Thing is everyone screams how much Henne sucks and we need another QB. The Dolphins then find one that would fit Daboll's scheme and everyone is still *****ing. That is the tragedy that is Dolphin fans.
For a guy who always puts every ones dick in the dirt over how bad this team is you sure have high regards for what Marshall alone can do. Sorry man I just don't see.
It also shows you what we're up against. This isn't the same old Jets. They've now got first class facilities, a coach practically everyone wants to play for, a tight-knit team and a front office that's shown time and time again that they're willing to take a creative and proactive approach to getting what they want. And unfortunately, there's a certain perception around the league that our team has devolved into a bit of a circus.
If they waive enough money in his face, perhaps. If he really wants to continue with an acting career, Los Angeles is down state and more "actor friendly" than NY is.
Imagine if their FA coup is Santanio Holmes, Randy Moss, & Nnamdi Asmougha? Uh-oh. That would be some SERIOUS pressure for Mark Sanchez.
I think it'd be hilarious if Miami or hell any AFCE foe were to come in and just offer him a huge deal and swoop him from the Jets. Do we need him? No. Would it be nice to piss the Jets fans off with? YES
A different type of circus, though. There's certainly downside to Rex's behavior, but he's a damn good coach, and the organization is perceived as one that will do what it takes to win. That certainly doesn't guarantee that they will, but that's a good part of the reason guys are willing to take discounts to play there.
The solution: sign Malcolm Floyd. Put 6'5" and great hands on BOTH sides of the field and I don't care who the Jets have at the Corners, we're gonna get catches on them.
This is what happens when you're from New York and have Rex Ryan at coach. People would kindly take less money to play here. My hopes are not high, however. If we get him, look out. It would be scary.
Its one thing to take a discount to stay put. Its another when you are clearly the best CB in the league who is DYING to cash in.
Yes, you should be scared of a defensive line that is giving regular snaps to Howard Green and Marcus Dixon
Easy there, Slick. If you've been following Nnamdi over the past 3 years, you'd know that the guy is dying to get paid. His contract specifically disallowed the Raiders to franchise him so he could get PAID.
Really? He didn't already get paid in 09 when they made him the highest paid CB ever and he got something like 28 mil guaranteed? lmao
Jets would have arguably the two best cornerbacks in the league. In a scheme like Rex Ryan's, he can take chances on a lot of downs. They went for it with Cromartie last year. As good as he is, this is the next step up. And there's only one step up. Again, you have to give it up for Mike Tannenbaum. He goes for it.
Yeah, so by your logic, he's got enough money and doesn't want it any more? Puh-leeeze! Rich people want to get richer! He's all about the money. Always has been. Always will be. His previous behavior is an indication of future behavior. Your facts prove my point. Thanks for that.
+ I want to know how the Jets can sign Holmes for 10 million per, but his base is only 2.35 million per yr? Are there no rules against 80% of a salary being laughable performance bonuses>?
A tweet mentioned it, which is how they'd find the money for Aso, eh, fine with me, they had paper thin depth anyway.
lol Right. Like he won't still be making a killing if he takes a paycut in NY compared to the rest of the market. Clearly, "rich people want to get richer" is just too solid of logic. Your only point is that you have no facts or logic to back up any kind of legitimate opinion, other than that you came up with the idea so it must be good lol
I think you have to consider the Oakland factor. That's a place I'm going to demand to be paid more to live and work. As Jay Glazer put it, he wants to be sort of like Dhani Jones. He has lots of interests beyond football. That market serves a lot of purposes for him. The pairing with Revis alone creates all kinds of media and marketing opportunities. Plus, NYJ is a legit Super Bowl contender. "Super Bowl Champion" has a nice ring once you leave football and become a television personality. Being successful and being a champion opens a lot of doors. Just part of the post-football allure.
I don't know how people don't understand that. If you were Nnamdi and you already made a killing and were still in your prime, why wouldn't you take a little less money for a good shot at a ring?
You're pulling your logic out of the same air I'm pulling mine out of. You're on no more solid ground than I am, pal!
If you completely disregard everything he's said and his contract history. I especially loved how your logic was that he's dying to get paid bc he just became the highest paid CB ever 2 years ago. I've wasted enough time with you though. Keep at it if you like but I'm not responding again.
I'm so sorry you "wasted your time with me". Pity that. You're just assuming and speculating, just like the rest of us. Only you're under some crazy delusion that you're on solid ground and I'm not. That's insane!!! My opinion is that Nnamdi is all about the money. Always has been always will be. Your opinion is that he already got paid, and now he's going for a ring. Both are valid ways of interpreting the situation. Except that you're just so sure that your logic is sound and that I'm nuts. That, Slick, is nuts. But don't waste your time by responding. Live up to your word.
Yeah, I have to agree with the other poster. Nnamdi is one of the few players in this league where if you see how he acts (very philanthropic, Football is a very small part of his life, wants to be an actor after Football) you can tell he is NOT all about the money. I'm sure he wants to get paid, but no more than you and me. Some guys are simply in it for the money (ie Haynesworth). Nnamdi does not appear to be that type of person.
All you need to do to clear current cap space is guarantee future money. They'll just convert some of Sanchez's 2011 salary into guaranteed salary in future years. But it also means they are stuck with guys that might not be very good in the future.
One thing about Mike Tannebaum, he cut his teeth as a salary cap expert and is considered one of the best in the league when it comes to finding creative ways to structure contracts. Unfortunately, I think the Jets also caught a break with the deluge of free agents and cap casualties. With such a condensed negotiating period, there's going to be a lot of decent players that may be had at less than (perhaps much less than) market value. I wouldn't be surprised if they cleared out just enough space to vulture a few of them.
SF apparently just told Nate Clements that they will no longer require his services, quite possibly to clear cap room to make a stronger run at Asomugha.
