On ESPN, Adam Schefter thinks that Miami could be in play for Plaxico (just released from prison) given the potential legal, and medical, issues with B. Marshall. Thoughts?
There are not significant medical or legal issues with Brandon Marshall, and there isn't really any room for more receivers.
Doesn't every NFL player have "potential" legal or medical issues? I mean... I am potential multimillionaire if I actually played the lottery.

Let me add: If we were to bring in another WR, I would love to see us trade a 4 for Steve Smith from Carolina. This guy plays with fire, is a great leader, doesn't point fingers, and gets the job done game after game. If he doesn't get the ball, he says nothing. When he gets the ball, he makes plays. He'd be a fine addition to a young WR corps in need of leadership. In the past, he had some locker room issues with his temper. Never in legal trouble - just a fiery competitor who goes all out every game day. I'd love to see him in a Dolphins uniform. That being said, the odds of us bringing in another receiver is next to zero. But if we did, Steve Smith would be my pick by far.
They tried to trade for Steve Smith but it fell thru. Outside of Marshall and Bess, we are weak at the Wr spot. Hartline......nothing special Gates.......rookie
Of course. In this case, it's more likely that something (medical/legal) comes from Marshall's off-season endeavors than your winning the lottery.....
To a degree where it's a waste of cap space and resources. How many wide receivers you think you're going to get on the field at once? I think if anything this illustrates how worthless some of the members of the media are when they aren't being fed something through sources.
Eh, could see it if they feel Wallace or Moore or one of the other young Wr's simply won't develop and we need a Red Zone Td threat. But..come on man, they aren't going to sign Burress no matter how much innuendo Schefter engages in about Marshall.
Yeah I know Marshall has had some problems here, but I think were far from getting rid of him. I'm also not thinking he will be diciplined by the NFL for anything, yet that is. He probably is just one small screw up from getting a suspension.

Can Marshall even get in trouble from the NFL? Given that this all happened when they weren't technically a league? I thought I read somewhere that if there is no CBA in place, there is no league. When there is no league, the NFL officials can't act on any off the field issues... I could be way off, but I thought I read that earlier this year.
Giants use 3 WR's. Steelers use 3 because Limas Sweed hasn't panned out. Would be using 4 if Santonio didn't like the blunts. Packers use 4. Colts use 10.5. It all depends on what the team can acquire. I don't think there's a magic number of WR's. I think it's a "get the guys who can help you win" thing. Not sure if I want Burress though.
Gates ?!?!?!? What the hell has he done to make you think he makes us "deep" ????? He's a freakin' rookie who could bomb out just like the similarly heralded John Nalbone from 2 years ago. People need to get a grip, just because the Dolphins pick a player, doesn't instantly make them a star. Especially as badly as this FO has done on the offensive side. Its a wreck that has had to be completely rebuilt after the 1st 3 years. Not a ringing advertisement of their ability.
He has wanted to play for us. IMO his cost will be as low as it will ever be. What would it hurt to let him compete for the hometown discount cost? Deep threat speedsters will really open the run game this staff covets.
Maybe if he'd sign a 1 year incentive laden deal he'd be worth a look in camp but if he's expecting to just be handed a job here then no way. Depends on his attitude and if he is actually in shape. Buress at close to the level he was at in his prime would make our offense better so its worth a look IMHO. I don't think our WR group is so elite that we can just discount a player of this kind of talent.
I would be 100% in favor of Burress. Hes a legit redzone target who will go and get the jump ball. He can make plays after the catch and he is not afraid of the middle of the field. Those are good qualities. I wouldnt mind bringing in a Steve Smith depending on the cost but Burress costs just money, Smith costs money and probably picks. Burress also lives and trains in South Florida..after just being released from prison for 20 months, whatever destination he chooses I am sure he will want to be close to his family. His wife had a child shortly after he was incarcerated.
I'm not in favor of signing Plaxico Burress if it means foregoing any player at a position of greater need. It would be my last priority, and one that I would only take if it meant I had to sacrifice literally nothing/nobody in order to bring him here. Under those conditions, sure he can come on board. He's better than Marlon Moore.
Yes, there are a magic number of receivers. That number is not however many that can get onn the field, or however many famous names you can sign, etc. and so on. Its the number of receivers you can reasonably use given your offensive situation, with proper resource allocation, development, etc. in mind. Committing to give five wide receivers a significant number of snaps is too many for the Dolphins. You do not use four wide receivers with any regularity if you have a ****ty quarterback situation. Its too many for pretty much all but a handful of elite teams. That's not getting into the fact the guy in question is 34 years old, shot himself in the leg in a position where the leg is kind of important, hasn't played football in a couple years, and frankly wasn't all that good when he was last playing either.
You just proved there isn't a magic number by showing that it's relative to team situation. I decided against putting the last part of my post which said "I really don't want him here if he eliminates a core special teams or situational player from the active roster". I deleted it because some people might not see it that way and I'm pretty tired of arguing with people I don't know who like to catch feelings.
Could be worth a shot. We could always use another weapon. Though he is just another possession guy. Either way, whatever gets this offense firing on all cylinders, and putting more holes into teams' secondaries. Doubt it, unless he suddenly develops explosion and burst. He is a veteran and IMO more of a leader than Marshall so he could be the shot in the ...arm this rather young receiving corps needs.
We have Brandon Marshall in his prime. If Marshall was hurt, I'd love to have Burress be his replacement, but how often is Burress going to see the field with Sparano as our coach? a few times a game? If Burress is happy riding the bench behind Marshall, and is cheap, I'd be okay with it. But, I'd rather give some opportunities to try and develop Gates for a few plays a game than Burress. Burress does not stretch the field, neither does Marshall, neither does Bess. If those are our 3 WRs, and Fasano is our TE, then the defense gets to play a short field. Big disadvantage to Chad Henne.
This is assuming that the FO and coaches think highly of Brian Hartline, which they may or they may not. And if they do not then I'm sure they'd be looking to upgrade. Well he was very important in their 07 SB run. And IIRC in '08 they started 11-1 with him. After he shot himself the team went 1-4 as their offense stuttered. He was VERY important to that team. The rest I agree with, however.
Usually I'd imagine a guy just out of jail is relatively cheap. And if this is one of his top destinations his asking price may stay cheap. Like I said, if there is literally no desirable free agent or trade option that I can look at and say "If we get Plaxico Burress, we can't get this guy" then what do I care if we sign Burress? He's better than Marlon Moore. Nothing wrong with that. But I'm not sacrificing any other position to do it.
They may not? Based on what? He was given a starting job last offseason. He by all measures performed well relative to his draft, contract, opportunity costs, and up to the standards of his position. He had 450 receiving yards in 10 games in 2008. That's the last time we saw Plaxico Burress. Before he shot himself in the league and was out of football for two years.
Since he has his home in Florida already and he wants to spend time with his family he should be a more affordable option.
Well, if we're gonna make a move, it's important that we don't shoot from the hip but make an informed and well-thought out decision on this guy. No sense in shooting ourselves in the foot for the sake of acquiring another big name. We must not be impulsive.

We make our bones with on target analysis of the Miami Dolphins and I really think these puns are aiming in the wrong direction.
I'ld gladly sign him for a reasonable price. He would only improve the WR core we have and it would not cost us any draft picks. Depending on the contract we sign him too and the season he has he might even become trade bait down the road.
