The 5th rd pick is very likely to be a Hall of Fame player.

    It's Magic!

In my eyes, a 5th is about the right compensation. Considering he was going to be cut anyway, the compensation you are giving New Orleans is simply to avoid getting in a bidding war and having to overpay for Bush. This way, you give up a 5th and have exclusive rights to him. I agree, any more then a 5th and we got hosed.

I'm not really worried about the pick, quite honestly. Its their thinking behind all of this. I don't know what it is but they constantly are bringing in guys who are either "just good enough" or they are guys who have talent but are injury prone. I don't like guys who get injured. I didn't like Ronnie Brown as much as everyone else. Why? He gets injured. You can't have guys who you are not certain will be there on Sunday. Not in the NFL.

They love the mismatch Alen, that is what they see in Bush.

I also wonder if they would stick him on Returns? To me you almost have to in order to maximize his value to us.

Like the move...but 8-10 touches per game?

The more I look at this the more I think the Dolphins are being used as a pawn.
I will explain by conspiracy theory.

The Saints don't want to get rid of Reggie Bush, but need him to restructure his contract. The Bucs are interested in Bush, are required to spend like 30 million more on the salary cap, and are a division rival for the Saints.
So the Saints essentially agree to "trade" Bush to our Miami Dolphins. This automatically puts Bush in negotiations with 2 teams. Its the Dolphins contract against the Saints contract. I look for the Saints to near the same $$ on a contract as the Dolphins. Then Reggie can decide to stay with a contender who he has had his whole career with, and and offensive mastermind like Payton, not to mention a pretty good QB named Brees.
Or come to our Miami Dolphins.

If I were Bush's agent I wouldn't agree with any contract terms with the Dolphins, make the Saints cut him and hit the open market for maximum $$$. That USC money is running low.

I agree 100% with the bolded bit. I see no reason why Bush wouldn't force the Saints to keep him at his HUGE contract -or- cut him and have him go on the open market to the highest bidder.

Bingo. I couldn't care less about a 5th round selection right now. But I do care about the fact that this 3rd down back missed over a season worth of games in the last 4 years despite having very limited touches for a running back.

Bush, I believe, has averaged around 15 carries a game plus catching passes and PR duties. Not sure if that is accurate but those are the numbers I keep hearing.

I think I know what they want to do but I just think they could've went a different route. They want to use him as a leak option for Kyle Orton or Chad Henne while also getting him in matchups with linebackers. The problem is that you need to have this guy on the field to do that and frankly, he's not on the field much.

As I said, I think you bring in Reggie Bush, you still need another running back. Emphasis on running back.

In his last two seasons - which are the ones relevant to me because that's when New Orleans realized that Bush simply can't run between tackles and started to use him mainly as a 3rd down back - he averaged around 8 touches per game, including receptions but not PR/KR duties.

He clearly has some durability problems. I don't really see them bringing in another back though. They dropped 2 and now they have picked up 2.

Do know he had microfracture surgery BUT he made a complete comeback, and for whatever reason Saints rb's had ankle problems last yr.

My concern with him is Returns, and overall role, is he our #2 Rb? All Purpose player? What do you do with him other then catching leak passes or splitting him out at Wr?

There is a slew of Rb's on the market Alen, now worries about that one./

I really don't know why they didn't go after Darren Sproles. He's a tougher, quicker and more durable version of Reggie Bush. Better receiver, too. Might have come a bit more expensive money wise (though we'll have to wait and see on that), but no draft compensation.

I think you don't really have a choice but to give him carries too. There's still positives in this trade, such as him being a homerun threat and really a pain in the *** matchup so you have to give him a chance.

I'm with you on wanting Sproles more but he is more money and I don't think hes a better receiver personally. I don't think you can use Sproles the same way you use Reggie Bush.

Well, history says you can use Sproles in 16 games and not just 10, so there's that ;)

I'd also point to Sproles significantly higher receiving average.

I know hes had issues being dinged up, but i'd be willing to give up a 5th rnd pick to complete a trade for him anyday! A 3rd down back who returns punts and can win a game for you on any given sunday.... for a 5th? Yes please!

Get it done! Pay him what you need to, its not my money. At least they are trying to address our needs instead of taking the overly careful approach.

I really like the people that are complaining about Reggie only playing 10 games and in the same breath they want Ronnie Brown back who's gotten hurt about every year.

You know me, I'm a glass half full kind of guy, so gonna work the stats so it sounds better from our perspective. hehehe. At least with Bush, it could be possible we can run an effective screen pass more than once a month.

Now theyre talking with Phil Simms, Simms seems to think we're going to have big interest in Greg Olsen as well.
