I think I would prefer Young rather than spend an early draft pick for a QB who is not much better than Henne has been so far. If we do decide to go all in for the best QB available in next years draft we may need that draft pick to pull it off. In my personal opinion I don't think there are any QBs available worth an early draft pick except Palmer if he was available. If we don't find our QB solution this year we have to target a first round QB in next years draft.
This is TOTALLY ignoring the fact that Pennington, who already had a bad history of shoulder injuries, was only just recovered from yet another serious shoulder injury that threatened his career. Absolutely boom or bust. No question about it. The definition of it. If Pennington's shoulder held up, Sparano saw him as the savior of the season. But he knew that was a big IF and he took that chance anyway. Boom. Or. Bust.
I don't know why people want vince young.....I just don't feel like he like he is a good qb. He's not a starting qb I don't think he is that much better then henne. He has to many off the field issues. You guys don't want kyle orton because we would have to up picks, if it is a 2-3 round draft picks I wouldn't mind giving that up. Its not like we have done much with those our 2 and 3 round draft picks in the past few years. Instead of throwing them away and getting sub par plays that will never see the field let's just get kyle orton
Odds are infinitely higher on the VY signing. You need to learn how to correctly spell her name before she's gonna want a date with you. Scarlett Johansson is how it's spelled.
All I know is that Collins started that team 0-6 and Young took over and they finished up 8-8. 8-2 with a team that hadn't won a game. I agree lots of questions and things but the guy can play Qb.
That's actually the one aspect of Vince Young's story that doesn't impress me. I'm not interested in a guy that wins on good teams that also won just as much with Kerry Collins at the helm. I'm interested in a guy that could put up a 98 QB Rating and be possibly the most accurate deep ball thrower in the NFL. He took a step forward in 2010. I was skeptical about it, but I watched his games, and I saw it for myself. The game came to him better. He began to successfully marry his long ball ability with efficiency and timing in the short and intermediate game. And yet, there's upside. Far more upside, because he looked so under-prepared at times, due to poor film room work ethic. If the guy grows up he's not just in that "average" space that rafael talked about. He's elite. The only real elite talent (as opposed to 'formerly elite') on the market. Does anyone know anything about brain washing? Can we get Jeff Ireland a pamphlet?
Except that there was simply no "bust" component to it. If it didn't work out, it was back to where he was a game before. Sparano didn't have anything to lose by playing Pennington. Worst case scenario, he would have to play the old QB again. Aye, Sparano took a chance but it was a chance where he had much to win and little to lose (if Pennington's shoulder didn't hold up, he wasn't of any use as a backup, either). Not boom or bust. Quite the opposite, actually.
Why is Jeff Fisher held in such high regard by some people? His record is mediocre at best , it really is. I want NO part of him , if you don't like the fist pumper I don;t know why you would think Fisher is the upgrade we would need.
You're saying that Chad Henne didn't lose confidence when he was benched? That the team didn't lose confidence in him? That there's no cost involved in taking the man that you've held up for the last three years as the quarterback of the future of the Miami Dolphins, and publicly declaring that he's inferior and will ride the pine while Chad Pennington with the dental floss holding his shoulder together comes and tries to save the season?
I think what people fail to realize is that Vince Young is also a wonderful option as a second string QB. If Henne is hurt or falters, I don't know if there are many better options than putting him onto the field. He's better than Thigpen, White, Henne, etc. in THAT ROLE.
I voted "yes" but only if the Orton trade cost too much.....as I type this I hear that Vikings acquired McNabb for two 6th rd picks! That is a steal!!!! I only hope we don't go crazy trying to acquire Orton. Seems like VY would be a better deal all around. He has proven that he can win and has the ability to be a great qb. I say give him a chance
And then they started 0-6 with Collins. Then Young takes over and they look like another team, winning 5 straight and finishing on an 8-2 streak with Young. Granted, the early part of that schedule was tougher. But they were visibly better with Young. And that's where I'm coming from. I expect the Dolphins to keep on looking for that franchise QB. But in a situation where the only surefire, legitimate upgrade is forced into retirement (Palmer), Young represents the best option for perceived 'stopgap' status IMHO. I like his skill set better. And I like that ability to elevate teammates. Young doesn't cost picks like Orton. He doesn't require a restructured/extended contract like Orton (who's due $9 million). And while the goal is to replace Henne (or have him elevate his game significantly), the lack of draft compensation and likely smaller amount of guaranteed money would doesn't matter as much in the grand scheme of things. Young's been inconsistent, but so has Orton. And if Henne wins the job without improvement to his game (e.g. Orton/Young tank), one transaction will sting much more than the other.
No, I'm saying that Sparano realized he wouldn't win with Chad Henne and took the gamble on Mr. Glued Together, knowing full well that he'd need a different quarterback next season either way. I very much doubt that he lost too much sweat over Henne's confidence; by that moment Chad Henne was done for as the Miami Dolphins starting quarterback of the future.
Did you see his stats for the 1st 6 games vs the last 10? He had 3 total TDs in the 1st 6 games, and they all came in a 34-31 loss against the Texans (he also had 197 yds rushing and 87 receiving that game).
Fisher is a decent coach, but the second part of this is why he's so highly regarded...because his crazy owner kept him around for 17 years... Watch ESPN and the only thing you will ever hear is, "longest tenured coach in the league." There are frankly no facts to back up why he was kept so long or why he is a good coach...just opinions, namely Bud Adams' (the crazy owner). In addition to the mediocre (at best) winning records, I've watched his Titans teams consistently be the most penalized in the league, with a rep for playing "dirty," while also seeing a parade of trouble-makers and nasty splits / player-coach drama (McNair, Kearse, Bulluck, Pacman, White, VY, Britt).
There's the first problem Young on the bench first chance to get under Marshals skin to stir the pot I see a bad bad scenario.
That's mostly on defense, because of the DC's. I don't really have a problem with their penalties or them being dirty. He's made it through all those headcases.
Yes Orton's numbers are better but simply put Vince wins games. He is an X factor player that makes big plays at big times and is still on the younger side. Id MUCH rather have him than orton.
Dude the YPC is almost a full yard better in the first 6 games. TD's are a result of the offense driving the field and getting near the goal line where CJ gets to punch it in. You just proved the point even more...
Well considering that Fisher was also the HC on the Competition Cmte, which usually means their team "gets" calls, that is quite a feat.
Funny since only 6 of his 16 TDs came within the 10. 10 of his TDs were 28 yards or longer. CJ disproved your point some, since he score more often from further away.
I'm not crazy about either Orton or VY as our QB, but both are better than the McNabb or Hasselback options. If VY is our QB, I will just have to pray to the football gods that he keeps his head on straight. He does have much better skillset than Orton. I just don't believe we are talented enough to overcome a mental breakdown by our QB. Still, if he's our QB on Friday, I'll support him. It would be interesting to see a VY-B Marshall connection on a weekly basis. It's been a long time since we had a QB that threw a good long ball.
This is pretty much how I really feel about it. Either one is better than what we have now. I just don't understand banging on VY when he is clearly better than what we currently have.
Relying on Vince Young as quarterback would be roughly akin to checking to see how full your gas tank is with a lighted match. You might get away with it, but more than likely it's going to blow up in your face.
Jeff George! WOW! I had to live through that loon when I lived in Atlanta. I don't think even VY is that bad!
I think VY has been as bad as Jeff George so far in Tennessee. Whether he changes for the better, who can say?
EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY!!!!!!!! No more trading away future picks for a stopgap QB JEBUS how many ****ing times has this organization done this in the last 12 years or so?
Exactly, George needed liquid prozac, the dude was nuttier then a jar of planters. Interesting thought to me, why not VY to the Colts? Manning needs a quality back up, Young needs to rebuild his reputation, and more then likely would not play, win win for both sides.
Did anyone really think it was Jeff Fisher that was the problem? This is why I'm completely against V. Young above the actual issues I have with him on the field. If there is one spot where you need someone with their head screwed on straight and dedicated to his craft it's at QB. You can't fix stupid and Young is a mess.
Not so much coming to Miami, when the Redskins signed Kellen Clemons Tom Condon should have said "oh crap" along with the Bills signing Thigpen, the only place that stands out for him now is the Raiders, and they are in deep cap problems.
If Orton goes elsewhere, I'm fairly certain VY is in a Fins uniform next season. Ross wants azzes in the seats and Young will do that for him. He is also that athletic type QB that can create extra time. He can run the spread and he and Devlin will be solid additions to our spread scheme.
