Rumblings were abound last night as news broke that Tiger Woods had scheduled a live announcement with the Golf Channel for Monday morning. Last week he had pulled out of the British Open, starting later this week, due to injuries. Speculation was that he would announce sitting out the rest of the year to recover. Or perhaps he was going to announce a new round of surgery. Or, exactly what his relationship was with Dr. Anthony Galea (after pleading guilty to smuggling HGH into the country). Or just flat out retire!

Now comes news his agent Mark Steinberg has said there will be NO announcement. This is an odd one.

He needs to take the rest of the year off. Get his family situation straightened out. Get his swing corrected. Come back ready to dominate.

Well, the reason for his swing change was due to the injuries right? The swing change, the injuries, the off the course distraction all happened in the same year or so. I don't think he'll ever be the same... doesn't mean he can't win a major or two... but he'll never be the dominant force he once was. Rory McIlroy on the other hand...

I'm not sure it was necessarily because of injuries. I think a lot of it was just his and Haney's relationship deteriorating. Foley is a stack and tilt guy. He's still putting enormous stress on his left leg, because on his backswing he pivots off the left. I think if you want to look at a cause for his injuries, its mainly because he overdeveloped his upper body. But thats really another story.

Tiger absolutely can get back to the domination we've seen from him in the past. He's so much more talented than everyone else in the world. Its a matter of practice and repetition at this point. I'm assuming the divorce has really forced him out of consistent practice routine. Whether he ever gets back to it, I'm not sure. But I think if he does, he's going to get back to winning often.

McIlroy is a great young player. But I don't see him dominating. You rarely see golfer's dominate. He's flown under the radar, but courses are going to start making it hard for him. We see it any time someone looks like they're on the cusp of domination.

Well, so much for a GOLF Channel ratings hike.

I'm not too sure Tiger will ever dominate again. I'm not to sure he'll ever win a major either. The talent level is higher now than it was 10 years ago and these young guns will soon take over. I do see Rory being the next super star, but it's way too early to say he's the next Tiger.

he dominated the US Open last month didn't he? Well, I guess there's short term and long term domination  I suppose we'll see how "Roarmac" does these next two majors.
