Think you are waay overrating the effect of coaches and confidence on a player, especially a Qb.

Each qb is a bit different the idea that they must be coached up, Kyle Shanahan like, is folly imo.

    Did I read that wrong?

As for the rest of it, agree to disagree.

Yep, one is internal confidence, the other something a coach can impute, which rarely happens, a guy is confident or they are not, a Qb Guru rarely works let alone "Joe Position Coach", I'm of the opinion that Henne is the type who will work the best on his own accord.

    Sure.

My mistake. Must have been that I read the reply above that one and then the next one immediately and was left questioning.

I agree in that context..Defenses that we face this year who have been together under the same scheme will seemingly have advantages over an offense that can't install their offense til training camp..

This is a great test for Henne though, because if he can make his guys more focused during that crucial training camp because of the unity they have created during the offseason then we should take that into account..

Week 1, against the best mind in the game...an early good luck to Daboll and Henne on that one...in your opinion, does it give us any advantage that he is seeing this scheme for the first time with our players, maybe balancing out the disadvantage somewhat?

Considering the delay in the teaching of it, I don't see how but I could be wrong. What did you have in mind?

Eh, think the Robot is best left alone in a quiet environment to learn things, Imho it will really help him as he tends to be a bit to "the coach said to" in his approach now he can figure it out for himself then hear what the coach has to say then decide for himself what he likes and doesn't like.

No offense to Henne, [and I'm a Henne guy], but if Carson Palmer comes in here, he'd take this team over in a heartbeat. It may still not be the answer we, as fans, are looking for, but even with the Henne led lockout practices, a solid vet QB would take over very easily...

That said, I'm still a Henne guy and hope that this is the catalyst that he needs to become that 'bonafide' NFL type QB we need...

forget it, there is no disadvantage, we'll have to win on defense and special teams if were gonna get it done..Their defensive talent doesn't scare me so maybe we can just match up physically and pound them.

I agree he could use coaching. I would just like that to come from the Green Bay Packers organization.

The wolf was full after 7 wins. Not the best analogy to use there, Chad.

The real question that nobody is asking is how many times does Henne complete three passes in a row at practice...and then take himself out to run a 3 yard Wildseagull play?

As soon as they get into the practice red-zone area, he just walks to the sideline.
"That's what coach had me do all the time!"

Lol any big pass play he runs straight to the sideline to watch the wild cat put him in 3rd and long so he can go practice a screen.

Serious question. Did anyone REALLY crucify him for that? I mean, really? I've never seen anyone seriously criticize the guy for those photos.

    Joke about them, sure.

I don't think teaching the playbook will be a problem so much as Daboll not having a chance to see the plays run at full speed and developing a sense of what we do/don't do well. I suspect that if the lockout ends in time for a full slate of games, we're going to see the teams who are installing new systems approach the preseason w/ a much different mindset than they otherwise would. Instead of ultra vanilla base offense, I think you'll see a bigger emphasis on running "actual plays" and getting the timing and execution down. Screw the subterfuge this year IMO. What good is it for Belichek to not know what we're doing when we don't know what we're doing either?

the chemistry factor can´t be overlooked though, sure it would be better if the coaches would be there but just that the guys are hanging out together and spending time together, although i don´t know if it is "quality time" x´s and o´s wise, only time will tell.It pisses me off that only offensive players are showing up from what we read though.

I think you mistook what I was trying to say. One of the most important aspects in the military is team building. You have to build a team and know without question you can depend on the man to your left and right. Your life very well depends on it. When I was in, that was one of the things I was very fortunate to be gifted in doing, building a team...taking adversity, challenging my soldiers to overcome that adversity and in the end, building strength and unity in my soldiers, showing them they were able to overcome that adversity. It made them stronger, more cohesive and their morale was high.

Right now, our team is facing adversity. Facing it in the lockout. Not having the ability to practice with their coaches, consult with them to better their performance, etc. They're having to confront that on their own, and they are turning to each other to do so...building that unit cohesion, Henne stepping up and taking the lead of the team...relying on one another as they never have before and if they are indeed able to overcome that adversity (which is what I eluded to about "perfect practice makes perfect" and my expressed concern over that), they will be a true team.

That's what I was getting at about the lockout maybe being a blessing in disguise.

and these are words why I have a strong feeling that what you talk about is going to have a tangible impact on our season, and why unless your name is Carson Palmer or Hassellback, your not gonna be able to bleep with that dynamic.

True, and will be a good test of the Parcells/Irish/Sparano "the make up theory" they wanted high character guys who were football heads, now they have them after 4 drafts, if their theory holds water they should be self directed, motivated, players who will do their level best to operate without supervision at this workouts that they are conducting.

The danger is, these things can become so familiar they become half hearted affairs with were they are going out for dinner inciting more debate and effort then the actual practices.

It seems that the workouts held so far are primarily offensive players. For our team its understandable, because of the new offense. I wonder though, if other team's defenses are holding workouts, or it's just something that would only be practical for offensive players, on any team. Has anyone heard whether these voluntary team workouts are getting good defensive player turnouts, on our team or others?
