There was a rumor around that the Dolphins could be interested in Plaxico Burress but I think that interest if it ever existed was a couple of years ago before we traded for B.Marshall and before Plaxico's jail sentence. Now he is a 34 yr old player out of football for 2 yrs .Pass. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...ns-are-not-interested-in-plaxico-burress.html The blog does mention Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards as being more interesting F.A.s
I never bought it. I think he would be too much of a one-dimensional player for us. Santonio Holmes would be fantastic, but part of me thinks we're done at the offensive skill positions. I think we may look at bringing in a guard and, as has been suggested, a guy like Manny Lawson to help solidify the OLB position.
Santonio Holmes is good enough IMO to go after no matter what our current WR corps looks like. Marshall + Holmes + Bess + occasional dose of speed from Gates is a signficant upgrade over Marshall + Bess + Hartline. Plus, it will make Sanchez and those sorry *** Jets actually work harder to win games, no more relying on heaving it up to Holmes and letting him be a playmaker to score the winning TDs.
I didn't buy into Miami potentially being interested in Plaxico. However, I'm not so sure Miami wouldn't be interested in bringing in a guy like Santonio Holmes. We all have our criticisms and, at times, compliments about Ireland and Sparano. And one thing we know for sure - about Ireland at least - is he all about upgrading when an opportunity presents itself. He's good at going out and grabbing unheralded gems (Bess, Wake) and he certainly knows a play maker like Holmes. I wouldn't rule it out by any means. Our defense, other than another safety and probably (and hopefully) a LB, is pretty solid all the way around and another year under Nolan, I will go out on a limb and say we will be a top 5 defense. Offensively, however, you can't pass on an opportunity to grab offensive play makers, and we certainly need them. Can't count on rookies to be "the man" right off the bat. Bringing Holmes in would be HUGE for our offense. And it makes sense. He's a Florida native. He is a deep threat - which would take pressure off Marshall and our TEs (Fasano). And he has a career average of 16 YPC. I think he has to be someone Miami is talking about in earnest. Does it happen? Who the hell knows. But the FO would be foolish not to be strongly considering it.
We already have an over rated possession WR with trouble written all over him. Why in the hell would we want another?
Oh, I agree. I'm just a glass-half-empty guy when it comes to offseason moves. I think we as fans tend to lean in the opposite direction because we're never the ones writing checks or thinking about future cap implications. It just seems to me like, if we were to sign Manny Lawson, Marc Bulger, Jerious Norwood, and a quality guard, that would about meet my expectations for the "splash" we're going to make in free agency. And if we really want to make one big splash, I think DeAngelo Williams makes a lot more sense.
I would absolutely love to see us sign DeAngelo Williams. He would be a great addition and we'd have a young two headed monster in the backfield. It's easy to be a fantasy player and want this guy and that guy - because I'd like to see us sign both Williams and Holmes. I don't see it as something that is unrealistic. Adding the guys you named would be relatively cheap, so adding a couple of big name, bigger money players like Holmes and Williams wouldn't be out of the question additionally.
Signing Holmes would be devoting way too many resources to the WR position. We'll have two of the highest paid WRs in the league counting against our cap. Wouldn't mind signing Williams though.
Not that there's a lot of excuse for the poster in question but he might have been talking about the guy in the thread title.
I would investigate Plax, Dwilliams, Holmes, Bradshaw, D'qwell Jackson, and Bush for my skill position players
I thought you were kidding..........but honestly I would welcome Holmes in a heartbeat. He would add another dimension to our offense and help open Marshall up. Burress won't be able to do that.
I did not realize Plax is 34 but I still would not be disappointed to see him on our roster if it happens
Smokescreen? I posted earlier that Schefter thought Miami could be in play only to post relevant Dolphin news since there really has not been much lately. With that, I am not a fan of bringing the guy in. If he does come, however, I would root for him. St. Louis makes more sense, IMO.
