We're all getting ready for a great holiday week end, and deservedly so after so much BS going on with the game we all love. That seems to pale in comparison to my thanks and admiration for all who will not be bar-b que-ing this week end. Our armed forces will be busy doing other things. In honoring our country, I was curious as to which renditions were best and worst for our National Anthem? Mods may jump on this, and with good reason. However, I claim an Independence exemption. ROSANNE BARR SUCKS!!!!!
Have a beer, brat, burger and steak for me guys. I head out on a mission this afternoon and the 4th...well that'll be just another Monday. Happy Independence Day guys!!!!!
I was only in kindergarten at the time, but I've always remembered Whitney Houston's version of the National Anthem shortly after the first Gulf War started in 1991. I remember it pretty well as my birthday was two days prior to US involvement, and it was being talked about everyone and all over the news. But I remember her rendition of the Anthem pretty well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1QmeEdFOSc A special thanks to all those who have or are currently serving this weekend!
My unquestioned favorite rendition of the national anthem. Never done better.
How could anyone not? Forget about guys risking injury in playing a game. These guys & gals are risking their lives for us.
Without our troops, we could not enjoy the freedom that we have. Unfortunately, our leaders are...... I've already been warned about the politics, so I can't speak my mind. I want to say more, but I better not, the mods wont like what I believe.
While I humbly eat a lobster today, and drink beers for 12 hours, I harp back to the 4th in Iraq in 2003 when we shot flares into the sky to simulate fireworks.....My mind wandered back to what was going on stateside, with my pregnant girlfriend, and stress began to build....However it was always the guys to my left and right that used to pick me up when things are a little rough...... We soldiers do it not to be considered a hero, but rather for country, for family, for friends, and for the guys to the right and left of us..... Stay strong DK, shoot straight, and come home soon my brother....
Oh, you just HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD to rub it in, didn't ya? Only we few who have served and continue to serve understand the stresses of being overseas during difficult times back home, be it a girlfriend who is pregnant and scared for you...or knowing that your grandmother is about to pass away (as what happened to me Sep 09) and you can't get home to say goodbye, it is the bond of brotherhood that gets us through these tough times away from our families on holidays such as this one. I need a favor guys. If ANY of you are near the Fort Benning area, I need you to PLEASE go to the Fort Benning National Cemetery, find the gravesite of Michael Discioscia and lay a flower there on my behalf. We lost Mikey last year when he and two others were shot and killed by an Afghan soldier and even though the first anniversay of his passing isn't until the 20th of this month, Mikey was TRUE patriot. If someone can do that for me, I will be forever grateful.
DK, Good to see a laugh. It could have been worse, and been from the Navy. Sorry I can't take you up on your offer of respecting a fallen comrade, South Beach is quite a ways away.
To T_D_K, wish I could help you out but will say a prayer none the less. As for the BEST imvho it comes from the pipes of Miss LeAnn Rimes:
