Bare bones version 0.1 is set to be released this July...finally!

It will continuously be modded with content being added to it regularly, but the community has been waiting for this release all too long.

Anyways, here leaked footage of beta testing.

It is a mod for Arma 2. Project Reality started with Battlefield 2 mod, just youtube project reality. Essentially they focus on reality and took a arcadey BF:2 game and turned it into something special with emphasis on team play and realism. For example, BF:2 had no bullet dynamics so they incorporated several degrees of variance in shooting, standing much less accurate than prone, etc.

Hard to sum up, there is so much to Project Reality, and PR:Arma 2 should be amazing.

Hey, for a taste of what it is like to play mil sims online with people, and cooperation check out some of these videos of TVT (Team vs Team) currently with Arma II and the ACE and ACRE mods.

Might get me to play ArmA II again. This also works on Operation Flashpoint?

Operation Flashpoint never released their dev packages, so it can't be modded, I believe.

    The videos above incorporate the following mods;

    ACE - Advanced Combat Environment
ACRE - Advanced Combat Radio Environment

ACRE is something special man, you have two push to talk buttons. One for normal speaking, 3D directional sound, and only players (friend or foe) within earshot in the game can hear you. Loud up close, soft the further you get until you can't hear the person. Then they have short range radios (500 m range) for squads. Alpha (Fire team 1 and 2) on channel 1, Bravo (Fire team 1 and 2) on channel 2, BMP Armour 1 channel 3, etc. Then you have long range radio that can reach 5km distance that command uses, usually, that communicates will all assets. Choppers, armor, and all infantry sections, alpha, bravo etc. All radio is transmitted via second push to talk button.

Now, if you have both a short range radio and a long range radio, you can put one in one ear, and the other in the opposite ear. You don't always have the long range if you are not a Squad Leader, but when you are it is so cool to hear your squad in one ear, and then listen to command chatter in the other ear.

All radio waves are affected by terrain. So if you are in a valley, you will come of as choppy and unclear if there are obstacles or elevation in your way. That is when you have to use an RTO - Radio Transmission Officer, who lugs around a huge radio with better range and clarity to allow command and assets to communicate with each other.

Check out this video. Squad comes in contact with enemy armor, and at 1:05 you can hear the squad leader radio'ing in to command element (they always stay behind the battle unless desperately needed) that they encountered enemy armor. If possible, they would have given map coordinates - 6 digit - as well. The reason you can hear him talking to command is because the player recording was close to his squad lead and within ear shot. At 3:09 Alpha Leader again updates status with command.

It is amazing man, really immersive, and this is why I can't play COD, even BC:2 or anything like that anymore.

So this is all with ACE mod and ACRE mod, and many are playing this until PR:Arma2 comes out, but even then, the ACE/ACRE community will remain strong.

You don’t have to sell me on ArmA, you know. I’m more of a casual fan, though. A buddy and I occasionally build ridiculous scripted missions and play the hell out of it for a weekend.

I remeber you mentioning you played, but ACE/ACRE mods add a whole new dimension to the vanilla CO game. I'm trying to sell you on the mods. :) It is a pain to update regularly to get on the better servers, but I can help anyone with that, or at least point you in the right direction.

I’ve never played ArmA or ArmA 2 (or OA) online as a serious milsim. It’s always just been me and my friend stacking crates of ridiculous gun loadouts and marching into cities to take on occupying Praying Mantis forces, or something of that ridiculous CoD nature.

I’m definitely interested in playing online with these mods, but it’s a low priority for me at the moment.

Not necessarily a priority for me to play a game either, but when I do I play Arma II.

I just realized that line probably sounds like it could be for the most unintersting man in the world commercial. lol.

 I mean that playing ArmA 2 online is itself a low priority for me, at least until I beat DNF. The Youtube videos of squads going through online missions looks fun as hell, though.
