Game looks good so far, hopefully it turns out to be great. Enjoy.
The beta is in September. If you bought Medal of Honor then you should have a beta key. Not sure if it's closed or open. The videos… well, okay, I'm going to go ahead and say it: I think the lighting is way too harsh. It looks like a studio set, not natural daylight. Also, I'm not thrilled with the weapon textures (they look like plastic toys) or the weapon animations (all that movement is going to be distracting as hell). Core game looks fun, but they definitely need to tweak this before release.
I agree on the lighting and the weapons are a bit off too but for some reason all the recent BF gameplay videos look a lot faster than the actual gameplay to me. My guess is that's the case because the developers are just rushing through showing off as much as possible. During the actual multiplayer with actual human opponents I don't think most would play the game at that fast a pace. I do think they'll iron out all, or most, of these problems before the full release. I was in on the PS3 BF:BC2 Beta and it also had very bright lighting (Arica Harbor level) and the control scheme was quite different from the final release. Additionally, the class specifications and setup was quite different as well. Once the Beta concluded Dice actually made an extensive list of changes and actually listened to a lot of player problems listed in the Beta forums on both the EA and Battlefield sites. So I do think the final version will be quite a bit better than the Beta, at least looking at the BF:BC2 Beta. The demo will basically be the full game though as I never see many major improvements from the demo to the full game. --Not a paid spokesman for EA/Dice.
For you PC gamers who have played at least 2 previous Battlefield titles, BF3's Alpha Trial is here. Check your emails, you may have gotten an invite, I know I did. Downloading it now, can't wait to try it out, even though it's only an Alpha Trial and likely to be very unpolished.
I've played 3 matches so far. Doing terrible, which is odd since I'm usually beast at BF games. Being that it's only Alpha, we only get 1 map, and 1 game mode, which is rush. The map is very nice. So far I've only gotten to the second set of M-COM stations in the 3 matches I've played. The first part of the map is a park, with a lake. Very nice. The second part of the map is a subway station cluttered with subway trains and tiny rooms. Have had some epic battles in here so far. The big problem with the game, and really why I'm doing so poorly is there's no key mapping in the Alpha Trial. Having to toggle crouch and prone with z and x is really frustrating. Not to mention all the other things that need to be changed like melee attack, quick switching to grenades, etc. Can't use my 360 controller either because it's waaaaaaaaaay too sensitive and there's no slider for sensitivity. Like I said, only played 3 games, so, time to get back to it! Edit - the map I'm talking about is in the vids on the first post. Apparently they got the Alpha Trial a week before I did....
I know right. Much prefer my CM Storm Inferno, but what can you do. Words can't describe my hate for having to crouch and prone with Z and X
This is a closed alpha testing. Beta comes in September although it will most likely be just a demo, testing for server capabilities.
