Brother Eric if you an the misses like to come to the warmth, Carlsbad might be a great stop for you. You can enjoy the beach, great restaurants, and Pizza Port is like 4 blocks from the beach. I live here so if you need help planning a vacation let me know and I will do what I can. Sierra Nevada's are strong to some, but for me they start to go down too easy.
i feel the same way about Guinness, tbh. and i love stouts. i find guinness to be nearly tasteless. it has a good mouthfeel, but thats it.
i just saw that place on "drinking made easy" show on HDnet. its the same guy that did the show "three sheets" if you ever saw it
Couple rounds on me if you ever make it. Maybe brother FFIC will make his way down too The denver scene I hear is awesome too. I've only been once, and it was a snowboarding trip and it flat out dumped the night we were planning to hit the town and go to one of the bigger beer bars there (I forget the name) so I didn't get to go unfortunately. TOo bad the GABF isn't a little later so I could coordinate a snowboard/beer fest trip. My fiance just came back from Santa Rosa and I asked her to grab me some brew from Russian River and also 3rd Street Ale works. They're literally within a few blocks of each other (maybe even less). . But I'm in DC so I hope they dont' go stale!
I might have to make that trip since we couldn't meet for a beer at Seau's last time the Dolphins were in town.
NO I haven't, but now I must look for this show! Me too! It's a decent pour, but also goes flat after the initial taste.
Carlsbad is fine too I haven't checked out the place. Solana has a rustic feel to it, the Carlsbad location is a bit more refined right?
Eric I haven't done this but it could be a lot of fun. http://brewerytoursofsandiego.com/breweries.html
Name Tag lager from Trader Joe's...$2.99 a sixer. Cheap but certainly better than the bottom rung (Bud, etc.) and actually, not bad at all in and of itself.
So I actually had a pretty cool experience a couple of weeks ago...if you ever come to NYC there is a German restaurant on 82 and 5th in the city that I could neither pronounce or spell. They serve boots of beer much like in beerfest. Its pretty awesome...2 liter boot of pretty good german beers for like $28. I had 1 2 liter and 1-1 liter. As for beers, Sam Adams always!

did anyone try the Sam Adams Infinium beer this past holiday season? wasn't bad, though they called it a "champagne of beers" which is a blatant ripoff of high life
Have to say, even though I live in Boston, the Sam Adams beers, are for the most part, mediocre at best. I've lived all over the country, and the best beers are by far found in the Pacific Northwest. Oregon, Washington, and even Alaska have the best tasting microbrews in the country. Part of it is due to sheer number of microbrews, so the best ones turn out pretty fantastic. best beers on tap: Alaskan Amber (especially if you get it while you're in Alaska), Rubinator (combination Terminitor Stout and Ruby Red from McMinnimans' Pubs) and Full Sail Amber, followed by Widmer Hefeweisen best bottled beers: Mirror Pond Pale Ale from the Deschutes Brewery and Bridgeport IPA
Made a trip to Lawrence to eat at Free State (the best brew pub in the area) and then Kansas City today ... Stone Brewing is finally starting to distribute in Kansas City. It's the Homebrew competition they do every year at GABF. Basically they pick 3 winners and brew their recipes under the SA name. The theme this year was experimental. There is a Hibiscus Wheat, a Cascadian Dark (Black IPA), and a Belgian IPA. The run is kind of limited, so I would look today if you want to try it.
If you are talking Sam, yes, but I have a keg of it!!! Worked out a deal at the liquor store I work at.
something different....who's willing to track this down and report back?? http://www.brewdog.com/product/royal-virility-performance
Just tried some Shiner Bock this weekend while in Dallas. Yuck! Luckily my fiance only bought me one. Has anyone had Left Hand brews? They don't distribute in Cali
Left Hand out of Longmont CO is very good stuff. The only brewer around here i like better is O'Dells.
Been a homebrewer for about 20 years now, and I travel a little to judge competitions. I can pretty much knock off any style I want, but for the last couple years I have been doing my own recipes. We were on target to open a brewery here this fall, but that has now been delayed. When people find out you've brewed, they suddenly start visiting like they do when you install a pool. I usually do a 10 gallon batch of something easy and light for the masses (a wheat, cream ale, or even a petite saison), but that didn't stop everyone a couple months ago from annihilating my sweet potato ale, or black maple lager. Serves me right for having everything readily on tap. I just opened a saison we made last month. I fermented it at 90 degrees, and typically, it still got stuck at a high gravity (1.035). So we finished it off with some white wine yeast and DAMN, Dupont eat your heart out! We filled 50 750ml bottles of the stuff, and we're NOT sharing this one much! Anyway, when you make as much beer as I do, you don't buy much from the store. I love Biere de Garde and Saison. They are my "lawnmower" beers, and were probably the last ones I bought. For saison, Dupont is king. If you want a good Biere de Garde, try a Castelain. Before that I bought a case of West Coast Old Ale by Bell's Brewing. I've had that one cellared for the last year, and should be pretty darn tasty in a few more months.
Ugh. Shame on all of you for turning beer into something nerdy. Signed, proud drinker of cheap macro beer who drinks to get hammered not to taste cherry and oatmeal
That is a perfect brew for you MB. You pitch a professional volume of yeast in that, and it's ready for drinking in about 5 days or less. No waiting!!!
A buddy of mine who has a similar hobby to yours brews up Cream Ale clones all the time. It's one of the few I enjoy.
It's still a great session beer. It's basically an american lager brewed ale style. You buddy probably brews it for the same reasons I do: It's ready in a jiffy. It appeases those who are "afraid of the dark". It keeps most peoples mitts off the good stuff.
When the wife and I went went on vacation to Egypt back on '06, we had this beer called "Sakara" and you wanna talk about a DELICIOUS and SMOOTH beer!!! I can't seem to find ANYTHING about Sakara on the web anywhere. I was hoping to find some and buy it online, at least I heard you can. When I'm overseas, I do enjoy a good Stella Artis on draft. Back home though, I am a simple man...love my MGD and Corona.
Hey DK, which one did you have? They make three different styles, all to American style guidelines. An American Lager, an American amber, and a malt liquor. As a beer judge, I can tell you that Sakara beer never seems to get a good review. But don't ever let that fool you, as it could be for many reasons other than taste. If your good with Stella and thought the Sakara was that much better, then it was probably pretty tasty.
You're kidding! I've been up that way. It's in Pottsville if I'm not mistaken. I have a good friend from Schukyll Haven, and went up there a couple of times. I got introduced to Yuengling the old-fashioned way: kegs and beer pong! Btw, my fave is a local Mississippi Gulf Coast brew: Lazy Magnolia's Indian Summer. Add a slice of orange and beat the Gulf Coast heat with a smooth, great tasting brew..... And another great one I had when I was up in Blacksburg, VA, at a place called Macadoo's: Hummingbird. It's out of Cali. Man, that was a good one. Thanks to the bartender for hooking me up! He definitely knew his stuff!
