I've seen officials give yellow to a player that fakes a injury, but I also know that the official got his butt chewed out by the league in the form of a phone call the next week. Again, the officials are not doctors, so they have to allow for it. It's a very ugly part of the game and nobody likes it. The only thing a official can do is allow for extra time. If it happens early in a game, I've seen officials that will not give that player a 50-50 call for a while. Kind of like saying F-you, don't be pulling that sh't. As a official, you have to give a 100% foul, but a 50-50.....this is why you don't F with the officials too much. Players are always trying to buy fouls, happens in every sport. There's a right way and also a wrong way to go about it. Sometimes when a player screams at the official, 3 things. 1), they are trying to buy something for later. 2), the official missed it or didn't think it was a foul and third, sometimes a player is right.
But of course!!.......They have heart, and are good those women....I think they could beat the men.... But honestly how gross was the officiating in that game? The red card wasnt anything....offsides on the Marta goal, the stupid re-do on the PK...I mean come on?? FIFA hates the US....and it is obvious...
I realize that, point is thats why you shouldn't be ticky tacky and you should give some leeway. And the tackle I'm pretty sure she wasn't even close to making contact with the ball handler. It was a bad call. It was a poorly refed game.
I don't know if FIFA hates the US. The USA and China put the Women's World Cup on the map in 1991 and specifically 1999. Though maybe they don't like that we don't support our club teams as much as they do in other parts of the world. But the USA holds the record for attendance in both the Men's and Women's World Cups, so that should still count for something. FIFA is under a lot of controversy anyway with all the corruption and bribe charges, hopefully things change.
Unlucky....I think we might be talking about different plays???? As to the poster that mentioned that FIFA hates the US.......which country held the mens WC in 1994 and the womans WC in 1999??? Getting back to the offsides issues, were getting to nit picking when it comes down to inches. Just go play, (not directed at you unlucky). I remember when the rule was changed, the bottem line is just go play the game and don't worry about the little stuff. The replay on ESPN showed that the Brazil player was onside, making it a good goal. There were some iffy judgements on both sides, but it was fair to both sides.
So I watched that USA game on my DVR... what an amazing game? Very happy that we pulled it out after all the turmoil. Even playing with 10 men, the US side looked better than Brazil. I do find Hope Solo totally aaaa "keeper" But I think her, Wambach and Rapinoe (the Left Winger who crossed the ball to Wambach for the equaliser) are all extremely talented players. You know after watching that France vs England game yesterday, you can truely appreciate the level of better play with the Brazil vs USA match. Looking forward, Japan is extremely fast, Sweden has beaten the US already, and France plays very well organized, but USA is clearly the favorite at this point now that Germany is out. Good stuff.
Even though Sweden beat the US, I think the US was the better team that day. The shock was Japan beating Germany. Solo is fine......hehe
http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/43706431/ns/sports-soccer/ -We get articles like this after every world cup and olympics, don't we? Americans love the World Cup, Women's World Cup and Olympics as well as other big international games. And that may be why club soccer can't live up to that and catch that same attention. Except maybe in the Pacific Northwest? Seeing the NY Red Bulls play the Houston Dynamo isn't the same as seeing a big international match. Showing what was going on at this match between innings and Yankee Stadium and having huge name celebrities like Tom Hanks and LeBron tweeting about it shows people care about world cup and olympic soccer, but probably never that level for the MLS (or WPS). Those leagues can survive if run correctly though and have a good market. As for the Womens WC specifically, I think ESPN has a goldmine from now on. After 1999 the cup suffered in media here because of the SARS outbreak in 2003 so they had to move it to USA last minute and it was in the fall and was never going to surpass 1999. Then in China 4 years ago live matches were on at like 6 AM and 7 AM, horrible times. 2015 is in Canada though, perfect for the United States and right on the border, and expanding to 24 teams. The 2014 Men's WC also benefits the US in timezone.
Womens world cup has been great but doesnt compare to the mens. Sure this was a great game but I was even more stoked at the end of this game: Also I think liverpool can have downing. Has a left foot and that's about it i think. Would rather arsenal put money towards either a vidal or a mata. Hopefully ramsey will fight for a place in the first team as well.
Just saw this. I'm OK with it. As SD said, Aaron Ramsey hopefully will push for a spot. I'm a big fan of Ramsey.
Hope Solo is pretty and all, but WTF was she doing on the first three penalties? I was literally saying WTF, pick a side and jump. All she'd do is a little shuffle and and a side step and then wave her hand in protest. Luckily she came up big for you guys with ONE save while the Brasilian goalie guessed the right side to dive each time. Mind you, excellent strikes by all US PK shooters, but still...
Going to the Man U, New England friendly tonight at Foxboro.....they brought their A team...should be fun.... pissed I have to step in that Stadium though...
hey all it takes sometimes is one stop.....no worries, after we dispatch France today, the Cup is a realistic shot for them...
Another exciting game. After a 1-1 Deadlock with France dominating mid-field, USA turns it on in the final 15 minutes. Now I hope Japan beats Sweden. North American and Asia final, since we may never see a men's final without Europe & South America.
The two substitutions (Morgan/Rapinoe) and reposition (Cheney) were like a shot in the arm. Game changed. We dominated after being dominated. Helluva game. On to the finals!
I've decided to start following MLS. I'm leaning towards DC United, but am open to picking my favorite team....someone convince me
I don't watch MLS but from what I've been told, the Seattle Sounders (?) are fun and their crowd kicks ***. Orlando's supposedly going to get their team adopted by the MLS from what I've been told but I don't know when.
The Sounders crowd is amazing, and they have a great rivalry going with the Portland Timbers. DC United is a nice choice too though because they have Charlie Davies, Josh Wolff, and just picked up De Rosario. Should be fun to watch.
Looks like it's going to be US vs. Japan in the Finals with Sweden vs. France in the third place game, or as I'm calling it, the hottest squad competition.
New England Revolution so one day when you come up here and watch a game, we can hang out.....with Adam, and Pagan.... actually thats a cool site to think of Pagan at a soccer match...
Philly Union. They got a good crowd as well, and play an exciting brand of football. They also have some decent young players, while the team is just getting good. you would be getting in on the ground floor. They also have the best logo in MLS.
Japan vs. USA Sunday for the Cup. Japan is dangerous, the Japanese team the USA beat early in the year was displaced by the Tsunami and couldn't practice, so I wouldn't take much from that. Completely different situation. Should be good. At least if USA loses I'd be happy for Japan.
Exactly. It's a good story either way, which is great. Back to MLS, I'd love to root for the Timbers, as I think I might ultimately settle down in Portland, but I hate their pitch. It's 110*70 (about the same size as Stoke) and with the lower camera angles utilized by the MLS (to hide crowd sizes), it looks like a glorified indoor match.
If Orlando had a team that would be pretty hard to resist since there'd be a chance I could go to a game or two. I cannot root for the Sounders. I don't know why, but i just can't. That certainly takes New England off the list. Seriously, there's no way in hell I'd ever root for a New England team or New York team, unless it the Giants beating the Pats in the SB. See, I was thinking about them too. I have their logo as A1 and DC's logo as 1A. Like the colors for both. But I really don't like the name Union. I mean their initials are PU for crying out loud. Though an up and coming team does sound interesting. This is tough.
don't be like most sounder fans and jump on the bandwagon. I went to the timbers sounders game on sunday.
If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't pick a team. Just go and enjoy the games. If you pick a team, you'll just get disappointed when they lose, if your just starting to watch the league, you'll enjoy it more by just sitting back and enjoying the game. I haven't worked a game in over ten years now, I could really care less about the teams, if I watch a game, I just sit back and watch.
Yeah, she addressed that in the prematch today. Those first two she let in, the shooters she had faced previously in the match on pk's. She was under the belief that they, as confident brazilians, would kick to the same side as they did previously (her left). But each time they kicked the other way.
Really thought US was fortunate to come out of today's game with the W. As Muck said, the subs that they made in the 2nd half were absolutely critical. Up until that point, the central midfield was nonexistant as France were dominating and the US looked very slow. Clearly however, the US defense is the best in the tournament, today's goal notwithstanding. Japan though... they are like France but even faster. Going to be an interesting matchup. I'd like to see Rapinoe play the whole game as her play on the LW has been exemplary, but I can understand why she's a 2nd half sub with all that energy she can bring. Wambach is the female Alan Shearer Just put it in the air, against a smaller Japan side, not a bad idea. Also thought US looked tired after the first 20 minutes. Hopefully three days rest is just what the doctor ordered.
I'm still waiting for Arsenal to sign a center back....you know, one that isn't a teenager and I will get to see play in four years. Come on Arsene, do something on the defensive side.
I literally have taken a piss on the building.....they have a shopping complex right there, and it is outfitted with restaurants and places to drink....I got pissy one night and on the way back to the car tried to piss "Dolphins" onto the building....it came out about as bad as I spell on here... Man U./NE game was fun last night only because you dont see a club that talented play here much at all....very frustrating game to watch through...The RD's basically ran triangle passing drills and scored goals for the 90 mins.....disappointing...
Something tells me Alen you could be waiting awhile. But had to laugh at Wengers treatment of Denilson in the friendly the other night. Also 20m for Downing is madness. Liverpool seem happy to over-pay on English talent.
Getting Thomas Vermaelan back fit will be almost like signing a new centerback. We really missed his presence last year. But honestly, my enthusiasm for the Gunners is as low as its ever been. At this point, I'm just waiting for Cesc to leave.
I'd personally prefer Young, as he is more of a threat with his pace and end product. He would be closer to a £20m transfer fee IMO. Downing's not a bad player, but he is not worth £20m, likewise Carroll was not worth £35m and Henderson £16m. I do like Liverpools agressiveness in the transfer window, with all those guys having Premiership experience and are still young/have time to develop further. But any team (not just Liverpool) is going to overpay on English talent. Phil Jones and Connor Wickham are two more examples of this. Take into account that Arsenal signed a very good, young attacker with tremendous talent in Gervinho for only £11m is a great example of how you will overpay for English players.
