ESPN's Adam Schefter (who wrote for Denver newspapers for years so has a ton of connections here) is reporting a "stare-down" between Denver and Miami over compensation for Orton. Who knows. Either way, I'm sure this will be done soon. Orton is a 4th with a ton of growth, come on, give us at least a 3rd.
Orton couldnt report (or bush) until august 4th once union is recertified.....but still, i want this done soon!
They should make it conditional. A 4th that becomes a 3rd if Orton takes at least half the snaps or the team makes the playoffs, and a 2nd if both conditions come to fruition. Something like that anyway.
We need to move on and get business done and move forward with Tebow. Doesn't mean we want to get ripped in the process.
Henne won more games than both your QBs combined last season with Dan Henning as his OC. Kyle Orton has his best season last year statistically and was 3-10 to show for it. we make excuses for why we go after guys who do nothing but lose like Orton and Thigpen but when we're 7-9 under henne, every damn loss is his fault. I think this is a dumb move, even for a 4th. I dont think he beats Henne, and hes not enough of a vet or a name that hed just waltz right into the starting spot
A ton of growth? No way, I don't know what they see in Orton to want to deal for him. I'd take my chances with Young. At least you won't have to give up any picks, and at least he can avoid a rush.
Just saw this from someone who was at Broncos practice this AM: "When he [Orton] emerged there was a few mild claps, when Tebow emerged there was a roar." Whoever asked me earlier about if Denver was behind Tim... The answer is absolutely yes.
I don't think its particularly fair to blame Orton for zero defense (the idiots couldn't even wrap a reciever up) and an O-line that couldn't stop a crawling baby. Orton was beaten up quite severely and still put up huge numbers. Nobody denies he's not the most mobile guy around, but let's not unfairly trash him for a crappy supporting cast. Had Tebow not been drafted, Orton would have been signed to a longterm deal. There is a ton of fan pressure up here to start Tebow, and Elway has talked about what a good ambassador for the team he is. He's already basically become the face of the team, and IMO, to not start him would stir up quite a pot of trouble up here. It's not so much a knock on Orton as it is that people love Tim. You guys are in Florida, you know how it is. It's starting to become that way here, too.
Even after going 3-10 in his starts last season, Orton is still 32-29 for W-L for his career. It was his first losing season as a QB.
Yes, a ton of growth. He's a very good pocket quarterback. If Orton stays here, I guarantee you 100% he wins the starting job. Tebow cannot top him, plain and simple.
yeah but most those other games were with the positively stellar Bears Defense of a couple years ago. Im pretty sure he was 7-1 as a rookie with that team which had nothing to do with him. I remember them winning a game where he threw less than 10 passes. That same defense got Rex Grossman to a super bowl.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Dave Hyde, Vince Young has been the Dolphins' No. 2 target at quarterback behind Kyle Orton. Young will be released by the Titans later this afternoon, which could play havoc with any leverage the Broncos may have enjoyed in trade talks. With Kevin Kolb almost certain to land in Arizona by the end of the day, Denver may be forced to accept a fourth-rounder for Orton ............ Playing hardball , nice !
He was 10-5 as a rookie, playing with the Bears. Our D is getting pretty close to stellar too. Why couldn't he be equally successful with us? Granted our D is not quite on a par with the 2005 Bears, yet anyway, but Orton is better now than he was a rookie too. With our D, we need a QB who isn't going to turn it over in our end of the field, be efficient, and not make too many mistakes. Even if we get Orton and Henne retains the starting job, we got great depth at the most important position on the team. Granted neither is a pro bowler, but Orton is about top 15 and Henne could be there too depending on how this season goes.
Good hope it is. He either needs to be improve a lot or step aside....sorry chad you had your chance time for kyle to come through and give it a go
How does that translate to growth? He's leveled off, and Denver thinks (as did Chicago) that they have another guy with a higher ceiling. But I don't mean to be persnickety with you, I know what you mean. Wish we would have drafted Tebow, I've seen him do some incredible things in college. As for Orton, well, who knows..I do think he's gotten a bad rap over the years for smart, solid QB play; I just don't want our guys to let loose any picks or players for a solid, mediocre talent. He'd end up keeping us at 8-8 for five more years...
We have plenty of skeptics here about Tebow. College often doesn't translate to professional success, and the Broncos are rolling the dice with him. Sometimes these things can be situational. Orton has really blossomed here. Quinn is rotting as 3rd string but may blossom if he finds the right situation. Here, however, he absolutely stinks.
Tampa is a nice area............... to drive by on your way to Denver. IMO Denver has everything you could want in a city excluding a beach. Tampa has old people, humidity, and fishing. I don't have a problem trading beaches I can't see (unless I'm on them) for mountains, a hip happening thriving city, and skiing.
This city is "hip" if you're into conspicuous drug consumption, heavy drinking, gang shootings, hate crime sprees, muggings by junkies and agressive panhandlers turning downtown into an eyesore. Yeah, I'll take Tampa Bay. The only good thing about Denver is the view of the Rocky Mountains. I didn't see one vagrant or panhandler in downtown Tampa. My jaw dropped.
The latest about the Broncos and Orton, from the Broncos flagship station in Denver: http://www.850koa.com/mediaplayer/
I don't see Orton coming here. And if it's because he doesn't meet what the Dolphins feel he's worth, than I'm ok with that. I think we need to do the same thing we did with Bradshaw. He didn't meet our asking price, move onto the next guy. In this case, find a viable back up should Chad Henne get hurt, struggle, etc. Camp is going to start tomorrow and at this point, I think the best option is Chad Henne.
I agree with you that if we have to give up to much for Orton then it's a no go. But we also need a qb Chad Henne is not the qb of the future. If the dolphins want to be good we got to spend and give up a little. I am fine wth us not going after bradshaw because I don't think he is that good there are better running backs out there like Reggie bush who we got. Kyle Orton is the best qb out there right now and he will make a difference on our team. We will be a playoff team with Kyle Orton under center
Interested to hear what your feelings are on them trying to move Orton. Personally, I think your mgmt. team is nuts moving a QB that is a known commodity to bet their whole season on Tebow being a finished product.
