wouldn't a different skill set throw off the rhythm of the offense in having to get used to 2 different type players? I'm more of a continuity kind of guy, but that's not to say you're wrong and I'm right.

    Great points, Frayser.

It's not like Bulger is chopped liver or that we have any chance in finding Peyton Manning 2.0 between now and week 1. Bulger is an experienced vet who would obviously keep Henne on his toes. He was a backup to Flacco and certainly was good enough to push Joe, so why can't he do the same in Miami?

Bulger wouldn't offer us much that Henne doesn't have. The only available player out there that we can get without trading a draft pick is Vince Young. Young also just happens to have the kind of mobility that may be a great fit in Daboll's system.

Plus I think there is a large advantage in having a backup Qb whose skillset is different from the Starters' skillset, it makes things difficult for Defenses as if they game plan for Henne, and Young plays with his mobility and touch down the field, the Defenses' game plan is in trouble, if Young starts and Henne comes in with his good touch and accuracy around the LoS it also gives the Defense trouble as all of the spying and coverage schemes are not as useful.

    That's already happened.

Can't undo what's already been done. And you're right, Carson was never on the menu. What options do we have? Kevin Kolb? That's one of the very few moves that have been on the table that have a premium price tag and are regarded as a strong move, that I would say "No, thanks" to.

Give up a 2nd rounder for Kyle Orton? That's not a premium move. That's more A.J. Feeley stuff, to me. Solid player, probably an upgrade, not someone that is going to get you anywhere, and in the end you're just wishing you had that 2nd round pick back...especially as it could be in the 30's.

Vince Young? That's the kind of desperation move that happens typically just before a staff is fired. With a lockout-shortened off season, Mr. Lazy probably wouldn't even beat Henne for the job. But you'd have to put him out there at some point just to justify the acquisition. And when he gets to the huddle and doesn't even know the play that was called, that's not going to help the team feel optimistic that everything is heading in the right direction. By all means if you want to suck for Luck then Vince is a good option I think. Not sure I can stomach the idea of purposely doing that.

Donovan McNabb wouldn't wear a play card on his wrist, even though he had trouble with the playbook, because he thought it looked dumb. More worried about fashion than winning? Excellent. Not to mention Donovan is a career west coast offense guy and the record of those guys suddenly going non-WCO...not so good.

They're all just ineffective moves when you look at them, with the lone exception being Palmer. If Orton's price tag is a lot lower than purported, great. Try that one on for size. If not though, the move that makes the most sense is the most painless. That could be Bulger. And who knows, lightning could strike twice...Bulger could be this year's Pennington. Whether we should be happy about an ineffectual playoff run led by an aged quarterback that only assures that we don't pick high enough to get a crack at an elite young quarterback...well, that's up for debate.

Personally I say why not grab your most cost-effective option at QB, like Caleb Hanie or maybe Marc Bulger, focus on adding a stud like DeAngelo Williams, then bring along some help for the defense that might actually give it a chance at being the top 5 defense that it wasn't in 2010.

I have nothing to add. Frayser and ckparrothead nailed my exact sentiments.

I have a hard time seeing Mike Brown eating $10M just to play hardball. The guy is a ****ty owner, but mainly because he cares more about his profits than the actual product he puts on the field.

It's just how he is. You'd think he'd be about the $ in this scenario, but he did the same thing to Chad Johnson. He's just that stubborn, but he acutally likes Carson Palmer and wants him to come back to the Bengals. It's up to Palmer in that regard.

I’d agree, but the combination of, say, DeAngelo Williams, Quintin Mikell, and Evan Mathis might be enough to save Sparano’s job. Do we really want that? Especially since we’d still be stuck with Henne in 2012 and beyond if that happened. Sparano would never have the job security necessary to replace Henne with a rookie QB, and besides, do we really want him coaching up (read: coaching down) Landry Fields or Nick Foles?

OTOH, just from a purely “let’s make the Dolphins better” perspective, Josh Wilson would be a great stealth pickup.

Did Brown ever eat $10M for Johnson to not do anything?

    Henne this, Henne that

too many of the same silly posts & wishful thinking (redundant) "all about Henne"
    1) if there is to be a reasonable regular season this year, we need competition on the cheap in the QB stable.
    2) fix what can be fixed in 2011, then go for the franchise QB in 2012. there will in all probability be no definitive answers to the QB question this year.
    3) if a QB can step up & run the offense in a yeoman-like fashion, then we may have an enjoyable season & an opportunity for the rest of the team to progress considerably. we need a veteran with an up-side looking for a second chance to come on board, one that won't break the bank & leave us without recourse to finally draft the one we need.
    4) the only way you will see anything different/positive out of Chad Henne is if there is serious competition in the stable & then I honestly don't believe the guy has what it takes to start, much less be a franchise QB in the NFL. I wish him well, but doubt we will see anything spectacular from him in 2011. may I be proven wrong for the good of the team. the sooner we find the franchise QB, the sooner we'll get a shot @ the SuperBowl.
    5) I believe the franchise QB is one draft away. this is the year to build & refine the rest of the team

may the Hen sprout wings & soar like an Eagle or be traded to them @ the end of the year:thanx:

p.s. bulger, palmer, vince young anyone of them would do if the price was right

I like a 3rd plus a player (DL?) for Kyle Orton. He could get us to the playoffs for the next couple of years, imo, while we look to the draft for our future Franchise QB.

Big time overpayment for a mediocre QB.

Based on what evidence? Seriously, what are people seeing in Kyle Orton that I’m missing? Was he on some people’s fantasy football rosters?

It's no secret the Marc Bulger isn't a fan of MM system. After all getting killed on damn near every pass play made him gunshy.

I seriously doubt with Daboll on staff Bulger even returns the phone call.

Orton is an established starter though and Feeley had 5 starts before we traded for him. Whatever Orton is or would be for us in the future, IMO, it is not accurate to compare a trade for him with the trade for Feeley. Also, how about if we traded a conditional 3rd for Orton that would become a 2nd if he took over half the offensive snaps and we also made the playoffs? Would that still be too high a price in your estimation, or do you think Denver would never go for it? If Henne retained the starting job, it would only cost a 3rd and that doesn't seem too high for a proven NFL starter still in his prime, to have as our #2. A lot of teams seasons go into the crapper for lack of a good #2. Can you imagine if we had a #2 the level of Orton when Fiedler got hurt in 2002 rather than a Ray Lucas? That was a solid playoff team had Fiedler stayed healthy, or if we'd had a better #2.

not to squander treasure on another disappointment
pick up an available veteran QB on the cheap with an upside to compete
we're not going to the Superbowl anytime soon
better to develop what we have, then go for the franchise QB next draft
