He's also had surgery on each of his ankles the last two offseasons.

But you do make a key point, he was able to play, and play well with those injuries. The question is, does that continue after he gets paid?

I would wonder that too, but if the Jets can start one million above (or below, not sure which) their cap, sign Holmes to the contract he got, and still be in serious position to sign Asomugha and R Moss, then there are ways to do it.

As far as Carey goes. Has anyone bothered to figure out the cap # in cutting Carey. Might be a moot point if he doesn't save much or costs to cut him.

He has also had ankle problems that have limited his play to go along with fumbling problems.

As I said, he is a good back, I would not be upset with him, but he also has his problems.

Per Clayton's latest tweet, Fins negotiating with ronnie Brown. Fins may be getting Ryan Clarke'd by Bradshaw

You know, Ronnie in Daboll's offense could be dangerous if we use him in the passing game. With Cam Cam and a nice pulling center (Satale), Ronnie did very well on screens and flats.

Maybe he can revive his career by running hard and actually being used in the passing game for once.

To me that sounds like, whoever offers the most money wins. I still think the NYG come close enough to Miami's offer, then they get him. However, I think we can all know that we did make a realistic run at this guy.

Only if he goes back to NYG and takes less money to do so...

This feels much different to me. This feels like we are getting played for leverage sake.

I only heard about the one ankle, removing bone spurs, which they just did because he was already set to be in recovery from having the pins inserted in his feet. To me that's a surgery not even worth mentioning. Are you sure there was a second ankle surgery?

Yep, now the money gets funny in out yrs on these contracts, but for us, they never have been the type of FO that pushes all in to sign a player, especially when we just drafted a running back, no matter how talented they may be.

Sadly, I can see Barber as a far more likely option then Bradshaw, that is Ireland and Co's MO.

I disagree with that. This FO has gone out and splurged big bucks just as recently as last offseason. Everyone complains that we are spending too much on the offensive line. They shell out money just fine. But a lot of the time it takes more than money to pry a guy away from his team/family/home/etc...

How about "..pushes all in on signing a playmaker...?"

We traded for BMarsh, and that is not an indictment on the spending, it saying they won't be drawn into cash bidding wars for athletes.

Sorry pads... having a little trouble figuring out what you were saying with your wording? Would you not consider two 2nd round picks and one of the biggest contracts for a WR "pushing all in on a playmaker"?

Meh. Bone spur cleanups are a nothing surgery. The significant wounds are the two bones in his feet that needed pins. The pins are there to stabilize the tendency for the bones to want to develop stress fractures. As far as I know, there's been no trouble since then. Pain, yes. A managed practice schedule, yes. But no more stress fractures.

I think it's overblown when you're talking about a guy that's missed 2 games in his career to injury.

Honestly Ahmad Bradshaw is the key to any potential optimism I might be able to squeeze out for 2011.

I'm just imagining us all watching the Dolphins play Week 17. It's the most embarrassing performance we've seen probably since 62-7. The Patriots routed us and it was never even close, and worse the team had zero energy, zero desire to even compete. The Patriots were whooping and hollering and celebrating whenever they'd make a play, and this game literally meant NOTHING to them. Their playoff standing was already locked in.

So we're all sitting there watching this calamity, and then there's a psychic next to us and he turns to us all and says "Don't worry, I can see the future. After the Browns fire their offensive coordinator, Miami will hire him, and then trade for Kyle Orton! Everything is going to be ok!"

Who punches him first? Or maybe all at the same time?

Straight up Cash money for a playmaker FN, how much will the pay?

Only guy they have ever signed like that would have been Ernest Wilford.

Cmon, Orton is the perfect Miami Dolphins QB (post Marino). Terrible on 3rd downs and terrible inside the red zone. We could very well have a more experienced Chad Henne on our hands.

When does your mind shift to Orton having to find an open WR while Revis and Nnamdi are covering Marshall and Bess. If the Jets get that man, it's going to be very hard for any team to score on them. Leave those guys single coverage on WRs and you have a safety in the box on every play. No running game, no deep or outside passing game, no scoring.

You're looking at a pretty small sample size though, no? Only 3 offseasons where a ton needed to be added? To call that an MO would be unfair IMO. Last year, in one of those 3 seasons, they went out and got a playmaker and shelled out a crap ton of money for him... but that doesnt count towards their MO b/c it was in a trade? Wouldnt the MO to be whether or not they value playmakers and are willing to go out and get them? What does it matter whether the particular move they made was via trade vs FA in regards to their "MO"?

And where does going out and aggressively getting Dansby and making him the highest paid MLB fit into their MO?

They threw about $20 million guaranteed at Calvin Pace (pass rush).

They gave Marshall and Dansby historic contracts in a single offseason.

They spent a high second round pick on a skinny Wildcat QB (though it appears that was Parcells). But it was a case where they invested high on a playmaker 'they' identified.
