Jake, Do you hire out to rain in other peoples parades? You are sooo good at it that I would consider hiring and sending you somewhere else, anywhere but here. LOL They say misery loves company. Is that why you are here? IF I were ever as negative and miserable with the Dolphins, I would seriously consider looking for another team. What good can you possibly feel when there is no good you post? Take a pill, smoke some grass, or drink a case of beer, and try posting again in the morning.
It's one thing to see faults (which I believe everyone here does), and another to suggest we are at a historically low point, or a laughing stock of the league. We really are no different than 10-15 teams in the league that arent elite, but could make the jump at any time. The biggest difference I see from 2007 to now is the youth on the team. Personnel-wise, our 2007 team wasn't that bad. But it was full of players on the decline. With our current roster, we have plenty of players that are improving year to year, and could continue that trend. I think there are two things you need to be an elite NFL team; a good defense and a good QB. I think one of those looks to be solved. Another hasn't. So while they haven't completely turned the organization around, I have a lot more reason to believe it will happen at some poit than I did in 2007.
There are many things this team/regime has done wrong in the last three years. However, IMO the good has far outweighed the bad. That in itself is a breath of fresh air. We have a lot of young talent who should get better. This is something no one can dispute, How much better, and is it good enough to win a playoff game, is the question to be answered. I like to think they can but again, this is something that must be proven on the field. I look forward to watching it happen.
For me, I look to get three players, who make a difference, in a draft. I look for one to be VG to Pro Bowl level, a second to be a good to VG starter, and a third to be good or in the rotation. Although the jury is still somewhat out, I believe we accomplished this in our first two drafts. In 08, no one will argue with Big Jake, Langford is a VG starter, and Henne, Merling, etc, fill the bill. In 09, VD is close, Smith is close, and Hartline is close to filling what I would want from a draft. I wat on the third year, which is customary to grade a draft, but, do see what I was looking for. Add in the trades for Fasano and Marshall if you like.
"Hello Mr. Cowher, here's your new office." - Stephen Ross. I'm not really sure who the new coach would be, but if this team doesn't make it to the playoffs, Sparano's gone.
The Cowboys were (3-13) in Landry’s last year and Johnson picked Aikman #1 in 1989 and won the show in 1992. The Giants were the (4-12) in Fassel’s last year and Coughlin traded their 4[SUP]th[/SUP] pick in 2004 for Eli Manning and won in 2007. The Saints were (3-13) in Haslett’s last year and Payton picked Bush #2 in 2006 and added Brees the same year to win it in 2009. It took 4 years for all three of these teams to rebuild their rosters enough to compete for a title. I thought it was mildly amusing when the instant gratification crew started pushing for a proven winner for a new head coach, when no head coach has ever won a SB with his 2nd team. A winning home record and a playoff win is a must this year or Ross will have no choice but to blow this thing up.
No, they don't. No team has more players they drafted, comprising their roster than the Packers, and the Steelers are right up there. Both teams are among the least active in free agency. For example, during the 2010 season, the Packers had 38 of their own draft picks on their roster. The Steelers had 33, and the Dolphins had 24.
There's been talk of a remake, but set in LA rather than NYC. I think I read it was to be directed by Tony Scott rather than Walter Hill. However nothing mentioned on Scott's imdb page indicating it has even been announced. IMO, this is a movie ya don't mess with trying to remake. I see no way a remake could be as good as the original.
Well, I think you, Pads and DJ are to be commended for going the extra mile, starting threads on various things to try to keep folks interested.
But the question wasn't if they have a team comprised of draft picks, the question was if they make as many mistakes.
Since the Packers hit on a higher pct of draft picks and delve into the free agent market less frequently, they make less mistakes in player acquisition.
Cowboys after 3 seasons..19 wins and 24 losses. Giants after 3 seasons..25 wins and 23 losses.. Saints after 3 seasons..25 wins and 23 losses.. Miami Dolphins after 3 season..25 wins and 23 losses.. hmmmm...so let me get this strait..this regime has won as many, or more games since their inception {3 seasons} than any other regime has { in 3 seasons} in the modern era.? How is this not put into perspective? This is what I'am talking about Trav..
Thanks guy, appreciate it. My motives are somewhat selfish as I LOVE talking Dolphin football, and hearing the opinions of others, even "some" of the negative ones. LOL I also love learning more. I'm talking to the guys over at PFF about becoming a Dolphins correspondent for them. They are going to send me a game to do an analysis on. They tell me it takes about 10 hours to do it but, with experience, it can take 5-6 hours. I guess I'm going to find out if I know as much as I think I do.
