Ok, so much hype, and I love westerns. Just saw this finally. what a boring piece of ... And Im not one of those who need non-stop mindless action. Slower movies can capture me. But not this. No way no how. I normally love Jeff Bridges but dear god. Matt damon seemed miscast. The little girl was alright, pretty good. I waited months to watch this (my fiance hates westerns and I'm not a huge theater guy) and was sorely disappointed.
That sucks, I was looking forward to it. I love westerns too. You don't see many good ones. I guess 3:10 to Yuma was the last decent one I can think of.
There are people who love it, so it's a mixed. Just offering up my opinion. My own. Give it a shot, if I lowered your expectations that's never a bad thing! I think I was sold on the action and hype. knowing it was Coen brother film, you knew it wasn't going to be some mainstream movie, but No Country was so awesome, and the trailer, the the hype, got me gassed up. Knowing it's not going to be NCFOM, and that it's not jam packed with action (I think they seriously mis-sold the movie with the trailer) you might actually enjoy it, seriously. It's a gorgeous movie, and there were some good parts. Give it a try, let me know how you like it. 3:10 to Yuma was awesome. Pleasantly surprising. You know what else is a good but off the wall movie? The Good, The Bad, The Weird. it's an asian western and it was awesome!
I felt it was okay, but a lot of people knocked it down for me right before going in. I agree about Matt Damon. This is going to sound weird but...he is too pretty of a guy to be in a western. I know that is sort of the point of Bridges always bagging on him in the movie, but he still stood out. I thought Bridges did well himself, but overall, the movie was in between okay and good for me. It was no where near great. Barry Pepper was good in it as well though.
I liked it alot, even as compared to the John Wayne version, which won best picture I believe. The thing about it that threw me was they made it very clear that it was NOT a remake of the previous film, but in actuality it did not stray very far from it. They added some Coen touches here and there, but beyond that it stayed pretty true to the original movie.
Barry Pepper is always awesome. I can't think of a role where he wasn't good. Yes if someone had told me, it wasn't what you think it was, before going in, I might have enjoyed it more. As such I kept expecting something that wasn't, and that ruined it for me I think. Plus I was hoping for some of this: As for Matt Damon, I guess it's the goofy role he plays. I'm not into Damon's movies when he has to play a goofy role, it's just not him. Overall, the movie had it's moments, it wasn't terrible, or bad. If the pacing was slightly sped up, just a little, I could have enjoyed it more. Some of the scenes were great though. It has/had promise.
That's what I heard, that it didnt' stray even in dialog much from the original, although it just took a more serious turn (the original wasn't meant to be comedic but I heard it was unintentionally so). Have any of you guys seen the good, the bad, the weird? If not try it, tell me what you think. I found it quite fun.
i knew nothing about the story going in. i had no idea the main character was young girl that was rather annoying lol. i hate any movie where the smartest person is a teenager or younger its pretty well made though. but i would rather they did a western with a different story
First of all, since its Coen Brothers movie it means it will have Roger Deakins as DP. That makes it guaranteed that every frame is a work of art you could hang on your wall. With him manning the camera for a movie, that movie cannot be under a C grade because at least its stunningly beautiful. The pace was fine for me. But what I really loved is that dialogue was essentially Old West meets Shakespeare viewed through the Coen brothers who write some of the best dialogue you'll ever hear.
I actually enjoyed it as much as the original. I thought damon did a great job. His character was supposed to be pretty. The talkative narcissistic pretty boy cowboy who finally gets dirty at the end.
Old West meets Shakespeare = David Milch = Al Swearengen. Loved that show, so disappointed they cut it short for ... John From fracking Cincinnati.
