Its good to see Jason Allen not on the field when the defense takes the field, its bad when Benny Sapp does..

    First drive for Balt..

CamCam, is just a really good offensive coordinator, he understands that no team can match up with us from a physical standpoint, so he goes with all misdirection, motion and the screen game..very smart coordinator..

Sapp gives up the big play to Housh over the middle.

They have what we don't have, and what we desperately need..Ray rice..a player that can take a screen from 40 yards out, which is exactly what he did to us on the first drive..

I'am makin a run at Reggie bush, and that's all I have to say about that..Henne needs someone that can score and knife thru a defense, we currently do not have that on our roster, and its our GM's job to get it done..

Holy crap..that was Willis mcgahee... Pod, you might be onto something there..They got 2 players that can do what we need.

Either way, we need a quick back who can juke, stop and start, real bad...Bush, Sproiles, Willis, get it done Irish.

You think its a damn coincidence that THAT team has 3 first round drat picks that are canes...I don't think so..There is a method to that madness and its brilliant, I like the baltimore ravens, always have, 2nd favorite team in sports..

    Henne time..first drive..

Let me preface with a quote from Dierdorf, that came from Henning, about Henne..

''Chad Henne is doing exactly what we want him to do'', and making very few mistakes''.

    What a POS..

If you haven't been to baltimore to see a game, let me just say, top 3 stadiums in the league from an intimidation standpoint, fans on top of field, and very loud..

First drive for Henne... after some nice holes opened up and a false start by jake, and every fan standing on their feet, Henne goes 3 for three on the drive, all three passes were very accurate but its the one to Marshall I would like to expand on...It was third down and the fans were at their apex being up 7..Henne drops, waits for his player to open, and fires a freakin laser to Marshall..This was a big time throw that Ray Lewis is still hearing in his ears..On the replay you can See Ray flailing as he missjudged the velocity of the ball, and it completely turned him around...Let me just Qoute dierdorf on this throw...''That was a SPECTACULAR throw by Chad Henne.....{long pause}...I mean REALLY good..''

We answer with 6 on the play after...Oline completely manhandled their front, ronnie went untouched..

If nothing else, for a young team, to do that, in that place, is impressive to me..

Let me tell ya somethin about Chris Clemons..The man is not afraid at all to hit people, the collision doesn't look all that impressive because his body is not filled out yet, but when it does, this guy has violent tendencies as a hitter..

I'am not sure this point is valid but, the theory that our defense has to face a Dan Henning led offense in practice every day can't be a good thing right?, I mean the difference in scheme design is so tangible its coming thru my screen, Cam has designed deep throws that are extending our defense, and you can tell there are direct orders for the QB to go deep, hes not even looking at other options, 3 long passes in the first quarter, one play deep, then screens traps, draws, its really nice to watch..

well the first quarter is over and Henne is perfect on the day..That makes 29 quarters of very solid play for a 2nd year starter...very solid..

Dansby is the whole package baby...stuffs them on third and 1, after picking the right hole to explode thru, pure instinct, great play..

Henne's 2nd drive..ok, so lets break down this pick fair and square..First of all, I will say that on the previous drive Derick Mason showed what you are supposed to do on this particular route, there are two things on this route that a receiver must, and must not do..one thing that is a must is coming back to the ball and keeping your body at all times in front of your defender, 2, under no circumstances can you fall down on the play..

Hartline failed miserable on both..This was a designed half rollout, far hash throw, not an easy pass, and no other options but to make the throw..This int was not Chad Hennes fault..you can believe it, or not..were trying to break down the numbers here in this series of threads, not just look at the stats..

Hartlines *** better be in the gym, because his core strength has been a liability to this team...He is a perfect example of why genetics and the body are very important in player analysis and projection...I'am finding so much evidence over the years, that if the body is not properly developed, the player is suseptible to struggles because of it.

So after the pick, let me just tell you a little sack story about our new shiny franchise player, the beast that is Paul Solai..They have the ball at our 6, play action pass, Solai takes birk with his hands and throws him to the side, explodes off the rip and lunges to flacco destroying him on the finish, gets up and fires off a Cam wake celebration...It was freakin beautiful man..

The play was so devastating that, the ravens and flacco were fuzzy, next play, delay of game, next play the clock gets down to 3 secs and their not at the los, T.O...LOL..Wake follows up with the relentless sack...after that pick, we crushed their offense, they get 3..

I absolutely love the 38 defense with Wake comin on the pressure, drop 8 with Wake and that motor, were talking serious advantages out of that formation alignment..He is the perfect player to run that defense..I'd like to see more of it..

Then we top that sh$# off with pressure on the kick, forcing a bobble, and sack of the kicker.. What a brilliant display of dominant defense on that series..

Year 4 baby,Thats the way its always been for me, ya'll can jump the ship all you want, i'am stayin on board with that defense,,Sheee$..

After all of that emotion, the team flying around celebrating Henne takes the field...I have a feeling something bad hapens here to give the illusion and false reason to blame Henne..

First play...Henning has Henne throw a jailbreak screen to Marshall, 5 yard loss after he tries to fight, but goes backwards..did what he was supposed to do, no doubt, bad call.

    2nd and 15...Henne to Fasano for 7..

3rd and 8...Suggs stunts, comes untouched up the middle, sack..maybe if Henne was mike vick or Ckap he could of made a play with his feet, but he was right in the middle of the pocket..

Henning blew that drive with the wide receiver screen against prees coverage, where is the option for Henne to get out of that route..

Defense comes back on the field after a 3 and out and flexes their muscle again..they hold the ravens to a field goal with Misi and Wake on a double team sack.

Hennes next drive..pivitol drive to rest the defense here..

Henne drops throws a perfect deep curl route to Hart, the pass was so good, that it allowed Hart to make a move and run for another 20 yards...30 yard pass play..2 min warning.

1st down, Henne drops, throw to bess for 15 yards on a sideline route, very nice execution, excellent ball placement..

1st down..Bloodzone screen to ronnie, nice call, nicely executed, ball driven to their 25 in 5 plays.

    1st down...Marshall for 6 yards,, Henne 4 for 4 on the drive..

    2nd down, incomplete..

    3rd down..Complete to hart for 10, 1st down..

first and goal at the 10...wtf HAPPENS HERE!!!

Great drive by Henne til this point, Henne waits, patience, waits for bess to clear, he does, Henne throws a dart to bees, bess stretches, ball at the 1 foot line..

3rd and 1 and they go play action to fasano, the linebacker read the play and gets good depth, making Henne adjust the throw, vernon carey gets blown up at the los allowing pressure, The ball comes off his hand in bizarre fashion..4th down, they kick the field goal...

damn it, that was an excellent drive...I don't know how you dont look at that scenario as 2 definite runs, with the mentality of going for it on 4th down..Fu$# the fieldgoal you putz, were on the road against one of the best teams in the league, you go for it in that situation..

Henne had to adjust on the throw with a poor result, but the 6 previous throws on the drive were very nice, there is no denying that..How you wanna put that into context is up to you..I guess it depends on your predetermined demeanor..

For me, He had the ball 4 times in the half..Thats it...put up 10 points..and made 1 bad throw, i'am not counting that Hart int...I gurantee you that Hart takes the hit on that INT..

2nd half..Camcam beatin up Nolan on the drive..let me say this, if we had the checkdown game that the ravens had, Chad Henne would have a QBR over a hundred for the first half of the season, no doubt, this whole drive to start the 2nd half is Flacco throwing the ball 5 yards, with rice and mcgahee eating up chunk yards, thats their whole game plan..players with explosive short area quickness, and Cam beating nolan on his blitzes...They score 6..

Two things we don't have on our team were on full display on their team...A real offensive coordinator, and quick backs..

Henne on the drive here dinkin and dunkin and pickin up first downs...there seems to be some separation issues... Gunshy, idk, I'll tell ya this, ronnie drops an easy pass to sustain a drivE.

''Can't deliver a better pass that that though.'' you can't put it in a more catchable spot than Henne did for ronnie'' ...Dierdorf on the drop by ronnie to put us in field goal range.

Game is about over, defense is gettin gashed on checkdowns and misdirection, however, I just watched Wake track rice from behind when both were running full speed...I can find anymore superlatives for that man...except we stole a top 5 pick in the draft of 09'' ..

Ray rice has 4 catches of 10 yards plus..

OMGOODNESS.. I forgot that SS24 dropped that easy pick 6...wow, was that easy..If Henne throws that garbage, hes villified..That was a bad throw, Henne to Hart INT, notsomuch..fact..

LOL...they just showed it in slow motion...LOL...Sean better get that demon out his head.

How bout quantifying what those easy turnovers mean to games, and our QB's ability to win football games?..Don't know about you, but I sure as hell am going to...Its what your supposed to do when making fair and accurate assessments, and projections.

Has Henne thru 8 games thrown one of those type of balls that flacco just did?...The answer is no, not even close..

They fake the punt to continue a drive after that botched pick 6..lol

Padre, what does it mean when they punt the ball and we have NOONE covering the gunner guy, noone was on him..The punter just threw it out there?

    Crowder got spat on...

Dobbins crushes flacco on the sack, they miss the field goal, its still a game, down by 10..

Henne has run several times this game, all after looking down the field, looks to me like receivers aren't getting separation.

Big drive, lets see what happens...Picks up a first down with marshall.

Wow, Henne goes deep 2 times in a row, the first was a dime piece of a pass, 30 yarder to Hart on a studder and go, perfect pass, allowed Hart to make the play..Next pass deep to Marshall, he calls for the ball 15 yards in his route, Henne lets it fly, his feet get tangled, he falls, ball looked on target to me.Henne gets crushed right after release.

Drive ends with a pass to bess for 8, and a sack where Berger got mixed up on a massive blitz, Henne had no chance whatsoever, goldie locks misses the kick...

Nothing was Hennes fault on that drive,nothing...

so the game is out of reach, There is 6 mins to go, Henne drops to throw, Marshall drops the pass, next play, Henne drops to throw on a quick slant, Marshall drops the pass, picked by ed reed.

This game is toast, and I'll say this, the fact that Henne took the hit for the season and was benched is the biggest crock of Sh$# ive witnessed as a dolphin fan..This teams had issues during the first half of the season...Henne was not one of them..

If you want to bench him for not inspiring his teammates to play up to his level, and a coordinator that purposely wants his QB to play a conservative brand of football, I think that goes right in the crock too...

I'am good now, I have peace that I was wrong about the benching, and it wasn't even close..

Im a henne fan, but this was absolutely his worst throw of the season (that wasn't picked off). He was just too antsy. It was a young and restless type of mistake that Chad Pennington would have never made. Henne saw the guy, he wanted the score so badly that he just threw it too quickly, didn't put it in the right place and put too much on it. If Pennington were QB on this one play, we would have scored 7 instead of 3. But it was just an experience thing IMO, and Henne hopefully learned from it.

Oh and the dropped INT. Nearly puked. It was a pick 6 all the way. Just one of many on the season. SS24 couldve had 8 ints this season i believe. He only caught 1. For as great as this defense was, they just didn't turn the ball over enough.

Not so sure that it would have been seven if it was Pennington. We saw Penny implode against the Ravens the previous season with a much much worse performance than Henne's.

It was a bizzarely bad throw..but I did see the hesitation because of the depth the linebacker got..That is a rhythm play, if he throws it on where one would usually throw it, it gets picked, I think thats why he fluttered it, he had to adjust at the last second and couldn't compose himself with pressure coming.

I would add to that point that Hennes performance in this game was much better than Penny's against the same defense, except this one was at their house.. no question about it..Penny was suffocated by this defense, he couldn't get it outside the hashes, Henne did..

Good ish once again DJ. It had to be the proverbial "need a spark" rationale that led to him being benched, cause the guy flat out played well up to that point in the season. Played well vs Tennessee, Oakland, Buffalo & Detroit also. But when you lose games somebody has to take the blame, which is why the gap between public perception and what actually happened is HUGE.

You're dead on about Hartline causing the pick and Henne's end of half snafu. I actually think we couldve scored on 2nd down if Henne got the ball to Bess quicker (he takes an extra couple hitches for some reason) or if Bess can make a play for his QB.

McGahee made us look like a JV squad on that screen pass, and we had no answers for Ray Rice. Cam had a great game plan, he threw deep early to back us off, then killed us with screens/check downs but ultimately it was Rice & McGahee's individual talent that made the difference. Someone wake me when a Miami running back does anything like what those two did that day.

Sean Smith and his killer dropped INT smh. Clemons dropped one on the first drive. Both drives led to TD's. Another ST breakdown. Every friggin week ST does some silly shidt that hurts us. Missed FG before halftime at Buffalo, blocked punt vs NYJ, the NE fiasco, blocked punt vs GB, 2 long KR allowed vs Pitt, including a 50 yd return on the winning (losing drive), muffed punt vs Cincy, and now we have 10 men on the field, no jammer and instead of punt Baltimore scores the clinching TD. Add that to the no running game, cant force any turnovers, cant make any big plays, etc. Sometimes I wonder how we ever beat anybody at all.

Let's break that down. First of all, no QB is immune to bad throws. Manning had a 3 to 4 game stretch last season where he looked like Joey Harrington. Brady played terrible against the Jets the first game, the Browns, and the Jets in the playoffs. Rarely will you see a QB not make boneheaded throws. Joe Flacco is the king of boneheaded throws really. I know Baltimore fans who dread Joe Flacco in the fourth quarter. He even made a terrible throw in our game that SS couldn't take advantage of. The bad throw for Henne was the one to Fasano. QB's are allowed to make a bad throw. The Marshall INT was so out of the blue. He volleyballed the pass and Ed Reed, standing away from every offensive player, catches that pass. There was another INT I can't remember so I'll call it 2 bad throws in the game. Seriously, a QB isn't allowed to make two bad throws in a game? Is his team that bad where he has to be perfect, as a second year starter?

What about the running game? We had 8 rushing TD's. Some red zone opportunities should be given to the running game, no? You have to factor in receiving TD's by backs too. The fact is, our RB's had a worse comparative season than our QB.

I'll agree with you on Flacco, one of the most overratted QBs I've seen. But is a good game manager and fits their O.

Travis, you are one of my all time favorite posters on this board, that is the most shallow analysis and accusation I have seen come from a future sports writer..

If you dont trust my eye in this case then you don't trust me for anything..The kid took the hit..He dealt with a flawed, totally conservative offensive concept..He had no support with his running game, he had no one that could house a hitch, a screen, or a run, no chunk yardage players, he lacked a deep threat that could soften zones, he was accurate with the football when he had to throw, he had the ball taken out of his control on many scoring oppurtunities, he had as many bad throws as I have fingers on one hand, He played the position well for a 2nd year starter, and he had to deal with a fanbase that put undo pressure on him, and a fanbase that created criticism for no just reason.

I'am excited that these destructive variables were addressed, and excited for him to be our QB after this closer look, with a fair chance and a new coordinator..And the fact that we din't take a QB in the draft, is all the endorsement I, or anyone, should need to determine that the man took the hit.

Your funny brother, you have a ''fire Henning or Bust'' in your sig, and you dont quantify that one bit in your first half of season analysis on a players performance that directly relates to that coach.

Bro, that is how it goes with some young Qb's, hot and cold, with more experience that consistency CAN develop, but not always, this season if it ever starts with the labor stuff, is simply crucial for the Dolphins Franchise sticking with Henne is a bold move that if it fails we are set back 3 yrs, if it succeeds Henne will be a multi millionaire with his contract expiring.

    High stakes.

You do realize that is 3 Qb's out of 32?

How about 2 of them had Top 5 Defenses to rely on?

    Top 5 running games?

A feature back with more then 300 carries for two of them?

Matt Stafford was also a "sure thing", he is on his second shoulder rehab.

Disagree Aqua, they tend to hang around a coaches neck like a dead seagull, whichever organization that drafts them as well.

High draft pick Qb's do not just go away Aqua, they become the Franchises albatross, Singletary inherited him, then Harbaugh, they spent numerous #1 picks to try and build an offense around him and it just never worked out.

That is what happens when a highly drafted Qb busts out.

What dj forgot to tell you is that on that first drive Ronnie ran 6 times for about 45 yards. Scored a 12 yard TD. We ran the ball five times the rest of the football game. Henne threw the ball 34 times which is not really what we should have doing that day. Another classic situation of Henne being put in a bad situation. They abandoned the run and it was costly. There is more than one element to an offense.

I agree. It's a difficult throw for a young QB to convert. Hopefully now that he's seen it, he'll put 6 on the board if faced with it again.
Without the hesitation, it could've very well been a pick in the endzone, so the missed TD opportunity doesn't bother me as much as it normally would.

Thanks for the writeup Deej. I can't wait till our first game with Daboll just to see what the "addition by subtraction" looks like without the puddin-head calling plays.

I don't know. I tend to think it takes a certain degree of mental toughness to play through a senior season at Michigan with like 3 injuries, play half of last season on an injured knee, and then immediately bounce back after being benched despite knowing you're getting little help from the rest of your team. It's hard to assume the role of "the guy" when your OC takes you out of the game inside the 35 or drastically reduces your opportunities to convert the quality drives in which you just marched your offense down the field.

IMO Daboll will do what he needs to do in order to bring back the leadership ability that Henne was starting to exhibit his senior year at Michigan and Miami 09.

Great OP again DJ. I enjoy reading all your game rewind reports.

Before I die, I hope someday to be able to watch a Dolphins game with you and Todd. A 60 inch flat screen, 3 Lazyboy recliners, and an unlimited supply of pizza and refreshing beverages.

Its officially on the bucket list my friend..screw the game man, I'd settle for just the beer, picking your brain, and gettin hammered..

I think folks tuned out Henne last year just because of 3 losses, thought we deserved better, forgot what a 2nd year QB under 20 starts is supposed to look like, knew Penny was chompin at the bit, and lost the ability to rationally analyze the positions responsibilities relative to destructive variables directly affecting the position..jmo..

Deej told me you can just sit on his lap, so make that 2 Lazyboys.
Outside of that nitpickery, you can count me in.

I can get animated during games, so I'd be concerned DJ may catch some of the residual if I'm on his lap. Also I doubt it would be as comfy as a Lazyboy. ;)
