So I'm trying to buy a slim PS3 off craigslist and the guy brought it over today. He's really nice and I'm not worried about being scammed at all. But we hooked it up and nothing was showing up on my TV at all. We tried my HDMI cord and the A/V cords that came with the PS3 and got nothing. It seemed like it was fine, and turned on fine, but nothing at all. Tried the HDMI cable on my computer and it worked fine.

Any idea what the problem could be? Could he have a setting on his PS3 that would have caused it to not show up on mine? No audio either as far as I know.

He's took it home and he's gonna let me know if it works there. He said it was in his car all day and it was really hot today so maybe that caused something. It didn't feel or sound overheated though.

tl/dr: Buying used PS3, didn't work on my TV, any reason?

If you hooked up via HDMI, then the HDCP aspect may have not liked the fact that the PS3 was being hooked up to a new TV. There may also have been something in his video settings, yes.

If it works on his TV but not yours, then it's likely a video setting issue. You can reset the PS3's settings by turning it off, and holding the power button for a few seconds until you hear two beeps. Should take about 5-6 seconds.

This. What kind of TV are you using? It's likely that your TV does not accept a 1080p signal. My buddy just had this problem too...his roommate moved and took his HD TV, and when he hooked it up to his standard TV...nothing. Follow Desides directions, and it'll reset to a lower standard that should be viewable on your TV.

    Sylvannia 37 inch. I think it's probably only 720p.

Shouldn't it have worked with the standard av cables if that was the case though?

Nope, it doesn't default down for some reason. My buddy tried the same thing.

Ok, well hopefully we'll try it again tomorrow. Thanks for the info guys.

Getting a 250gb slim that looks like it's in great condition with 2 controllers for $215. Good deal?

haven't priced used systems much. PS3 is rumored to price drop soon, so it might not be such a great deal?

Really? Hadn't heard that. That would be unfortunate. To me it has seemed like most 120gb go for about $200 so I thought it would be pretty good.

Seems high to me. Around here, PS3s regularly go on craigslist for under $200.

This one for $140 with Black Ops and 2 controllers.

    Here's a 320gb slim for $165.

I mean, not all the prices are that good, but if you didn't mind waiting a little I'm sure you could find it cheaper than $210. And really, the HDD size is almost negligible to the price (IMO) because you can easily upgrade to a HDD size of your choosing.

I'm always weary of the cheapest listings though. From what I've looked at in Minneapolis, I haven't seen much for under $200 any size. There was a guy who I coulda got a 160gb from for $180 but I called him out on bull****ting me about another buyer to raise the price and I'm not sure if I want to buy from him anymore. I don't know, just don't know.
