Well, he out ran Ronnie Brown last year. Not in terms of total yards (he didn't get as many touches). But in terms of yards per carry, he out shined Ronnie Brown. He is a more consistent runner and he does it without the benefit of the WC, where Ronnie, for the past two seasons, has picked up a big chunk of his total yards and padded his ypc. Neither looked good last season. Maybe with improved interior line play, they would both play better. But if we're talking about signing one or the other to a short term deal, I'd definitely go with Ricky. He is cheaper, he's a veteran, still has some burst and damn good vision. He'd also be the one I'd choose to mentor Daniel Thomas with his work ethic.
I think ive seen enough of the 2..last year was very weak in many ways imo..I thought the two were isolated and in their own world.and not much help to the team in terms of production or leadership..The aggressiveness in their nature was not there last year, they were unenthusiastic, and their games showed it..Was that because of a poor interior, maybe some, but their simply was no heart when they ran the football, disconnected. I also think their might be some hesitation by Henne in leading the team with them here. I would think about signing ronnie on the cheap, as long as he finally understands how to train properly..I would love to know what hes been doing this offseason, that would tell us a lot in terms of his value to us.
His rant was more about the coaching staff and the scheme as far as I recall. I may be remembering wrong. Would be interesting to see if you could produce a direct quote of Ricky throwing Henne under the bus.
When he was asked about the difference between the Pats and us, he said quite plainly "they have a quarterback."
Only criticism of coaches I recall was him saying in that interview was that Sparano micro-manages too much.
That's the one I remember. Not a particularly cool thing to say about a teammate....or ex-teammate, or whatever.. Stay classy, Ricky.
That sounds like frustration to me...... Got a link? Besides there are only a hand full of teams that couldn't make that comparison. Never mind I see it. He also had comments toward Marshall. Does that mean Brandon can't play here if Ricky comes back? This quote explains the frustration even better....... "I'm not angry at my teammates. I'm angry at the situation. That's the coaches, myself, teammates, that's everyone. That's the whole environment that we have there, and I'm just frustrated that it's not better."
It was in the same interview as all the stuff about Sparano micro-managing. There are lots of ways to excuse the statement, but I tend to agree with DePhin. It's one thing to point out that they have Tom Brady. It's another to imply that Chad Henne isn't even a quarterback. Ricky took the latter route. So when he talks about there needing to be cooperation for him to return, he should be looking directly in the mirror.
The problem I have with that is that Ricky is generally a very thoughtful guy in that he tends to really think before he speaks and means what he says. I think he's a good guy, and I can totally understand his frustration. When he said that stuff it just seemed like he was trying to burn the bridge as he left town.
Ricky Williams and Brandon Marshall get along and Ricky made it a point once to say that anything he says about him on the radio he's already said to him in person. He never really said anything about about Brandon though, in fact I've heard Brandon say the exact same things about himself that Ricky Williams said about him. But you never heard Ricky Williams say "we don't have any receivers".
So this one statement out of frustration means that he has truly and vocally given up on Chad Henne? I don't think that is the case at all. I think Ricky was angry that we got our butts handed to us by the Pats and he was letting off steam. He was pissed about all of it.
The question to me is does Ricky want to win and does he want to play football? The dedicated Ricky probly still has game BUT the lazy Ricky seems to be his mode lately. We need hungry rbs not one just around to retire. Which Ricky would we get at this point?
I don't know if RW has lost it or not yet, but I can tell you that with the OL play of last year, neither RW, RB, Cobbs or Hilliard had much of a chance to make an impact. At this point, if RW becomes extremely cheap to keep...then Sparano and co. will be giggly...The lockout will have a major impact on whether or not he's here with us... The shorter the 'real' offseason work time is, the more likely he stays here....
Totally untrue. His only other team, the one with all the pressure, tradddfded everything for him. we woukd be wise to consider him!!!
Ricky's reliability from a work ethic standpoint shouldn't really be in question. He's won over multiple skeptical administrations since his "retirement".
What's the point of keeping a 34 year old RB? We'll be better off bringing in any new young RB in his place.
Exactly, to me that is what it boils down to in the end, do they and "we" want to see a 34 yr old Rb come back for another tour of duty or do they and we wish to see a younger player get the snaps Ricky receives? And keep in mind, Hilliard at least plays Special Teams, RW is just a RB, a #3 running back who maybe winds up with 80 touches max? Or Hilliard or Sheets? Personally I think Ricky still has fuel in the tank, I also think Daboll's system will fit him better then it does Ronnie Brown, but with Daboll turning Peyton Hillis into a beast I really wish to see what Lex Hiliard can do as the two have similar skillsets imo.
You're right. He's ready to return to 2002 form at age 34 after showing absolutely nothing last year. And the best thing is he is a great receiving back! Good mentor, too.
The thing with Ricky Williams is again, he's got very good vision and decision making skills, and he might be in a rushing situation in which those are disproportionately rewarded. Really? Absolutely nothing? I'm ambivalent on them bringing Williams back or not, but let's be realistic. He averaged 4.2 yards per carry with bad blocking. That's not bad at all.
Well that is what stood out to me with his pugnacious comments. His "cooperation from others"....WTF ? GTFOH with that attitude dude. You aren't that good, or that valuable to us to throw us attitude anymore. Go back to RuPaul's Drag Show with that attitude !
He shouldn't be telling others about cooperation at all. He has been one of the most selfish players to ever don a Miami Dolphins uniform.
Nice change up, I was all set to come back with a "you're a Towel!" picture of Towelie. LOL Too bad Sick isn't around much these days. Anyone know how his broadcasting stint is working out?
lol It's just not that big a deal. And he makes so litte $ that saying he's selfish just seems silly. Obviously, other players agree that he's a great teammate too so... Many, many players have done a lot worse things than Ricky and his retirement.
I made it sound too professional (whoops). I was just referring to the blogtalk he does, but I hope he's on to bigger and better things.
It was a big deal to me, because it sunk our season bro. Don't you remember that ? And I wouldn't think too much of the guys if they threw Ricky under the bus. That is not what being a teammate is all about. Don't you guys see that ?
Idk man I think everyone moved on, including the players. They all talk highly of Ricky and how good a teammate he is. That's all that matters to me.
