6) Best Team Draft? Mancini: Miami: The Tuna has put the pieces in place for having very formidable offensive and defensive lines, as well as taking a quarterback with the arm and big-game experience to lead Miami out of the doldrums. 10) Flacco. Brohm. Henne. Who Will Start First? Mancini: Henne: Henne has a much better chance of starting over the unimpressive John Beck than Brohm does over a more polished and gifted Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers, however, has yet to prove that he can healthy for a long stretch of time. Mandel: Henne: Do the math: Flacco isn't going to play right away + Brohm needs to wait for Aaron Rodgers to get his shot = Parcells isn't that high on John Beck. link to rest of list http://www.nfldraftbible.com/All-Access-Football/nfl_draft_residue.html
Yes.I think it was pretty commonly assumed that Henne was likely to be more NFL ready than all of the others drafted.
I think we should seriously be thinking that Henne is going to start the season as our starter. Nevermind week 8. Parcells and Co. are really high on him, not so much on Beck. I can see the job being Henne's. With that being said, if it indeed is Henne's job, I hope its because he has earned it throughout training camp. I woudlnt like to see him as our starter week 1, not unless he's performed above and beyond beck and mccown. I just think that there is a chance that they are set on having him be the starter unless he comes out and just flat out stinks. Its just a weird feeling that I have.
I understand what your saying but imo, I dont think you will see a rookie QB starting for us in week one. I think you will see McCown or Beck in for at least half of the season and upon their struggles, Henne will become the starter.
I agree, I think the drafting of Chad Henne was more out of value than it was because Parcells and Co. didn't like John Beck. I think John Beck will be the starter for Miami in 2008...
If Henne was "their" guy they take him at 32...not 57 he was good value there.. they like him but im betting this will truly be.. "may the best man win" come camp time.
They were going to take him at 32 but Merling became available. Trust me Merling is going to be a beast. I think they got an upgraded version of Calvin Pace waiting for them when 32 came around. And at 2nd round money. Remember how much they were going to give Pace? No way you passs him up
I understand your feelings. I just hope that if Beck becomes the 3rd stringer, people dont start posting that he didnt get a fair shot. He's been working with David Lee, the entire offseason. I think they have a much better idea of Beck's talent level than any of us
I find it funny that a writer says the Parcells is not high on Beck, yet the Cowboys were thinking of drafting him when Parcells was the coach and they have done nothing but praise Beck since being here. Now is Beck a question mark? Yes, but no more than Henne.
As for Beck, Miami's second-round pick in 2007, Bill Parcells is said to have early respect for him and his work ethic, meaning he'll be given a legitimate chance to compete for the No. 1 position. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/don_banks/04/30/camp.battles/index.html
A sports writer( gossip journailist) will write his thoughts on a subject, such as Parcells and Beck, then the stories flow from there. Most coaches want a veteran QB and a younger QB to mold into his full potential. In Miami's current staff, since they didn't draft Beck, they may see more in Henne that fits Parcells and Irelands style than they do in Beck.Henne was very good value at the spot they took him in the draft. The jury is out on this one and they have two low paid QB's until they figure out who is better. My bet at this point is its wide open, but Beck has a leg up. They already know what Mc can do, so why try to revamp him. IMO, he is there as a vet Back up/ experienced shoulder to lean on....no more.
Not that it matters any but, I give the early lead on the starting job to McCown, because of experience. Beck as a VERY close 2nd. I have no reason to think Henne will actually get a shot at the starting gig as a rookie. This is a great opportunity for the starter to suceed with our new Oline and its PROBABLE running game sucess.
