The "late arriving Heat fan" is the stupidest canard the media has tossed out. You are right, the fans are there, it just takes awhile to get to the seats. And when the games were 7:00 starts, you're asking alot for people who work to get there exactly on time. And what happened when the games started at 8:30 or 9:00 like last night? Every seat basically filled at tip off. Simmons is the worst offender here, which is why I truly hate the man. Hate on the team all you want, but why make it personal with the fans, many of whom I'm sure bought his book and read his columns? When the Heat wins the title I am buying Simmons book in paperback and urinating on it.
But see, you are arguing that they are IN the arena, or PURCHASED a ticket - I'm arguing they are making noise.
What did you think of his book? I am only half-way through the pyramid but have enjoyed it so far. It isn't the gospel - but hard to argue the amount of time he spent on it. I go back and forth on loving and hating Simmons, but I thought the book was tastefully done and less whiny than his columns.
huh I always thought it was the 90 degree heat??.........oh yeah they dont play 1pm games anymore.......sorry carry on.....
It's a huge book, and Simmons obviously really likes basketball and cares about the sport, but I'm just not sure that his conclusions make much sense. And he still let his personal biases creep in. He bashes Heat fans in that book too. And once in a while he's funny. If he didn't think I'm a crappy fan and he didn't constantly insult me and my friends I could probably forgive and forget his criticism of the Heat, but he's made it personal. And until he makes a mea culpa, then I have no inetrest in him or anything he says.
For the first few minutes, which is why the lower bowl isn’t full at tip-off. Then they go to their seats. All you have to do is watch a game to see this happen. I remember at least four early-season “man, this place is loud” comments by TV announcers at Heat games. Just like I remember plenty of “man, this place is loud” comments by TV announcers at the Ravens @ Dolphins 2008 playoff game and the 2009 Jets @ Dolphins MNF game. And now it’s even louder at Heat games. The fans are there, whether you want to realize this or not. If it goes against your preconceived notions reinforced by ESPN and message boards, fine. But it doesn’t make your impressions true.
It takes about 15 - 20 minutes to get through security to enter AAA. This is new this year and probably because of Lebron. This is unique to any arena / stadium I've been to, and contributes to fans "entering late." I say this as a Heat fan that actually goes to games. Not as a media gas bag.
You are not wrong? LOL. You are either LEBRON JAMES or you are most likely wrong, since you can;t possibly tell me or anyone what HE feels.
I make it a point to be THERE at my seat at tip off. I get to the arena on time. I missed 4 tip offs this year due to the security checks.
Not only that, but the traffic and parking are nightmares. When I used to work on Brickell I went to probably 10-15 games per year and the people mover was just a life saver.
I can't imagine? If it was me it would bother me greatly I couldn't get the job done somewhere where I was expected too, it's human not too. And I would also be greatly shocked that it did not bother him leaving Cleveland with the job not done even if left with his head up high, and there is nothing wrong with it if you are a proud man. And when he wins I'm sure there will be a part of him that wishes this job was done in Cleveland and without the help of Bosh and Wade. To say it's crazy to think so is crazy in itself.
Could I be just as right in saying that he probably resented Cleveland for "wasting" his time? and feels that there was no way he could have won?
If i'm playing amateur psychologist, I would imagine Cleveland was pretty suffocating for LBJ. Not only was he expected to carry the team and single handedly break "Cleveland's curse" but nothing less than the economic fate of the entire city was placed on his shoulders. If you were a basketball player and were told that the entire economy of your city depended on you staying and playing well,l would you think that was great or would you get the hell out of there. Personally, I would run as fast as I could and "F" the city. That's too much to put on any one person, espescially a basketball player, who is just an entertainer.
Umm...I haven't looked outside today but I don't think it is a bunch of ruins and dustweeds outside the window? The "whole economy" thing is a narrative put out by people outside of Cleveland. (Ok and one comedian IN Cleveland in the "Cleveland Tourism" video)
With all due respect, I believe you argued it yourself in the "Summer of 2010" Thread. And obviously, the argument was ridiculous but it was just one more thing to put on a guy that instead of encouraging him to stay actually pushed him away.
I don't remember saying it, but I very well could have - I'd have to see if the comments and context. If so, count me in with Harold Camping as people who have misjudged the rapture this year.
Great comeback by the Mavs, and a now-rare chokejob by the Heat’s team D. They thought that game was over at the 3 minute mark. Nope. We have a Finals now. Can’t wait for these three games in Dallas.
The last time a team overcame a 15+ point 4th-quarter deficit in the NBA Finals was June 14, 1992, when the Bulls came back to beat the Trail Blazers. wonder if it was with 7 minutes left
Miami just continues playing average basketball and it's 2-0. They reverted back to November hero ball and it cost them. No excuse, Wade and James stopped playing. Still Miami's series. They still dictate what happens out there. Tonight proved it. But they didn't make things easy on themselves to be sure.
This game was a game of runs... and the Mavs just finished off with the biggest run of the game. Frankly, the way the Mavs turned the ball over (and yes, credit the Heat D) they didn't deserve to win the game... until the Heat decided to launch a 3 fest for no apparent reason. They had everything going for them and they lost their mind. I haven't watched much of their games this year, nor have I seen much of Chris Bosh in his career, but is this guy pulling the biggest disappearing act in the NBA finals or what? Lebron and Wade are superstars, there's no doubting that, but they are missing that consistent third scorer... dearly. It doesn't have to be the same guy every game, but it does have to be someone. Hey, I'm just glad this is going to be a good series now. As an impartial fan...
He put up 19 points in game 1 and has been an EXCELLENT defender for the entire playoffs. Everyone will see Dirk going by him at the end of game 2, but it’s unfair as hell.
Bosh has been massive in the playoffs. And the Heat have gotten that third scorer consistently. Wasn't Bosh's best game, but they got 14 from Bibby tonight. People will make too much of this game and how it went down. The Heat stopped playing, simple as that. Prior to that, they easily played well enough to win.
Can't figure out why the Heat didn't foul, with a foul to give there at the end... neither can Dirk, he made his move early and then thought "well, I'll just keep going."
Per Wade, mental breakdown. Players and coaches talked about it (the foul) in the huddle. And then Haslem was late to help. I think half of them were off balance in the last 6 minutes.
The Heat play great D. It’s not strange to rely on that rather than hoping that one of the best shooters in the NBA misses a free throw...
That had nothing to do with why the Mavs came back. The Mavs are some of the most over the top celebrators in the NBA.
The next game could go either way. This is usually around the time in a series when one team realizes that their opponent is better than they are. Happens in most series. Should the Heat come out and control the game as they have the last two games then the Heat likely win the series. However, should Dallas be buoyed by last night, and they control the game or take it away again late, then the Mavs I think win the series.
