http://www.dailymail.com/Sports/201106161328 Well, wish him well, he tore his ACL in March playing basketball, and I think most Dolfans love Pennington but did not want to see him play again as his fragility was just to great to be anything other then an illusory "veteran backup".
He could be our QB coach with a bum shoulder and rehabbing ACL. I'd be glad to say hello Chad, goodbye Karl Dorrell.
BTW, your link says just that he is going to do some work for Fox Sports, not that he will necessarily be an announcer. There are a lot of other jobs he could fill.
That I'm not sure of Mr C, we have had a fair share of Qb's filter through here and even with Penny on the roster I cannot say anyone has made a massive improvement in any phase of their game, for example Henne's ball fakes were just as bad in 2010 as Penny's were in the Colts game in 09.
Smart move on Pennington's part, maybe after allowing his body to heal for a year, he'll be able to make another go at it. I wish him well with whatever he decides to do...........
Penny wasn't the QB coach though. Coaches coach, and players play. Oh, I'm sure Penny offered advice at times, but that's going to increase dramatically if he were the coach.
He cant come back after a year out of the game at his age, that is wishful thinking, good luck Penny..... He will come back to coach after this regime gets the boot this year....
Like the other sentiments expressed here, I do wish Pennington well. I do wish he would stay on as a QB coach, but not all players can coach. Don't know if he has what it takes to be a coach, but if he did, I think he'd be a great one. Never any mind numbing numbers during his career other than his completion record. That alone says he's smart and knows how to read defenses, something I'm sure he could help teach Henne.
I don't see why it's inconceivable for Chad to come back after a year off. I'm sure he will continue to be strong in his rehab efforts. I think he's going to find a few things--he's really good at being an analyst and it's a nice gig to have. However, he's such a competitive guy that he's going to find his way back to the game, either in the playing or coaching capacity. Then again, I thought Gruden and Cowher would be back after a year or two.
I wish him well, but hope he never plays again. I think there comes a time when your body starts limiting your choices and as long as he keeps fighting that he'll never be happy and could potentially end up hurting himself more in the long run. As for players coaching, I think a big part is how much of a detail oriented player they were and how well they communicate what they see. For example, I always felt Marino would make the worst passing coach. He played on instinct and his level of analysis seemed limited to "throw to the open guy". CP might be able to channel that competitiveness to coaching successfully though.
Finally, an occupation where he can't tear anything... Hope they make his mic extra light just in case.
Fox just got a little better to watch. Two well liked Dolphins on both stations now, nice. Wonder what exactly he'll be doing.
I think Chad will excel at anything he puts his mind to and I wish him the very best at everything he does but I hope his QB days are over. I would hate to witness him really hurt himself trying to make yet another comeback.
I hope his ACL heals fast. The pregame show wil be a lot better with him performing Loose Yourself to get everyone amped up!!!
