Yeah, just odd to me that Ireland told Bush he'd be the man.

And you can use him on both PR and KR. And he's a better running back. And he produces more big plays. And he plays just as well on grass as on turf.

Bottom line to me is, a #6th rd pick, and a contract is a sweetheart deal for us, maybe he does not play all 16 games, though I suspect he will, but his dimension to the offense for that cheap of a price and you can see why they made the move for him.

Low acquistion cost, high upside potential.

Greg Olsen would be a signing I could get excited about.

If nothing else Reggie has been inside Kim K....and that's enough to get a cheap jersey of his...

That would be a pretty good group, Olsen, Bush and Orton. We would be much improved on O right away.

We're overvaluing both Bush and Orton as saviors IMO.

Undoubtedly, but the offense would be improved, and if the Offense can just be middle of the pack and the defense remains top 8?

We should be a playoff team.

Not really. Speed on offense plus a return guy with some skill for special teams has a lot of value for us. Plus, Orton, who has proven to be better than what we already have, has value to us.

Didn't Bush do equally well on grass and turf in college? Wonder why he wouldn't in the NFL? Don't most backs of his type do better on turf?

2 yrs, 5 million per looks like a solid deal for Reggie Bush, have to give Irish credit for this move.

We have roughly 10 million to spend. We're gonna nail down this Orton thing and add another piece. Doubt it's Olsen though.

A 6th rounder and a two year deal isn't bad. I see 6th rounders as throw aways most of the time. I do think Bush is a poor running back and a very good receiver out of the backfield. And I do believe that Daboll will make better use of him than Henning ever could have. I think he adds balance to the offense, but I worry that he seems to play much worse on grass than he does on turf. Here are his career splits between grass and turf:

Situation G Rush Yds Y/G Avg TD Rec Yds Y/G Avg Lng YAC 1stD TD Fum FumL
    Grass 19 167 563 29.6 3.4 4 98 729 38.4 7.4 32 6.6 41 2 7 4
    Turf 41 357 1527 37.2 4.3 13 196 1413 34.5 7.2 74 7.1 63 10 7 4

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7751/splits;_ylt=AjjSwow99aZ4Q8FXf1oQsrSxOot4?year=career

As you can see his rushing average on grass drops almost a full point into what can only be described as a bad average. IMO he's a player who is good in space and bad as a conventional runner. Daboll is the key to our offense this year.

I'm really liking the way our offense is shaping up. I really think our aquisitions are telling of what our offensive scheme is going to look like. We have RB's that can catch the ball out of the backfield, FB that can catch the ball out of the backfield, big pulling center, speed WR in Gates to stretch the field, great slot guy in Bess, Brandon Marshall who can break it anytime, Solid offensive line. I think you add Orton to that mix and all the sudden you really have a good looking offense. Even with Henne I think you have a good looking offense, but I think for the type of offense we are going to run your going to have to have a guy that hits his WR's in the numbers every time, not sure that's what Henne does best. We need our WR's and RB's to get hit in stride and get up field.

Now I wouldn't mind them picking up a ILB and Nickle CB I can't take Benny Sapp again.

I don't really like the move even for the price. Bush isn't very good and I don't see how you are going to get more upside out of him than the Saints did. Maybe focus on outside zone stuff with him?

just need one more offensive piece to put us over the top
still need to find that elite, pro-bowl quality left-guard
if we complete the offensive line, we can make a SuperBowl run in 2011

That's what I'm thinking. I'm guessing they are banking on him finding holes after his read step on a one cut basis. Problem is I don't remember him being a one cut guy in NO.

I have a feeling that we'll use him similar to what Dabool did with Cribbs when he was in Cleveland, and they were productive... Just my guess

Well, this regime tried to make Pat White into an NFL passer, figures they might also try to make Reggie Bush a feature back.

    about your suggestion on left-guard:
would not be opposed or disappointed
Leonard Davis @ 6'6 365 lbs has been described as the biggest man in the NFL.
he is essentially a power blocker & could get it done on either side of center
only negative is his age, 32 (a healthy & experienced 32 with plenty of tread left on the tires)
    there are others

He could be one hell of a threat on 3rd down. I predict lots of screens and passes out of the backfield. Notice the use of the word 'COULD'

Reggie's getting 5M first year of the 2 year deal.

    EDIT:

Bush will receive $2.5 million signing bonus and $2.5 million salary from Dolphins this yr; $4.5 million salary plus wkout bonus next.

Finally have a guy who can take the ball 60 yards for a TD at any time. And as a Miami Dolphins fan that excites me.

Wow, so his cap hit this yr is really low, less then R+R put together, we have plenty of money left to play with especially if McD got the 3 million dollar exception this season...we'd have right around 11 million or so.

    Mcd: 3 million (exception)
    Trusnick 1.25 million
    Bush: 2.5 million

And there will be waivers announced at 4pm this afternoon.

Let's be clear here. We're banking on an injury prone poor inside runner from New Orleans, a second round pick rookie, a 4th round WR on a shortened off-season, a 6th round pick TE, and a middle of the road QB who can put up numbers but hasn't really had success in the NFL. If it does work out, it's not a Super Bowl team IMO and will only set us back in the search for a QB.

Speed on offense is nice, but Reggie Bush isn't Chris Johnson or Jamaal Charles. He isn't an every down player, and can only help for a certain number of plays per game. Orton is not a bad NFL QB. He's a middle of the road NFL QB. I have no idea how someone can see signing Reggie Bush and say Super Bowl. Doesn't make sense to me.

This is what Cribbs produced last year:

    Season Team Receiving Rushing Fumbles
G GS Rec Yds Avg Lng TD Att Yds Avg Lng TD FUM Lost
    2010 Cleveland Browns 15 5 23 292 12.7 65T 1 20 66 3.3 19 0 7 0

I agree that we can probably expect similar numbers.

Not running the ball he won't. People bought the hype. His longest run last year was 23 yards and his longest catch was 20. His longest career run was 55 yards which he did once and his closest to that was 43 yards, which he has only done once.

Receiving, in his rookie year, his longest reception was 74 yards....in 2006. Since then, his longest reception is 42 yards which he did twice, both in 2008.

Bush is fast, he just hasn't been very good.
