 24/7) - Did a great job finding high level free agents to fill starting roles such as Bradshaw, Joseph, Sidney Rice and Paul Posluszny and mixed in some quality depth signings for cheap. More then one way to win that award. * Best in Draft - Denver Broncos (GIK) - Did well early and late. Also got a nice UDFA prospect with Koulianos who if had his head on straight would have probably been a mid-round selection. * Fued of the Year - Not voting for stupidity * Most Improved GM (rookie GMs not eligible) - Skull Destroyer (Cincinnati Bengals) * High Powered Offense Award (best offense) Atlanta Falcons (UCFinfan86) - Just look at the weapons. Austin, Jackson, Wallace, Turner, Olsen, Brad Smith, Burelson...would be a party for Roethlisberger. Enough said. * Tough as Nails Defense Award (best defense) - Miami Dolphins (Fin-O) * Best RB Tandem - KC's 3 headed monster is pretty darn awesome with Charles, Leshoure and Daniel Thomas. Nicely done by Vengeful Odin. * Best WR Unit - New England Patriots (Paul13) - Two elite WR's and a good group of complimentary WR's. * Best O-Line Unit - Philadelphia Eagles (UCF FINatic) - Albert and Okung with Maurkice Pouncey, rookie James Carpenter and Alex Mack. Theyre going to need it against the Giants front 4 * Best D-Line Unit - Miami Dolphins (Fin-O) - Love the overall size and strength of the unit; good depth as well. * Best LB Unit - Dallas Cowboys (thats what she said) - They already had the best LB unit and all they did was add Martez Wilson to Bradie James, Sean Lee, Ware and Spencer. Thats pretty sweet. * Best Secondary Unit - Green Bay Packers (Stringer Bell) - Added Patrick Peterson to a unit already containing Charles Woodson, Sam Shields, Morgan Burnett and Nick Collins. Good luck.
Team on the Rise: Arizona Cardinals Overally I really like what the Cardinals did by doing a complete overhaul on their offense with the additions of Stafford and Bradshaw. Bringing Trent Cole to the defense will be a big time help too. Team Built for Now: Atlanta Falcons The Falcons are one scary team; they can pound the rock and just when you're worn down... deep pass to Mike Wallace, DeSean Jackson, or Miles Austin. They really improved their pass rush too. Free Agent Steal of the Year: Olin Kreutz, $1.0M, Bears I believe that getting an All-Pro center for only one million is a big time win. Kreutz may be on the old side, but he's worth more than that. Draft Steal of the Year: Dion Lewis, 7.210 (SD) Dion Lewis is a great talent that should have went much earlier than the 7th round. He went a few rounds highest in the NFL Draft and Stitches got quite the steal. Trade of the Year: Philadelphia Eagles-Green Bay Packers (#1 overall draft pick trade) We seen the #1 overall pick switch hands a lot, but swapping a mid and late first round pick for the number one overall pick was quite the surprise and had a huge impact on the draft. Best in Trades: Philadelphia Eagles The Eagles were really upsetting me with how much they were winning in their trades. I really don't think they got the raw end of any deal. Best in Free Agency: Cincinnati Bengals The Bengals signed some quality players at a fairly cheap price. Who knows if all these players will pan out, but I'd say the Bungals did pretty well for themselves. Best in Draft: Baltimore Ravens The Ravens traded down a lot. And held up the draft. A lot. However it seems like it was worth it because they went value and got value throughout the entire draft. Feud of the Year: GISH vs. schisno GISH and schisno duking it out for the rights of Peyton Manning was interesting. And then Peyton Manning was released and it got more interesting. And not only did schisno lose out on Manning, he lost Adrian Peterson as well. Most Improved GM: Boik14 While Boik didn't do a bad job last year, he really improved his body of work this year. I feel like he was competing with some regular GMs as one of those guys that was always winning in their trades. High-Powered Offense: Tennessee Titans This offense is scary, just don't look at their defense. Tough as Nails Defense: San Francisco 49ers The versatility amazes me with the 49ers defense as its clear they had a plan all along. Best RB Tandem: New York Jets Shonn Greene, Joseph Addai, LaDainian Tomlinson... one of those guys should pan out in 2011. Best WR Unit: Atlanta Falcons DeSean Jackson, Miles Austin, and Mike Wallace?! Thank god Denver's secondary is actually decent. Best OL Unit: Philadelphia Eagles The Eagles have legitimate All-Pro players at each position. Chris Johnson could probably run for 3,000 yards behind that line. Best DL Unit: San Diego Chargers The Chargers added Haloti Ngata to an already impressive defensive line, Ngata just makes it twice as impressive. Best LB Unit: Baltimore Ravens The Ravens have a great linebacker group, but throwing in Rolando McClain next to Ray Lewis gives the Ravens a future leader for life without Lewis. Best DB Unit: Kansas City Chiefs The Chiefs secondary is very young, but also very talented. They are set for the next 10 years I would say.
Just to give some recognition to some guys who haven't been nominated yet and who I felt should be... Categories TEAM ON THE RISE Arizona Cardinals. Sports 24/7 I like how they went out and got Stafford. He can be a special qb if he can only stay healthy. Then you add Bradshaw and Spiller to the backfield. Certainly addressing the OL in the draft with Tyron Smith and Brandon Fusco, to go along with what he did in free agency with Charles Johnson, Willie Colon and Davin Joseph. Thats a nice offense being built. I like what he did on the defensive side too, going with the 43 and getting the best pieces he could with what he had. Nice job. FREE AGENT STEAL OF THE YEAR Ben Obomanu, Chicago Bears, Dukane and MonstBlitz co producers... ... I like Obomanu. Liked how he matched up last year with the Seahawks and Hassellbeck. Getting him at $400k when he's reaching his peak years as a receiver, that constitutes a steal in my book. EDIT... woops... looks like the Seahawks still think he's on their roster... well someone messed up here, see their writeup. DRAFT STEAL OF THE YEAR Jaiquawn Jarrett, pick 133 by the KC Chiefs, drafted in the NFL 54th overall by the Eagles. Jarrett is going to be a special player. I thought VO had an excellent draft. Daniel Thomas in the 4th round was a steal as well. TRADE OF THE YEAR Indianapolis trades WR Reggie Wayne ($5,950,000) to New York Giants for CB Terrell Thomas ($555,000), a 3rd round pick (#83) and a 5th round pick (#152). Why is this the trade of the year? Because it signaled what was to come in free agency with Indianapolis... Tennessee... Minnesota... and one Peyton Manning. You don't trade a player of Wayne's caliber unless you're serious... this is serious. Honorable mention if I could: Indianapolis trades QB Peyton Manning ($36,000,000) to Tennessee for LT Russell Okung ($705,000) and a 1st round pick (#27). for obvoius reasons... BEST IN DRAFT San Diego Chargers... Stitches... He had a quiet year... maybe that was his plan, maybe not... ... but check out what he did in the draft. He added Kendall Hunter at running back (along with one of his man crush victims Dion Lewis). He drafted three wide receivers, Edmond Gates (my new favorite Dolphin), Torrey Smith (the Ravens really like him), and Aldrick Robinson. That's some serious speed for Philip Rivers to play with. Gabe Carimi at tackle (for some reason he fell in the real draft, not sure why, I think he's a solid player and would make for a solid right tackle for the Chargers). And then Kenrick Ellis and Curtis Marsh, solid picks on the defensive side. I think that's worth nominating. FEUD OF THE YEAR The auction for Doug "Not" Free, $20 million dollars... that's serious. BEST RUNNING BACK TANDEM NY Giants - Boik14 - Bush, Ward, Wells is a fairly solid group, but the addition of Ryan Williams puts them over the top IMO. BEST OFFENSE LINE Washington Redskins... Sean... Whitworth, Dockery, Unger, Andrews, Winston. Nice group, deserves some pub... BEST DEFENSE LINE Denver Broncos... GIK... Jared Allen, Ray Edwards, Glenn Dorsey and Barry Cofield, with Clayborn and Vickerson off the bench... deserves mentioning IMO. Another 43 front that I felt looks promising. BEST LINEBACKER UNIT Cleveland Browns.. I feel this group is worth mentioning... Von Miller, Michael Boley, Chris Gocong, Dan Connor, Brandon Siler and AJ Edds in particular. That's a nice deep group of some very scheme diverse players. BEST SECONDARY Detroit Lions. PeaTearGriffin.. how can you not include him into the best secondary group with the additions of Nnamdi Asomugha and Jimmy Smith at the CB positions, added to Delmas (one of my favorite safeties in the league) and then Bernard "Brady Killer" Pollard. Unfortunately, he didn't promote his additions with a fancy writeup, but I'll give him some props here.
Team on the Rise: Arizona Cardinals This team could certainly finish about the same spot as 2010, but there are just a lot of things I like about this time, and with some rolls of the dice going their way (namely Stafford and Poz staying healthy), they could really see a huge turnaround. Team Built for Now: Cincinnati Bengals This team is unequivocally built for now IMO. There are some significant pieces headed downhill soon or are pretty much already out the door (whether by age, talent, or production). Maybe they can piece it together for one season, but not much more (what hurts worse, is that the team wasn't good in 2010 either). Free Agent Steal of the Year: Tie - Saints (Carl Nicks)/Dolphins (Paul Solia) RFA or not, these two teams got two highly, highly productive players (in 2010) at faaaaaaaaaaaaar below true market value. If RFA's do not count, I'm going with Leon Washington (Rams). For $300K, they got a change of pace back, but more importantly a supremely dangerous returner. Draft Steal of the Year: 179 - Denver Broncos - Da'Norris Searcy, S, North Carolina I had my eye on him because I thought he showed a lot this past year at NC given all he and that program went through. He ended up going at pick 100 in the real draft, and I think he may ultimately outplay that spot even. Trade of the Year: N/A Best in Trades: Eagles. I was just continually amazed at all the trades they were doing. While they made a few trades I wouldn't have done (who are we kidding, I hardly do trades), the fact that they did so many trades and didn't lower the talent of their team at all is an accomplishment in itself (IMO). Best in Free Agency: Arizona Maybe they didn't get the most steals, or get the biggest signings, but I think they did a good job helping their team with some quality signings (even if some pose an injury risk). Best in Draft: Bills. They got some much needed defensive help. Feud of the Year: Titans v Colts Most Improved GM: Skeet84 High-Powered Offense: Falcons I honestly don't even want to think about trying to defend that offense if it really existed. Tough as Nails Defense: Packers They're quite good all around. It'd be difficult to poke too many holes in them week in/week out I think. Best RB Tandem: I'm voting on a unit, and I'm going with the Chiefs. Lots of talent there with Charles, LeShoure, and Thomas. Best WR Unit: (tie) Falcons/Eagles Just sick. Best OL Unit: Eagles again. Quite unfair to be honest. Best DL Unit: Broncos Two legit rushers at end, and Dorsey who is playing better at DT (plus Clayborn who I think would fit in great at DT there too). Best LB Unit: Ravens Ray Lewis and McClain and Suggs and then the potential of Brooks Reed. Best DB Unit: Chiefs Chiefs have some great young players and added Weddle and Jarrett.
Space reserved ... I will edit tonight. Been without a computer and I became an uncle today. EDIT 1: Thanks for all the well wishes. I knew someone would make a Viking crack ... just know it's a she and she came in weighing a whopping 9 pounds 11 ounces ... we will have her out pillaging in no time. EDIT 2: Here's my nominations ... I will warn you I'm going on 18 hours awake after about 6 hours of sleep ... and Vikings need their beauty rest ... Team On The Rise: After bidding adieu to Peyton Manning, you know that the Indianapolis Colts would have to rebuild. We just didn't know it was going to be that fast. The Colts have 11 rookies on their team, with 2 starters and another 5 or 6 that they expect to make contributions. If they pan out, we could see them not miss a beat. Team Built For Now: The Chicago Bears went the veteran route, adding Jake Long and Steve Smith offensively. Mike Martz should get the most out of Smith and Jake Long will keep Cutler's jersey clean. Free Agent Steal of the Year: He didn't play much last year, but I expect Thomas Howard to bounce back this year. At 800k, the New York Giants fleeced everyone else. Damn you Boik. Draft Steal of the Year: It's a toss-up between Ricky Stanzi and Julius Thomas. Either way, the San Francisco 49ers landed two potential starters in the middle rounds. Trade of the Year - Uh, this has to be the Peyton Manning trade. Or did everyone else forget that was actually a trade and not a FA signing? Best in Trades: The Philadelphia Eagles win this, if only for their used car salesman, never say die attitude when it came to players they wanted. Best in Free Agency: With value across the board, especially along the offensive and defensive lines, the San Francisco 49ers spent wisely in FA. Best in Draft - Have to hand it to Tractor Traylor and the New York Jets. Ugh. Fued of the Year: Manning Gate, an epic saga of Revenge, Tears, and *****ing. Most Improved GM (rookie GMs not eligible): Sean stepped into a Redskins situation late, but it was clear his experience paid off. And he almost landed Manning to boot. High Powered Offense Award (best offense): This one has to go to Gish, who used 99% of his cap on QB, RB, WR, WR, WR, and TE. Perhaps he can buy a defense next season. Tough as Nails Defense Award (best defense): Stitches added Haloti Ngata to an already stacked San Diego Chargers defense. I'm not looking forward to playing him twice next season. Best RB Tandem: The Baltimore Ravens have Ray Rice and Roy Helu, a nice one two punch. And LeRon McClain is one of the top FBs in the NFL. Best WR Unit: Look, Larry Fitzgerald is a #1 and one of the best, if not the best, WR in the NFL. Jennings is a legit #1 opposite him. This one has to be the New England Patriots. You're welcome Paul. (Please send payment as we discussed over PM) Best O-Line Unit: Joe Thomas, Tony Pashos, Eric Steinbach, Lyle Sendelin, Marshal Yanda. The names aren't necessarily flashy but they'll do fine opening holes for the Cleveland Browns Running Backs. Best D-Line Unit: When you have Adrian Clayborne coming off the bench, you know you're doing something right. My only regret is trading Glenn Dorsey to the division rival Denver Broncos. Talk about helping the enemy. Best LB Unit: Paul Poslozsky and DJ Williams are the standouts of an underrated Arizona Cardinals linebacking unit. Best Secondary Unit: I really like what the Pittsburg Steelers did. Despite losing Polamalu, they picked up Dawan Landry, who should step right in. Vontae Davis and Dunta Robinson are the best CBs they've had in a long time. I apologize if these are duplicate nominations ... it's way too late and I need a beer. Cheers.
Thirded, though I can't imagine how often you've started using that as an excuse for being a drunk for the foreseeable future.
Hey guys, sorry I haven't been as active as of recent; I am studying for the Dental Admissions Test which I will be taking in exactly 49 days I have been studying 7-8 hours every day for the past 8 days blahhhhh. With most of my top choices for each catergory already nominated I am going to be nominating most teams that haven't been nominated yet; some of my picks will be made to get some teams more recognition. Without further ado: Categories TEAM ON THE RISE Detroit Lions I am kind of surprised this team hasn't already been nominated. If you look at the average age of the Lions starters most of them are very young and will only get better. With Jim Harbaugh selecting Colin Kaepernick, I have faith in him at the reigns. Javid Best (22), Calvin Johnson (25), Brandon Pettigrew (25), Ndamukong Suh (24), Sammie Lee Hill (24). He goes out in FA and upgrades the line with Jared Gaither and then solidifies the secondary by adding Nnmandi Asomugha and Jimmy Smith. Solid Job! TEAM BUILT FOR NOW Baltimore Ravens I really like what the Ravens did with their team. They have a really solid offensive line and improved their aging WR core. Their secondary took a hit losing Ed Reed, but I really like Dashon Goldson and Ray Lewis won't let their play slip off that much. Solid all around team in my opinion. FREE AGENT STEAL OF THE YEAR Stephen Tulloch ($4,000,000) - Chiefs Tulloch had the second most tackles in the NFL last season and should have made the Pro Bowl in my opinion. He is young and a leader. I tried to bid on him but didn't have the money. $4,000,000 might seem like a lot for the FA steal of the year, but when you look at how much other LBs went for Greenway +$10,000,000 etc. it was a steal. DRAFT STEAL OF THE YEAR DeMarcus Van Dyke: Picked C5C, went 81st He was picked up in the late 5th round and went in the mid to late 3rd. Thats like +80 or something like that. Yes, it was the Raiders, but in my opinion their track record with secondary players has faired pretty well. TRADE OF THE YEAR Bills send: 1.25 2.59 5.130 6. 157 CJ Spiller Hussain Abdullah Cardinals send: 1.5 Just a crazy trade in my opinion. I didn't know what to think of it. BEST IN TRADES Denver Broncos I really liked the way he made trades. He valued chemistry and kept most of his roster intact while adding valuable pieces. Really liked the way he worked the Orton deal and his deal to land Michael Griffin. BEST IN FREE AGENCY New York Giants The Giants did a really solid job here of getting great players on the cheap. BEST IN DRAFT Miami Dolphins Yes, I know they were already nominated for this category but they just killed it here. He worked the trades moving all around the draft making sure to get "his" guys. I loved every single pick that he made. Just a great job. I wish Ireland in company operated like this. FEUD OF THE YEAR GISH vs. PSG vs. schisno (Manning Feud) I would say that this was really entertaining to watch if I wasn't scared out of my mind one of them would go after Vick. Not many people know this but the Titans-Falcons-Eagles had a 3 team trade worked out involving a Pro Bowl QB as insurance; glad everything workout the way it did though. MOST IMPROVED GM Skull Destroyer Not many moves but really liked what he did with the Bengals. They were going downhill and he added some talent to keep them afloat now and had a good draft to set them up for the future. BEST OFFENSE Tennessee Titans SOOOOOOOOOO MANY amazing offenses this year. My one question regarding the Titans is their overall offensive speed, but you just can't question their weapons back there. Gish got his man in Manning and I gave him the nod in this category because of just how much he improved this offense. The Titans were just an average offenses last year and this year they would be a top 4 lock. BEST DEFENSE Kansas City Chiefs I don't know why but I really, really like their defense. They have great players at every position and I think they would surprise a lot of teams. VO did a really good job of using FA and trades to piece together this defense. I am a fan. BEST RUNNING BACK TANDEM San Diego Chargers Ryan Mathews, Kendall Hunter, Thomas Jones, Dion Lewis, Jacob Hester and Lex Hilliard. They have the pounding back, the scat back, the veteran, the second year star. They have all different types of running backs and great depth. Would be a fun team to watch thats indeed. I wonder how they would determine who would get that rock and how much. BEST WIDE RECEIVER UNIT Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots Honestly, this is too close to call. Both have amazing starters and depth. Unreal. BEST OFFENSE LINE San Francisco 49ers Mike Iupati and Chilo Rachal are two of the best run blocking Guards in the game. Add in Joe Staley, Danny Watkins, and Vernon Carey and you have an incredible line. I really like this line and they all have their best football days in front of them. BEST DEFENSE LINE Atlanta Falcons They have a gret 4-3 line with a lot of depth. Charles Johnson and John Abraham on the edge with Justin Houston backing them up. Then a DT rotation of the insanely strong Stephen Paea, John Henderson and Marvin Austin and Dwan Edwards. They have the depth to get after the QB play after play after play. BEST LINEBACKER UNIT Washington Redskins I really like their combination of linebackers. Very underrated and should have at least gotten a shout out. BEST SECONDARY Kansas City Chiefs Young secondary that is only going to get better with time. Brandon Carr, Brandon Flowers, Eric Berry, and Eric Weddle just scary.
I planned on listing all rookie GMs for that award, UCF. I will make the voting thread tomorrow after my summer class... that's right, I have summer class. And after this class, I graduate from college and become an unemployed 22 year old... just like every other college graduate. Hopefully that's enough time for VO to get his list in (and anyone else who wants to add their input). Oh and I am thankful someone noticed my defensive line. And I felt that was one of the best things about my team... and probably the most expensive.
I graduated on a Saturday and started like the following Monday (of course I had already had the job lined up for like 5 months).
Ohhhh, I thought I was missing something lol. I have 2 summer classes coming up too man All the best though!
I always put it off until the last minute and then rush to post just so my team is in the running. One of these years I'll eventually write one. Thanks for the vote!
Just noticed it a few days ago. He was an "available" free agent that we bid on and won for the purposes of this game, BUT he was resigned by the Seahawks in real life, so I don't know, just assume he has a twin brother. Also named Ben.
TEAM ON THE RISE Tennessee Titans - For this award I looked at the team who did the most to improve their QB situation. Nuff said. TEAM BUILT FOR NOW Philadelphia Eagles. This team is build for now and later. FREE AGENT STEAL OF THE YEAR James Jones - $1.5M, Jaguars I'm not sure if it was the BIGGEST steal of the year, but I started a little late in free agency and remember being furious that I missed out on a chance at James Jones. Considering what some teams paid for WRs, Jones is a steal at this price, IMO. DRAFT STEAL OF THE YEAR Jake Locker, 2.45 (MIN) Well, he went to early in the real draft, IMO, and too late in ours. Still, if you get a QB that went top 10 in the real NFL draft midway through the 2nd, that's what this award should be all about. TRADE OF THE YEAR Pittsburgh Steelers-Atlanta Falcons Ben Roethlisberger/Matt Ryan Trade Added a QB who despite being a rapist has won 2, and been to 1 other SB and a gamechanger on defense, and an explosive young offensive player. BEST IN TRADES Miami Dolphins - I don't know if Fin ended up in the best situation overall after all his wheels and deals, but the way he negotiated during FA, and the way he moved seamlessly up and down the board on draft day impressed the hell out of this GM. BEST IN FREE AGENCY Pass - too hard to look up BEST IN DRAFT Miami Dolphins FEUD OF THE YEAR GISH vs. Everyone MOST IMPROVED GM Didn't play last year - pass BEST OFFENSE Philadelphia Eagles BEST DEFENSE New York Giants BEST RUNNING BACK TANDEM Eagles BEST WIDE RECEIVER UNIT Philadelphia Eagles BEST OFFENSE LINE Phialdelpia Eagles BEST DEFENSE LINE BEST LINEBACKER UNIT BEST SECONDARY
